And the Crows don't move their players, Matty Clarke changed clubs due to lack of opportunity in 05, Jericho moved this year, I think both Matty Smith and Aiden Parker changed clubs at some stage whilst on our lists. I think there might be another 1 or 2 recently, just can't remember.

Jericho's move was a Norwood initiated thing, Norwood paid the transfer fees for him to change clubs. It wasnt an AFC initiated move the AFC were happy with him at West.

Jericho hated the weed and he was never played in the position he wanted/needed to play and was often just left on the bench. Im pretty sure Jericho initiated it.

Jericho's attitude was not appreciated at Westies whenever he was dropped back. His attitude was vastly different to Porps'.

I'd love for the Crows to have more say in where their recruits ended up, it would give them a bit more control in regards to earmarking them for a specific positions. I doubt Tippett will flourish as a key forward at West as they are beyond help, so he'll probably play more in the ruck which won't help our forward line next year, same with Griffen would love to see him play in the forward lines at SANFL level to see how he'd go and whether he's worth persevering with there or as a ruckmen.

Does anyone know what draft pick/round you have to give up to put a NSW scholarship player on your list? I have a copy of the 11 page scholarship book the AFL put out and it discusses the process, but not what pick/round a club gives up. The Swans have drafted their kid Craig Bird and have given up their third pick, which after the trade week ends up at pick 60, which is damn good value for a kid who is a dual All Australian u/18 player. The story I read in the paper didn't say whether the third pick was compulsory or the Swans choice.

Is Taylor old enough to be drafted this year, ie turns 18 on or before 30/4/08?

Taylor can and will be drafted with our last pick in the National Draft.

You can either pick your NSW scholarship players in the Rookie Draft or with your last pick in the National Draft.

Taylor is too young to be rookied, so he will be drafted with our last pick, #75. :)

Ok just saw the other thread about delistings and saw that you will draft Taylor and that he just makes it for the 30 April cut off. I am aware that he can't be rookie listed as he wont be 18 by 31/12/7.

Are you sure that the rule is that you only have to give up your last draft pick? The Swans have given up their 3rd pick which given that they have picked up 2 players and traded 2 away, might be their last pick if they only delist 3 from their squad.

Yep last pick is used to draft C. Bird :thumbsu:

Congrats Taylor Walker! :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Taylor Walker
Height: 190cm
Weight: 82kg
DOB: April 25 1990
Recruited from: Broken Hill

 He was only 16 years old...five and a half months ago.....a lot more time to grow.. ;)

 If a player is too young to be rookied wouldnt they also be too young to be drafted?

No I have no idea

PC the rule is a bit dumb, but it is there to protect kids who might not have finished school but end up on the rookie list, have to move interstate and only get a rookie's pay.

For a rookie you have to be 18 by 31st December in the draft year, but you can be drafted provided you turn 18 by 30 April the next year after you are drafted.

The NSW scholarship kid I mentioned above, Craig Bird, suffered from this rule last year. He was born 21/1/89 so he wasn't 18 by 31/12/06 so he couldn't be rookied, had finished school, missed out on the draft and the PSD. A week or so after the PSD and rookie draft he was put on the Swan's NSW Scholarship list. He was a month shy of his 18th birthday, so not really developing the 15 and 16 year olds NSW based kids the AFL was hoping for.

190cm and a good chance to get taller. Will be VERY interesting to see how this kid goes.

Ive been talking to a few young guys from Broken Hill and they say that this kid has gun written all over him. Its also been said he does show a fair amount of arrogance even when he's playing against the blokes in the A's. I mean its always good to have a bit of that as long as he doesnt go too far with it. I for 1 am very excited about seeing this kid play and seeing what he can really do.

I seem to remember another great key forward from NSW who had that arrogance...

"In the event that the player's development warrants a spot on the club's rookie or senior list after their 18th year, the club will have the option of including the player on to one of these lists without him having to enter the national draft."

He doesn't use a ND pick, just like an upgraded rookie doesn't use a pick.

Youngest player on an AFL list.
Ben Reid (born 29 April 1989)

2007 Draft
Taylor Walker DOB: 25 April 1990

I'd say Walker would pretty much be the youngest guy on an AFL list next year, massive upside goes with that, doubt he'll play AFL next year..however if he does chop it up in the SANFL (he shouldn't considering his age) it's obvious he will become a gun.
