The whole problem with a Geelong trade is that a/. we lose one of the best medium rebound defenders in the game for some unknown quantity at 15 in a weak draft and b/. we give Geelong one of the best medium rebound defenders in the game.

The loss is compounded on both sides of the ledger. A significant loss for us, a significant gain for Geelong and an unknown quantity at pick 15.
I understand where you are coming from but I'm not too sure the club is thinking on the same wavelength as you are. Although, if they are, it will make things very interesting.

If Heath is going to Geelong, then we will be years away from a premiership, because our opposition will be so much better equipped than us to compete for the big prize. With Thomas going to Carlton and Shaw to Geelong, and us getting draft picks in return, then we are going nowhere over the next few years.

If Heath wants to go to Geelong, then he can stay at our club and play in the VFL if necessary for the next 2 years. If we let him go to the Cats, even pick 15 from Geelong is no guarantee of a quality player in the long term, and in the short term we will be severely weakened. When our young guys become competitive, GWS and GC will be ready to dominate the competition.

Collingwood should tell him that he has a choice between GWS or the VFL. Or he can pull his head in and start playing decent footy without his on field outbursts. What is the point of us giving our best players away to clubs who are very much in premiership contention?

Here is my full of s-it ridiculous idea to match everyone else on here, maybe cats chuck in billie smedts with pick 15 to get the job done. We pass on pick 15 and 27 to gws for adams and a pick but i dont no what pick cos i don't think they would chuck in pick 20 lol Just better to wait a few days than post crap like this.

Wow, the Cats fans really don't rate Heath Shaw do they?

I've spoken to a few tonight (via different formats) and they really don't see pick 15 as a fair deal, so their board on here is actually quite accurate, as far as their fans go anyway.

Surely pick 15 isn't that good though, and we aren't going to agree to trade Heath to a top four team unless the give us something of real worth.
They are a little naïve.

The fact that Geelong have a 4yr offer on the table and have had Joel Selwood take Shaw out for a beer and a chat, is proof they are very, very serious in their pursuit of him, irrespective of what their fans think.

Obviously best case scenario is shaw to GWS and adams to us, but if shaw wants to go to geelong ( which he is within his rights, afterall he is contracted and we are the ones ending it ) then we should ask for pick 15 and giv that for adams. Keep our picks 10 and 11.

If GWS play hardball with us we can give them our second rounder for their early third rounder.

Problem is GWS wants players not picks, but they wont want to lose adams for nothing

Do Macafffer or Williams ring a bell?
So what...
Williams isnt really a tagger.
If one is having a hard time with the tag they can switch. Macaffer can be pushed forward, Hunt can be pushed into defence, or if needed both can do it.
Not against Varcoe thrown in, ideally id like Smedts, Schroder, GHS etc but that aint happening.

We won't be able to get their 1st round pick and one of their decent young players for our 28yo problem child half back flanker. It just won't happen. If we can get pick 15, I'd say we will take it. I'd try and use it for Adams and keep 10 & 11. In which case it make it a swap of Shaw for Adams. The fact that he has gone to Geelong is something we will just have to suck up. The argument about us being weakened is irrelevant imo. He is leaving regardless of where he goes. He won't be at Collingwood. That may weaken us slightly, however the club is of the view that it will be beneficial in the long run. Time will tell. Being a "mutual decision", I imagine we'll work with Heath to get him where he wants to go.

They romanced Boak last year, but who cares what Geelong supporters or their club thinks really?

It's 4-6 years at GWS or a 2 year phase out with us. He's given us a caravan of grief over the years so I don't really think we should be feeling a sense of guilt about this. Shaw has put himself and us in this position.

What other player in the league has this history of car crashing, lying about it, punching nuts and two costly brain farts in a prelim and stayed in a team? Then there is the disruptive stuff behind the scenes. We've been pretty patient.

Heath can argue for his preferred location, that's fine, but we have every right to look after the welfare of the club. To me that is presenting as TGG says a choice of GWS or Collingwood.

I think GWS will be pretty much unbeatable in 3-4 years whereas Geelong will bottom out over that time significantly
U realise they lost the prelim by a goal to the eventual premier and their reserves side is stack full of talent. They have lost no one really, pods, corey were on their last legs, chapman hardly played this year.

I can't see a deal being done, I would be shocked if he was a Geelong player next season. Geelong would be stupid to give pick 15 to us and their 2nd round pick won't get it done. Varcoe is a dud and Smedts do not want.

For 5 years and he will also have a development role waiting for him when he retires, which he wants to do when he eventually retires. Such a generous deal, cant believe he has to think about it when he is turning 28.

I can't see Geelong winning it in the next few years. They have been an amazing team however they will drop away quickly... Maybe not in 2014 but I would be shocked if they even make the finals in 2015. Look how quickly Brisbane dropped away after 2004 and they had superstars like Brown, Black etc.

Hate to break if to you but we're not going away any time soon - Pods was labouring at the end and a fit Hawk plus Kersten will cover him, Corey will be a loss but GHS of Caddy will step up, Hunt has been overtaken by Guthrie who reminds me of Pendlebury at times, and Chappy barely played..

Fascinating to see how the whole Adams/Shaw thing plays out, either way I think both clubs will be thereabouts over the next few years, Grundy will be a gun and your raft of first round picks over the last few years will hold you in good stead.

Was aghast at Shaw coming at first but he would add something to our defence. Adams looks like a beauty though you appear to have the front running. Can't help but thinking there are bigger things afoot on both fronts, maybe you guys angling for the number one pick, or Balme/Wells cooking up something from left field.

Interesting theory, particularly as Chris Scott pointed to 2011 and 2015 as their best chance of winning a flag. Our whole list management has been geared to be up there in 2015, obviously no gaurantees but..
