Too hard. Let's just rank the opening songs.

  1. Fearless
  2. State of Grace
  3. Welcome to New York
  4. the one
  5. Ready for It?
  6. Mine
  7. willow
  8. Lavender Haze
  9. I Forgot That You Existed
  10. Tim McGraw

Barely a gap between them all though. But the first five are so good and set the tone for what's to come really well.
No. Give me your top 10 DAMN IT.

:D

1. State of Grace - biased in that ill never forget this performance during the red concert, which coinicdentally was the opening song.
2. Welcome to NY
3. Lavender Haze
4. Ready for it - perfect opening to the album, a real get up and go song. Fires you up like eye of the tiger
5. Mine - a fave song of mine, but compared to 1-4, doesnt have the same punch.
6. Fearless
The rest.

1. You're Losing Me
2. cardigan
3. august
4. All Too Well 10 minute version
5. I Can See You
6. New Romantics
7. Ready For It
8. the one
9. The Archer
10. Mastermind
august, All Too Well absolute top tier. New Romantics is underrated I reckon. Gets forgotten about on 1989 I reckon.

the one is also in my top 10. Archer is OK for me but not great.

I don't like Ready For It, cardigan is alright.

U know, personally i think this album just does it for me. From 1-14 I can listen to and enjoy and immerse myself.

One of the things I don't like about mega-ultra-super-star Taylor is the endless variations of effectively the same song or album or locking it behind exclusive and/or digital versions.

I didn't buy the Midnights CD for this reason when I bought one of every CD beforehand.

Really sorry for spamming the thread guys.

We've done our top 5 - but what are your top 10?

Mine would be

Welcome To New York
Last Great American Dynasty
Red
State Of Grace
Invisible String
The One
Style
Mine
Cruel Summer
Karma

WTNY is outright 1. 2 through 5 can interchange, but they're all so close. To be honest, Style through Karma are probably interchangable too.

Bad Blood, 22, All Too Well all bloody close.

After the last week, she is now someone who I consider among my favourite artists, undoubtedly. I've really loved diving back into her catalogue to (re)discover her music. I'm going to be visiting this thread a lot for quite a while I'd imagine.
I love all of those songs but I’ve listened to some of them way too many times! Cannot believe All Too Well didn’t make the list. I skip Bad Blood 🙊

I've never appreciated it properly. I do really like it though.

I will say it definitely is her best song though.

you just buy 1 version (with whatever cover variant you prefer), and download the bonus tracks. unless you're a hardcore completest who must have 1 of everything, and a drained bank account.

Red (2012)

Onwards to the 2012 album that I’m fairy sure begun Taylor’s path to pop music force. With Red I was only familiar with a few of the singles and All To Well and whilst in 2012 I wasn’t huge on We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together or I Knew You Were Trouble they have certainly grown on me over the last 10 plus year.

The album begins with State Of Grace which is a pleasant enough opening song but wasn’t one that has stuck with me yet, saying that though I can definitely see the potential for it to grow on me quite a bit. Red was one I thought I remembered from a little over a decade ago and whilst I can hum the chorus I didn’t actually know many of the words, but I really liked it, it has the lovely pop-country vibe to it. Treacherous was a very pleasant surprise and one I can see myself returning to again and I Knew You Were Trouble is excellent, I guess in 2012 I just wasn’t ready to fully appreciate Taylor. A few years ago I discovered All To Well and from the moment I heard it I loved, such a brilliant, brilliant song. Whenever I hear the song name 22 my mind immediately jumps to the song Lily Allen released in 2009, probably because I was around 22 then. Back on topic though and although it’s got the same name Taylor’s 22 is nothing like Lily Allen’s and that’s not a bad thing, the chorus is just so infectious and sing along. I’m guessing it went off on her tour!

Whilst I Almost Do doesn’t hit the highs of the songs that proceed it on the album it is a nice reminder of Taylor’s country type sound. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together was another I wasn’t to keen on at the time, well actually I liked it when it first came out but quickly went off it Now though? I’m firmly back on board. Not Taylor’s best, but a far cry from her worst. Another great song to sing along to and I was a little surprised at how much if this I could sing along too! Stay, Stay, Stay was pleasant enough though it did sound like it would’ve been something that fit on her earlier albums. After that from The Last Time through to Everything Has Changed the album falls into a bit of a lull for me. Things picked up again with Starlight and Begin Again but for me it hasn’t quite captured the great highs of the first half of the album.

The bonus tracks The Moment I Knew, Come Back… Be Here and Girl At Home were all ok but again sadly failed to recapture the first half’s highs of the album. Summing up I think that’s really how I see Red, an album of two halves. The first half had it up there as her best album so far, but the second half brought it back below number one for me.

Starlight

I like State of Grace because the opening beat sounds like it was lifted from a Sonic the Hedgehog stage :p

and Starlight is lowkey my favourite song of hers (outside of the more popular hits that is).

How are people finding my style of writing/reviewing so far. I know it's not perfect but I hope you're all enjoying them. :)

Love it. Think most (if not all) the regular contributors in this thread enjoy discussing various favourites especially someone encountering them for the first time in depth.

With regards to Red, I often skip Bad Blood now. It's just so puerile and unnecessarily spiteful to me now.

Treacherous is very good. I love Holy Ground and Starlight too.

State of Grace and Red are my favourites from this album. State of Grace definitely worth giving some more listens to!

State of Grace is brilliant, love it!

Yeah, Starlight is great.

The fact you're doing them is enough. Keep it up.

And you call yourself a fan.

Starlight is just a great vibe and production and writing all around and a nice tribute to Ethel Kennedy. I often use it, The Lucky One and most of folkore and evermore as a counter example of 'she only sings about men hurr durr'

And you call yourself a fan.

I am sure there are some songs from the Boss you'd be fine not hearing again

Thank you for your excellent review. As many here and in the non forum virtual world who know me know Red is either my fave or close second fave. Like speak now I can listen to every song from go to woh.

I have such fond memories of state of grace. I recently stumbled across a recording I took from the red concert. It was the opening. Intro music blared…stage went red. Curtain lit. The drums started. Then rhythm guitar…. [emoji450] now lead…. Then the lovely beautiful Taylor silhouette appeared on the curtain. Then “AND ILL NEVERRRRR….” The curtains folded and disappeared and there she was. Hot black shorts, white shirt and the famous black hat.

State of Grace evokes so many memories in a very very special 2013. Burnt into my memory.

Great I’m tearing up now.
