If THunt ends up not being a decent tagger and plays off the wing - I do not care as long as he plays well.

Look if he and Duncan can for a decent wing combination - great. He does have pace and reasonable experience at senior level - and an AFL ready body. No reason he could not play that role - if his form is good enough.

I think as the transition really takes hold this season there will be more opportunities for kids and less for those who do not perform. So THunt and Varcoe will be given opportunities but they will not keep their spots unless they perform. Otherwise the transition process will be slowed and I am sure GFC have an eye on 2015. No good can come from holding out youth playing well in the twos for older players not really performing.

There's quiet alot of players in the geelong team that can play of a wing.Thunt and duncan wingers duncan can use the ball quiet well maybe even halfback for him.But there's mots varcore murder even mackie yes play well of a wing.Thunt could even go into the backsix I really hope he has a really good year next season go tails hunt.

Yeah at least THunt could fulfil a few roles potentially. Could be a tagger, play on the wing or across the HB line. So he has some versatility but the he first has to regain some good form before these positions can be looked at.

We dont have a tagger. Can Hunt be a good one? Who knows. He did well at it early in the season til his injury.

Prefer a better , tougher player. Ling had less speed but he was strong overhead , and mentally a strong leader. Is Hunt a player like that? Guthrie far closer to it.

Yeah I think that everything has changed.

Slot Hunt into the back half. He'll provide great run, and he LOVES to tackle, bump, harass.

Send Guthrie into the guts.

Guthrie was amazing in defense, do you let him stay there and possible become the next Enright, or risk moving him to midfield and possible having him not reach his potential?

The times I've seen Hunt down back he's looked terribly lost.

Yep, the times he has been down there he's coughed up easy goals with poor awareness and decision making.

Not sure he's ever going to have the aerial ability, poise and foot skills to consistently hit up targets and turn defence into attack like Enright and the ever improving Guthrie.

If Guthrie moves into the middle I'm more inclined to think Thurlow and possibly Bews are better equipped to take on a small back role.

Hunt for mine seems destined to play a negating/run with role with the ability to pinch-hit on transition.

Maybe Hunt, who has shown he can kick a goal or two, would be better served as a defensive HFF?
Yuup I like your thinking he along with others in the team can play quiet a lot of different roles.T hunt could easy stand someone like birchall etc.

I'll be amazed if Guthrie doesn't play through the midfield a little more this season. Thurlow will get his chance in the back six to fill the hole….that kid has got some talent., no doubt about that.

and Hunt ?
Injuries to young players like Hunt can really set their career back, his at the very least has stalled and as you rightly mentioned earlier in the thread we have a lot of talent on the rise,Taylor now is just one of that group and not the most talented among them, his spots up for grabs.

Very fair point to say that Poodle has stalled thru 2013.
He should be over the AC joint and by the time the season starts would have done enough contact work to have confidence back in his body and his play.
There is plenty of competition for spots and he has come back to the pack but I reckon that he will be able to make a spot his own again. He's done it before and should again. And I'd still like to see him as a negating run with..

Go Catters

I think that's his best chance even though I believe opposition coaches have worked him out. And if the club decides to go with one specialist tagger and they may not as we rebuild our structures and blood new players.

I agree.
But I think he can do the job. I wouldn't mind seeing it trialled in the NAB cup / VFL

I agree, Thurlow is going to be something.

THunt took a modest hip and shoulder on wing half back during the VFL Gand final (late first or in the second quarter I think). He stayed hunched over on the boundary line for quite a while. It was the opposite side to the benches.

Looked like he was still being troubled by his shoulder / collar bone. If his hurt was due to his earlier injury it could explain his poor form at the end of the year. lack of confidence.

Hopefully he is fully set and ready to go now. Can play.

Haven't gone back to look at the team. But from memory you had experienced players on the bench. And it just makes the team look weak.

I didn't really have an issue with the 22, just the way they were lined up looked strange.
