List Mgmt. Taylor Hunt delisted

One of the great questions. Along with how do we define the best players. Everyone does it differently. If a large portion of people rank a player a lot higher than I do, I regard him as overrated.
Thats fair , and it then gets back to what type of play you like to see in a player. With some dare I say it be fairly unanimous , others on here create debate when a player can exhibit so much to like and dislike.
Is it better to be hard working or better to have tricks...pure of foot or athletic talent ..... and on it goes.

Yep. Every time I go into a best player thread there are heaps of people arguing purely because they have different definitions of what a best player is. If they actually agreed on a definition at the start of the thread then you would probably find a lot more agreement.

How can THREE clubs be clamouring all over THunt yet we couldn't get anything during trade week for him, not even a pic upgrade?

They knew that they could get him for free as a delisted free agent. We could have prevented that by offering him a contract that he would be likely to reject and forced a trade.

Well it may have or it may have just seen him do what Newton is doing. We just have to accpet in this age of FA , trades have been devalued.

All of this is academic now.

You're right, he still could have gone to the draft, but he would have still have retained some value trade wise. As DFA he has zero trade value since he walk to the club of his choice, but if he can goes into the draft he could end up anywhere, we use that as leverage to organize at trade. If we have no intention of keeping him on our list anything we can get is a bonus, similar to Sydney's trading Biggs to the Bulldogs with pick 39 for pick 37. When Balme told the public that we weren't going to offer Hunt a contract, he lost all trade value.

What we can get depends on the amount of list spots that the team that we are trading with has, or if they are going to make further trades with late picks.

I'll use Richmond as an example
They have delisted 5 senior players and didn't promote a rookie meaning that they are going to use pick 12,33,52,70,88
Clearly they are going to bring in a DFA instead of using pick 88, but at the time they probably didn't know which one they were going to target, but I assume that they had a list of players that wanted and that Hunt was on it.

For example if we went to Richmond and offered them Hunt and pick 60 for pick 52 a trade might have occurred, had we offered 55 instead of 60, I have no doubt a trade would have occurred.

The reason why we didn't attempt this is because it would be a lot of work for our list manager with only a small gain.

Seems bizarre all the interest from rival clubs when no one wanted to complete a deal with us for him

Pretty much as expected I would have thought, especially after Balme said that Hunt didn't have a place on the list reasonably early during the trade period. Why trade for someone when you know you can get him for free a few weeks later? It would be like us having traded for Blease.

I guess Balme's comments may have cost a late pick or a small pick upgrade, but I'm pretty sure Hunt was shopped around from the start of the trade period with no takers anyway. Really, it just shows where Hunt's value is at the moment - a few clubs are happy to give him a chance if it costs them nothing, but unwilling to pay anything for him.

I wish him good luck, in firstly being picked up by a club he actually wants to b at and secondly with his career. Having suffered groin injuries I totally sympathise with Taylor, it certainly was nasty & gave me a taste of what it'll b like to grow old.

And for the record, I believe that the Lions would have done much better with him than they will if they get Robinson but maybe he didn't want to come north anyway *shrugs*

I agree with the Cat Wrangler (and 10lana above)- once word of his potential delisting was out, he lost all trading value. Of course, had Geelong not delisted him, other clubs would've just shrugged and looked elsewhere to pick up their DFAs.

Not really, since Hunt was out of contract it actually makes more sense for other clubs to see if they can get him where they don't really have to give up anything for him. Either in the FA periods or the PSD. It also means the clubs that want him can offer him a smaller contract initially, which helps their cap. This is pretty common practice in the AFL. If Hunt was considered a high value player maybe a deal would've been done in the trade period (like Bumdy), but he isn't.

Hunt will be a Tiger

His manager, Anthony McConville, said the delisted free agent will line-up for the Tigers next season after 63 games in five years with the Cats.
"(I) can confirm that Taylor Hunt has agreed to sign with Richmond in 2015 with paperwork to be lodged with the AFL over the weekend," McConville told AFL.com.au.

Sorry to intrude guys, but that is not correct. We will be promoting Anthony Miles to the senior list with 88, meaning pick 70 is forfeit for Hunt.

Hunt was on our trade target list last year and you guys wanted more than we thought he would be worth. This year with him being displaced from your side, we thought he would have been a very good chance to get delisted so focused on other targets.

I like Hunt as a player. Not flashy but gets the job done. Perfect replacement for Jackson in my eyes.

That doesn't change anything since in the proposed scenario, Richmond would still be using there third pick at the draft.

Richmond
in pick 55 or 60, Hunt
Out pick 52

At the national draft
12,31,55,70(rookie promotion)

Cats fans do you rate Taylor Hunt?

I'm looking ahead to Round 1 matchups with Tigers and wondering if should include Hunt in Tigers squad to face Blues

I had him in our best 22 just 2 seasons ago, easily. Injuries and diminished confidence kept him out of our team most of this year. When fit and confident, will be an asset. Many of us are disappointed he was not wanted at Geelong, but they seem to know what they're doing. Will watch his career with interest.

as Vdubs has said, some here wanted him to stay and as for the Tigers, I'd suspect that if he is over the groin issue that plagued him this season then he should be automatic selection in Richmond's starting 18.

Yep, there's certainly a spot for him, injury permitting. We've been playing Grigg as a defensive mid ffs so Hunt should slot right in. Reckon he'll be lining up on Murphy rd 1.
