Taylor Walker Dropped...

Yeah but on this years form? Tippett should probably be in the firing line. Whats he kicked 1.8? I kinda hoped that he didnt get up last week, and that they'd have to play tex from the square. Then we would have a better indication of where hes at.

Yeah, not arguing with the fact that Tippett has disappointed, just saying that playing Walker at HF at the *beginning* of the year shouldn't have been a shock.

Walker has been played out of position, so it's hard to guage exactly his level of play.

Looking at it purely from what he's been producing, he probably does deserve to be dropped. Poor intensity, less than acceptable skill level (especially for his standards), not enough goals, however, it's clear as day that he is being horribly managed. He is a FULL FORWARD, not a HFF or a wingman. Craig's beginning to destroy a very special talent because of his thurst for flexibility.

As I said, on form dropping him probably isn't totally ridiculous, but the fact that he's been played out of position and hence the loss of form, is ridiculous. I could understand dropping him if he was constantly playing 80% of the game at FF and delivering nothing, but given that he's being asked to play in a position other than his natural one, it's hard for Tex.

One very frustrated member.

You didn't answer my question, but simply made a point of your own. The question was 'what has TW done as a forward so far at AFL level'. SANFL, great form, kicks goals. The step up has been a problem for him.
I'm not saying that he should be traded and I doubt that would be in Craig's mind either, but as a footballer at AFL level he has a way to go.

Play the kid in the right position and watch him perform. Play him out of position and what him flounder. Simple really. He’s not a half back flanker, winger or even high half forward; he’s a full forward who leads for the ball.

His best games have been when he’s been played as a full forward.

Yeah and I agree with that. Hes a talented forward, maybe more suited to FF, but if hes any good he should still contribute a bit further up the ground. Just a little bemused, not much (if any) talk about Tippett, when his form this year has been very, very ordinary.

I can only imagine this forum if Ian Perrie had put up 1.8 in the first 4 games of a season.

The only problem he's had with the step up is that at AFL level he isn't played as a traditional full forward, that's just what he does. He's got a handful of 3+ goal hauls in his career, and I guarantee you he didn't get them while out on the wing.

The really insulting thing is that the best AFL game of his career was against this mob last year

We love ya Tex, Craigy can **** off!

I'd rather give time on the park to whoever is performing whether they are 32 or 19. The season is not shot until mathematically we cannot make the 8.

Are you implying here that the 32 year old is actually performing? Because he clearly isn't. I'd much prefer to develop the inconsistent young, KPF than a 32 year old, who is past his prime, constantly misses easy set shots and ignores team mates in better positions. Craig can't play Walker in defence/ off the wing then complain about his lower output! I bet Franklin was never played off half back in his first couple of years!

Perrie would never do that

Heart of a Lion!!!

Walker dropped because Craig wants more speed, but I thought it was speed of ball movement Neil that counts?

Based on that theory Rutten will be dropped for Armstrong

It's a bizarre decision and immensely frustrating. It's probably fair to say that Walker hasn't exactly set the world on fire since R1. However, he's been a long way from our worst player over that time, with a large part of the blame falling fairly & squarely at the feet of the coaching staff who insist on playing him out of position. Worse than that, several of our other forwards are performing considerably worse than Walker - Porplyzia wouldn't even know what a Sherrin looks like right now and Burton can't hit the side of a barn. Tippett is safe because we need him as a backup ruckman, a role he is performing satisfactorily even though he's failing dismally as a KPP forward.

All of these failures, yet it is Walker who is made out to be the scapegoat. It beggars belief.

That said, I'd ask all Adelaide members to take a deep breath and refrain from posting insulting comments about Neil Craig or the selection committee.

I couldn't believe it when I read this thread title.

I'm clearly a supporter of Neil Craig; I acknowledge he's not perfect and can be too stubborn, but I think he makes a lot, lot more good calls than he does bad ones.

But this, to me, is ****ing incomprehensible.

Why are we dropping Walker; why aren't we dropping Tippett or Burton or Porplyzia or Knights - you know, the forwards who've contributed **** all this year (and I love 3 of the players I just named)?

We clear out our forwardline, then we drop Walker for being mediocre on the wing?!

Jesus, clear the forward line out and leave Walker at Full Forward; have him one out against his defender from the goalsquare; I'd back him to kick a few goals.

If one of the non-performing senior players isn't dropped, this could just about be the straw that breaks the Neil Craig-loving camel's back for me.

It makes zero sense to me. We've kicked 31 goals in 4 games, and we drop one of more talented forwards?
If we play Tippett in the forward line, Lake would go to him. Walker gets Morris. That's a 50/50.

Yet we decide to drop him back to the SANFL.. to learn what exactly? Is there something he missed in the 10 weeks he spent their last year??

Yeahhh... well, I have to ask.

By all means be as critical as you like. It's a truly bizarre decision to which Neil Craig and the other selectors need to be held accountable. That doesn't give anyone license to abuse them.

You may not want to come on tomorrow night after the match if we lose. If you think this is bad, wait until then

Not only is this decision bizarre purely from a football perspective, but with Neil Craig’s popularity outside of the club at an all time low, it’s bloody insane. Nobody would’ve said boo if he dropped Tippett, Porplyzia, Doughty, Douglas or Petrenko because one way or another these guys would deserve it – Walker is sixth in line behind these guys and there’s others who could go before him too. This just defies logic...I feel so sorry for Tex right now, he must be so freakin confused.

I wonder if the AFC communications team can override the selection committee and the coaching staff...the absolute best thing that they could do for Craigy’s image is get Walker back in and have him anchored to the goal square.

Well, I've had my entertainment for the afternoon! :thumbsu:
You guys are pathetic.

edit: ok, you're all pathetic & paranoid

"OH NOEZ! NC HATES TWALKER! HE'S OUT TO DESTORY HIM!"

cos THAT makes sense...coaches LOVE destroying players on their lists.

HAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA
keep it coming guys! it's hilarious!

Ridiculous post.

How dare you bring that kind of logic 'round here!?

How quick is Porps? And how rusty is he?

How slow is Stevens? And he is sure to be rusty.

Half our side is slow. how the **** can that be the reason to drop Walker and keep a heap of out of form players in the side?

What a stupid decision, they are dropping him because NC plays him on a HBF. He is a Forward!!!!

To bad we can't drop the coaching staff for a week.

Well after a 10+ goal spanking on National TV tomorrow night and a 6-8 goal performance produced by our rediclous game plan and completely clueless coach I suggest you close your eyes or look away from this Board tomorrow night. Many of us cannot take the madness anymore its been going on for 2 and a half years now and it doesn't seem to stop.

Absolutely baffling decision but I felt it coming a mile away. Its almost like Craig is trying to prove to everyone that he can turn a player into something he isnt. WAKE UP NEIL!!
