What did we think of Tayla Harris season. I feel she maybe going to move on and play another sport or focus on her boxing career. Not to sure if she still got her heart in the footy anymore. She was a great footballer a couple of years ago. I do hope she stays on and plays in the footy though.
 
Best pure forward in the competition last year. And even with her being less effective this year, it's not like the forward-line was Carlton's main issue.

I haven't seen or heard anything that suggests Harris is going to give up football. But if she does, in order to pursue boxing, then she's already copped too many knocks to the head.

Ok cool like to see tayla stay on and play footy i do think shes also doing a course to not too sure it maybe at la trobe or rmit uni.

Alot of the girls playing are undertaking study.
 
wasnt aware that tayla is 24 feels like a bot older but did start playing footy since 18 so shes been around a while but still young
 
I like tayla huge fan of her her tatts are a bit of turn off though but a great ambassador of sport

A pay stoush between Tayla Harris and Carlton could lead to the AFLW pin-up player looking for a new club.
Harris is asking for about $150,000 to play in the 2022 season, which would make her one of the highest-paid players in the sport.

She is a Tier 2 player which means she is paid about $25,000 to play football and the remainder would come from marketing and employment roles at the club.

Harris, 24, was believed to have earned about $80,000 this year, and the Blues are baulking at her new asking price.

Separately, the Blues are also privately questioning her dedication to football and whether she is a good fit for the team.

Coming off her worst season as a player — she finished outside the top 15 in the club best-and-fairest — the Blues were disappointed with her standards in preparation and commitment.

At one session during the past season, Harris walked off the training track — without telling any of her coaches — to post on her Instagram page.

That act drew the ire of her teammates.

She did not play the next game. The club listed her as “managed’’.

She was also late to several training sessions and arrived at the start of pre-season unfit.

Harris’ manager Alex Saundry rejected the suggestion Harris was unprofessional in 2021 and said her star client wanted to stay at Carlton.

“She absolutely wants to be at Carlton, she remains 100 per cent committed to Carlton and I’m prepared for pretty robust dialogue between myself and the club over the next two to three weeks,” Saundry said.

“We have started negotiations.’’

She added: “I think she’s worth a significant amount. The commitment to Carlton and what she’s done over the past two years for the game locally, nationally and internationally carries a lot of weight.

“Has she carried that weight (this year)? No. Does she rely on her team around her? Yes, to help her through that.

“I think she’s worth a hell of a lot, she’s worth over six figures to the game, absolutely.’’

It is an intriguing situation developing.

The charismatic and highly recognisable Harris wants to be paid for use of her image and IP.

While the Blues want her to play good football first and be committed to the program and team ethos.

The commentary around Harris is out of Carlton’s control.

During Sunday’s telecast of the Carlton v Essendon game, the Channel 7 cameras zoomed in on Harris in the grandstand.

There is AFLW superstar, said commentator Luke Darcy.

If you didn’t watch AFLW games and only listened to and watched the marketing of pin-up girl Harris, you’d think she was the best player in the women’s game.

She’s far from it, at least after the 2021 season.

She averaged one contested mark a game and six disposals. She kicked four goals for the season. And, again, finished outside the top 15 in the best and fairest in a team which didn’t play finals.

Saundry conceded COVID lockdown last year affected Harris’ mentality and affected her preparation because she couldn’t box, nor could she fulfil her marketing and appearance commitments.

“She didn’t come in at the level of fitness she normally comes in on,” Saundry said.

“Therefore, she was unable to live up to her standards.

“She self reflects, she knows she didn’t have a great year. She’s not naive to that at all and neither is Carlton. We’re keen to move past it and put it behind us really

“She’s a three-time leading goalkicker and four-time All Australian player and when she’s leading the goalkicking and when she’s All Australian they make finals.’’

Harris, who has a statue at Federation Square, is also part of a documentary being filmed about her career this year.

The blonde key forward was made famous by The Kick photograph.

Saundry said Harris could manage her extensive marketing world and football, but COVID hurt her ahead of the 2021 season.

“Tayla is better when she has multiple things on and has a very structured week and during COVID she didn’t have that,’’ she said.

“So, when you’re going from photo shoots, media appearances and jam-packed weeks to nothing and being restricted to staying indoors, it absolutely has an impact on your purpose in what you do.

“In terms of the football season, I don’t think she struggles to prioritise.

“It definitely had an impact on her mental state when you’re not performing as you want to and the way everyone expects them to perform.

“But if anyone with that calibre of attention, she’s the one who creates click bait, she’s got the image, she’s the biggest player in the game, so if she’s had an off game she’s a target straight away.

“You’d agree she’s the biggest name in the game and she can’t be adequately compensated financially for what she does in terms of use of image for that club, and she’s requested at every sponsorship event …. and they can’t adequately pay her.

“If you discount this season, she’s had some really cracking seasons.’’

Carlton chief executive Cain Liddle was contacted for comment.

Problem with Tayla demanding 150k is that it will create headaches for any club thinking about doing a trade with Carlton.

For example, if she went to North, then Garner and Kearney would rightfully demand a bigger pay day, pointing to both on field performance and positive media generated for the club.

Do clubs want to open that can of worms for someone who had a very poor 2021?
 
I've watched a bit of AFLW. I've seen Harris and didn't think she was a standout at all. Correct me if I'm wrong but it's almost like she's best known for being trolled and that somehow earned her a bronze statue?

However I could see one young star at our club earning that sort of coin in the future..
 
Is this the one who left training early to do an Instagram post?

If so, then that says it all about her.

Not even Mark Robinson stooped so low to erroneously suggest she is "demanding" anything.

And unless you know what the top players at other clubs are currently being paid as well as what's motivating their decisions, there's no way you can extrapolate the implications of such a move.

The only thing that can be said with any degree of confidence is that Harris will end up at Collingwood if it purely comes down to a matter of the highest bidder.

Team-mates and coaches don't like her, her statue contributed more than she did this season..

Might be lucky to get a contract anywhere.

Common-sense says that if a player like Tayla gets around 150k, the player agents (including Alex Saundry who manages Tayla) will get into the ear of their players and go "Tayla's not that good and got 150k. You're a way better player and should get more".

The only thing that can be said with any degree of confidence is that Harris will end up at Collingwood if it purely comes down to a matter of the highest bidder.

I feel (gut instinct, so don't jump and down like always Teen Wolf) that Collingwood would be weary of signing Tayla and the media circus that comes with her, after their experience with Mo in the first 2 seasons.

Yeah, agents trying to get the best deal for their players is not a new thing. But the end result has nothing to do with what other players get, and everything to do with what clubs are willing to offer.

And I repeat: you clearly don't know if better players are already being paid more, nor if money is the only factor in their decision-making.
 
Tayla to me comes across as a nice player off field but i do feel its all about her all the time. Her looks are the selling point and thats it. It would not surprise me that her team mates dont get on well with her due to this and its a case of her attitudes get in the way of her playing proper footy. I would how ever still love her at Collingwood though but she maybe asking for too much $. Its not like shes set the world on fire either.
I would not be surprised if she pulls out of the footy and focuses on something else.

The CBA lists the TPP as $717,122. You're also allowed a 3rd tier 1 player, but need to adjust the lower tiers so as to not exceed the TPP.

There's also an additional services agreement, which is minimum of $50,000 and a maximum of $100,000 across each team. There's an additional appearances fee, which is an hourly rate and I don't think counts toward the above stuff, but I could be wrong on that. There's also some players that have been employed by their clubs in a different capacity, which I don't believe is considered part of the CBA.

She is quite comfortably the best pack mark in the competition in my view. She also has a pretty exceptional kicking technique (though she shanks it often)

They all deserve a raise in general sooner rather than later. But shes not worth 100K on preformance.
