Taylor Walker Dropped...

I have tried to always respect the selectors decisions and my posts have always been "keep positive...the coach and selectors know what they are doing."

However this selection blunder defies belief!!! Walker has not been our among our worst poerformers this year. Even playing out of position he has shown more than most.Keeping in an unfit player who can't make the distance from 30 metres and dropping the best forward kick in the side is incredulous. I just am lost for words.....

As shocked and disappointed as the rest of you guys, they drop Walker for poor performance and and brining in Henderson and mention he can play in the forward line and can give it a spark... How about they try and give Walker a game or two as FF and see what he can do?

Not really that anti Burton as most because at least he is getting the ball around the forward line so his got part 1 complete now he just has to focus on part 2... getting it though the big sticks.

I don't even really know what too look forward to this week... Wait, Danger is still in the side:D!!!

Pretty obviously a strategic decision. We're going to bottom out in a year when no meaningful picks will be available. By dropping Taylor, we send an open indication to Gold Coast, thus opening up a first round pick. Genius really!!

Seriously though, I find this decision odd at best. Taylor hasnt been our worst and needs some confidence shown on him. Oh well time will tell.

Well after a 10+ goal spanking on National TV tomorrow night and a 6-8 goal performance produced by our rediclous game plan and completely clueless coach I suggest you close your eyes or look away from this Board tomorrow night. Many of us cannot take the madness anymore its been going on for 2 and a half years now and it doesn't seem to stop.
By the way, it's "ridiculous". There's no "e" in the word. Pet peeve.

Our game plan is good enough to have us scoring more than 6-8 goals. We had 25 scoring shots last Saturday alone. I'm not sure how it's the fault of the game plan that our players can't kick it though the big sticks from 25m out on a 20 degree angle?

Our problems have many causes. A lot of it is due to injuries to key personnel. Part of it is players who are down on confidence and failing to execute the most basic skills (kicking, hand balling) above a level witnessed at your local U10 matches. Part of it, yes, is due to failures with the game plan (not the least of which is our refusal to play a single forward in the forward line). To blame everything on the game plan is ridiculously simplistic.

What madness going on for 2 1/2 years? I agreed with the decision to drop Walker last year and his abysmal performance when recalled against Collingwood justified it entirely. On the other hand, it's all but unfathomable and almost patently wrong this time around.
You may not want to come on tomorrow night after the match if we lose. If you think this is bad, wait until then
What do you mean "if". I tipped Footscray to win by 85 and I'm sure that was being optimistic. We have NO chance of winning tomorrow night.

I'm in a bit of a bind as to what to do tomorrow night. The game is on a 2 hour delay here in Canberra. I know the board is going to be in meltdown, but I really don't want to spoiler myself...

Rucci, if you are reading this, you are permiited to write a scathing article about the afc.

Something along the lines of how an embattled coach, who is rapidly losing the faith of the clubs supporters has chosen to rub their noses in it by dropping a very poular player, whom the supporters were already feeling was being treated very poorly.

Sure you cant keep all of the supporters happy all of the time, but seriously could he have made a worse call this week, given the nasty backlash of last week.

This is a PR disaster for the club and will do nothing to improve the teams on field performance. Why in hell would you do it.

This is just insane. Craigy's whipping boy Walker gets the arse again, while Burton continues his free ride of "rock up and you'll get a game." Last season Craigy was finally starting to convince me he knew what he was doing, but nope, it's obvious he's gone bonkers. Also good to know that our 30+'s are sticking to their "if we suck, drop us" plan.

Keep this in mind.

Over the past few weeks, Walker has been one of the most vilafied players in the post match threads for not trying, being accountable, chasing etc.

Some people want cake and a full tummy I believe.

Optimistic I suppose.

Just lock the board but one thread then delete it once you get back:p

I really, really, really hope Taylor Walker is a mature kid and has a strong commitment to the club...because if he doesn't (and let's be honest not all footballers do) then this is the type of decision that can change a career.

Either it is soul destroying and leads to a downward spiral of confidence or it alienates him from the club and pushes him to seek a trade. AFC are big losers either way and so I hope we don't look back at this moment as the turning point.

That I don't agree with the decision is one thing (shit happens) but I just cannot see either the consistency or the fairness in the decision to at least make it understandable.

Walker is by no means the slowest player in the team - which is the reason put on record by NC (which you have to think is not the true reason). If pace was the real issue then there are other players (Edwards, Doughty, Burton, Rutten, Stevens, Porplyzia, et al) who should go first (or not be selected).

Walker (although he hasn't set the world on fire) is by no means our worst performed player this year. Most judges would have Tippett, Pprplyzia, arguably Burton, and a host of others as being in worse form than Tex.

It just don't add up...gotta be a personal (behind the scenes) element to this.

You need a Supercoach or Dream Team. Was thinking of tuning out for the first time ever until I remembered the DT. Actually, I think some twisted part of me is interested to see the fallout when we walk off the park 100 points down.

perspective.

I felt sorry for Neil Craig and all the criticism and abuse he has been receiving this past week, but it is now surely warranted.. maybe not the abuse, but certainly the criticism. To continue with Burton and drop our most promising and natural forward is ludicrous.

The only way out of this predicament for Neil, is to win.

Burton saved his neck by coming out during the week and saying Craig was funy, after this atrocity he aint far off the money, needs to be sent to the ****ing funny ****ing farm:mad:

Burton has been the most dangerous-looking forward for the last 2 weeks. Couldn't really be dropped. Goal-kicking has obviously been poor, but he has been getting it; has been taking marks.

Vader, just let it rain mate.
I can't hold back the tide, but if I can do something to limit the damage by way of a pre-emptive strike, then every bit helps. I hate having to hand out infractions for people who are posting whilst in a highly emotionally charged state and not really thinking straight.

I called it last year, we can forget any of our senior players being dropped this year.

Neil Craig's mentality seems to be totally based around the old school senior group mentality, Toots Hibbert sent me a link to an old interview with Craig on 5AA in January where he was talking about our pre-season and how the the squad was progressing. The thing I noticed which was very interesting was that he began by discussing the squad and was talking briefly about our younger players and then he said, but more importantly for our supporters I am happy to report the form on the training track of Burton, Edwards, Goodwin and McLeod has been superb.

The whole tone of the conversation gave the impression that Neil Craig believes that those 4 players are the superstars of our club and it's really the only players that people actually care about.

If pace is the real reason (and I do agree with you this is a mask), one would suspect he will be traded out of the club at the end of this year as its high unlikely his pace will improve. Why wouldn’t they trade him when his value is still quite high?

Poor doesn't come close to describing it. He had 7 shots on Saturday and only one of them went through the big sticks. 3 of them didn't even make the distance, or went OOTF. None of the shots were from tight angles or more than 40m out. An acceptable return would have been 5.2 or 6.1. He kicked a measly 1.3. That's a long, long, way short of acceptable.

There's no point in monopolising the delivery into the F50 if you're going to butcher 86% of the opportunities the midfielders manage to generate. It's bad footy and it's demoralising for the rest of the team.

Over the 5 years, i cannot remember any senior player getting dropped. Been saying it for 2 years now – just doesn’t happen.
