So to answer your question regarding if we can draft him this year, I think we can add him to the ‘Primary list’ at the end of this season as he is already 17 years old and a current scholarship holder. IIRC under rule 4 any AFL club is only allowed to draft one 17 year old per year and since he is will not turn 18 until 2008 we must use him as our 17 year old.

We will not be able to rookie list him as he doesn’t meet the requirements for rule 5 (He has to be 18 (and under 23) before December 31 in the year he is drafted) so we cannot rookie list him until 2009.

.

Think that was an old ruling Mick now defunct ....whatever the age requirement is to participate in the National draft will also apply in this case.

I'm not sure what that ruling is but I know the one 17 year old per club thing is dead and buried ;)

Trying a new approach now are we? ;)

LOL I've noticed that too.

Gone from 'every player is James Hird, Michael Voss' to an extremely negative mindset.

FD88, find a happy medium :thumbsu: :D

It's all in how you interpret my posts. It may appear that I mean what you've suggested but it's more "X kid could learn from X star's game because he has similar traits". And I'm telling you this as the one who writes the stuff in the first place.

Yeh I know.

You're just very easy to pick on. This boards whipping boy :p

If he can keep it up all year, chances are if he wasn't our scholarship kid we (and other) clubs fans would be bandying around his name on their draft wish list though.

In a draft that is supposedly not as good as the last few if he keeps up similar form would be a monty for a first round selection.

Also it looks like all the blokes we discussed as possible omissions are going to get another gig because we've gone from having a ton of players set to resume to zero in the space of nine seconds. I feel like walking into the AFC clubrooms and screaming "FFS HEAL!!!" at Roo. :p

Just placing your hands on him should do the trick. ;)

Don't you have to be 17 and a half by draft date?

According to Wikipedia, players must have turned 17 before April 30th in the year of their drafting. Would have cited a reference on AFL.com.au, but they've removed any specifically useful information when they downgraded the site at the beginning of the year.

Given that it has frequently been stated that he's already 17, and April 30th was 17 days ago, I'd say he's probably going to be eligible at the end of this year.

However, I can't locate his DOB anywhere, so maybe someone else can fill in the gap.

Lets not get too ahead of ourselves, for our sake and the kids. I like the idea of using the last pick in the draft. The David Rodan pick as it will be now known as.

An interesting prospect but one you wouldnt want to use a top 20 pick on.

I don't know if this has already been established but according to this http://www.aflnswact.com.au/_content/document/00051200-src.pdf
he has grown a few cm to be 188cm from 186. Lets hope he can crack the 190 mark. I think that article would prob be from the start of this year and hes still only 17.

Edit: his DOB is 25/4/90....someone should be able to find out hes officially eligible for this years draft from that.

Apparently he is already 190 cm I heard someone else say, that 186cm mark is old.

Looks like he is eligible this year by 5 days...awesome :D

I'm with the "I bet he has a massive season, only for the AFL to somehow screw us over, leading to a bottom Victorian club picking him up instead" crew.

Still, it'll be very very nice if we do happen to get him. Looks like a good kid. With this lad, Sellar and Tippett all on the list, we've got a very strong chance of finally developing at least one gun forward. Our future forward line is looking pretty good!

Looking top heavy.

Sellar is supposed to be very quick. I havent read anything bout Walker being quick. Need to draft an excellent forward line crumber to top off the dominant forward line of the next 10 years.

Meh. With the marking power of Tippett, Sellar and especially the Texas Ranger the will be no crumbs because they mark everything coming their way :D :p
