I love lists and particularly those where people rank their favourite songs.

What are your top 5 (from her catalog)?

For me

1) Welcome To New York.
It is undisputed number 1 for me. I love this song. It makes me feel alive. It makes me move, and always puts a smile on my face. By far my favourite track of hers. Love everything about it. The vibe of it is great.

2) Red
God damn is this a catchy track. First time I heard it I loved it from the get go. Hearing the band came in and being enveloped by all the instruments is great. Love singing it at the top of my lungs. Re-e-e-e-e-ed

3) State of Grace
Really hits you from the get go. Absolutely smashes the vocal on this out of the park. Tremendous vocal.

4) Invisible String
Excellent song writing. My favourite line is Cold was the steel of my axe to grind. But to be honest, the whole song is bloody great.

5) The Last Great American Dynasty
I love everything about it. The piano, the subtle acoustic guitar, the gentle vocal backed by the airy piano. The story behind it is pretty neat too.

Karma, Anti-Hero, Style, All Too Well, I Forgot That You Existed, The 1, and Style are all are pretty high too.

Tough, tough one. The list of honourable mentions would be long but let's see...

1) Style - this exemplifies what 1989 is about in terms of lyrics, production, hook, bridge etc - I never get sick of this song whenever it comes on, never fail to groove to it or belt out the chorus - I think Max Martin produced this and Blank Space, and it shows

2) All Too Well - almost blasphemous that this isn't #1, I don't really need to explain it but it's her magnum opus in terms of songwriting, story-telling and singing about a feeling that many of us have had at some point in our lives - both the 5 minute and 10 minute versions still make me feel things

3) Lover - this is the companion piece to All Too Well - I think it was nominated for a Grammy Song of the Year for good reason - the bridge vow is her best work and the dreamy nature of the music helps you buy into the flourishing of love, it makes me feel gooey throughout

4) Anti-Hero - maybe recency bias but it has inspired my new life motto (you know the line) and is a seriously good bop - the standout from her latest album which, honestly, is not in my top 5 from her discography. Yet another strong story-telling and writing effort (yes, even the sexy baby line).

5) The entire folklore album - this is too hard to pick one stand out, I was gobsmacked by its release like no other new album has ever inspired in me before or since - I will argue with anyone who says this did not deserve Album of the Year, it's a masterpiece of sonically cohesive writing and production telling great stories (that cardigan, august and betty trio - just oof) that got us through a time of enforced isolation and reflection. I think this album won her a lot of new fans as it proved she could change genre and write stories through song with the best of them. It opens strongly (the 1), ends strongly (the lakes) with only a couple of more mediocre songs, the rest are all bangers (the ones you and I mentioned along with my tears ricochet, illicit affairs, peace, seven and mirrorball I rank really highly)

There is something about Style that pumps me up. Comes out swinging and doesn't really stop. Has a lot of oomph and sass about it

Lover is great, very dreamy. One of those songs that just float on by and leave you dreaming. It's a fabulous song.

You've cheated with number 5 though :p. What is your favourite track from that album?

Would love to hear your HMs too.

It's a shame you don't like Springsteen. Would love to hear your take on some of his tracks!

If I had to pick one from folklore, probably august. That album as a whole is on another level to the rest of her albums though imo.

Honourable mentions (off the top of my head): Love Story, Fearless, Back to December, Mean, Enchanted, I Knew You Were Trouble, State of Grace, Blank Space, Wildest Dreams, New Romantics, Delicate, Cruel Summer, Cornelia Street, Daylight, ivy, cowboy like me, Lavender Haze, Karma.

Firstly thanks for the tag Cruyff14 . Im actually starting to feel emotional thinking about my list. I look forward to seeing what everyone posts.

If I may, Id like to provide two distinct lists.

Pump me up, come at me, want a piece of me?

1) Red

The clever use of colours juxtaposed with emotions really hits the feels.
"Loving him was like driving in a new Mazaratti down a dead end street". Ouch
Im listening to it now. Like when Richmond need something to overcome the AFLs rules and umpires, put Dusty in the goal square and clear out. Red is the nuclear bomb that ends everything. I will fight anyone who disagrees.

2) Style
That intro. diew-diew-diew, diew-diew, diew, diew-diew diew. Attitude, power. I picture myself lying in bed late night, dimmed table lamp at the bed head....intro starts, Im taking it in with the late night silence simultaneously.

3) The Story of Us.
The guitar riffs, sheer LOUDNESS of everything just makes you stand up and accept the slap that's coming. I imagine millions worldwide picked up their invisible drum sticks and bashed away. Next chapter!

4) State of Grace
The opening act of the Red Tour. The moment when the curtain dropped revealing TS was the loudest wall of noise I had ever heard. Until Kane Lamberts opening goal of the 2017 Prelim Final.

5) 22
A look into Taylor as one of us, a person, who just wanted to keep dancing like we're twenty-two.

Honourable mention: Mine

Time to wind down, grab a loved one or pillow, and let it all out.....

1) All too well

Arguably the most emotional sing in the history of music. I mean how can you not? A tale of heartache that everyone in the world can relate to. Words cannot describe its power. Was a piano project for moi during the harsh covid lock downs.
And maybe we got lost in translation, maybe I asked for too much, but maybe this thing was a masterpiece 'til you tore it all up

2) Enchanted
A song that inspired a fragrance. Applies the subtle tone and volume the beginning, then hits 10 when the chorus hits. A roller coaster of emotions. A covid piano project.
This is me praying that
This was the very first page
Not where the story line ends
My thoughts will echo your name, until I see you again
These are the words I held back, as I was leaving too soon
I was enchanted to meet you

3) Back to December
I have this at 3 because quite simply nothing knocks off ATW and E from their spots. Nothing.
But when you need to dial it down to 0-1 at nights end, this is the one. All the time.....
Another covid piano project

4) Fifteen
Takes you back to 15. School, friends, emotions, hormones. Every day was like a movie, comedy, drama, romance.
Opens with sound advice - take a deep breath, and you walk through the doors, it's the morning of your very first day

5) Today was a Fairytale
I don't feel this gets mentioned a lot. Probably because it featured in the 2010 rom-com Valentines Day, where Taylor made her acting debut at the tender age of 21.
Can you feel this magic in the air?

Listened to Evermore earlier this morning. Peace is a great track, I forgot about that.

Got Lover on now. The opening three tracks fantastic. Paper Rings is a lot of fun, really enjoy London Boy too. You Need To Calm Down is another cracker with a ton of sass. Great track.

Hardly a weak song on it - maybe Me if I had to pick one.

A lot of solid to great individual tracks but not really a cohesive album, if you get what I mean.

Thanks for contributing Pete!

But what about an overall list?

A lot of solid to great individual tracks but not really a cohesive album, if you get what I mean.
As in, it doesn't really flow thematically?

As in, it doesn't really flow thematically?

Yep, it is largely a collection of varieties of pop songs with no consistency in theme or production.

It is for this reason Lover (and Red) rank below many of her other albums. I am aware it is simply my opinion.

I am sure you guys will enjoy reading this if you haven't already.
