Looks like Taylor Walker had another good game on the weekend. From what i read he kicked 4 goals and was best player for his club in the Broken Hill league.

So can someone tell me, as it stands now, what the ruling is on these NSW/ACT guys, when we can pick him up and with what pick ?

Rookie List or we can use our last selection of the National Draft

He would have to feel a little hard done by if he gets rookie listed considering he probably would have been picked up in the draft if he wasnt scholarship listed.

He DEFINITELY can't be rookie listed. First of all, I don't believe the rules would let anyone take any nominate a rookie selection for a NSW scholarship player. Second of all, you have to be a certain age to get rookie listed. Taylor Walker is 17 and doesn't even qualify for the rookie list because he's too young.

And yes, this has been done five times over. :p

If he can't be rookie listed (which won't matter because he'll be on the senior list), it has to be an age constraint.

As I read a piece on the AFL site about a NSW lad that was signed by Brisbane, that was eligible for the Rookie List.

I didn't think we could rookie list him.

I'm sure this subject has been done about 5 times over.
We can't rookie list him this year because he is a bottom age player.

We basically signed him up to a 2 year "sponsorship". This year he is a bottom age player so we can nominate him to be picked with our last pick in the National Draft. Since he is a bottom age player he just doesn't qualify for a rookie list full stop.

So we can draft him to the senior list this year, or we can keep him as a development player for another year and then either rookie list him next year or pick him up in the National Draft.

I am pretty sure he can go into the draft this year if he wants to opt out of the "sponsorship" deal he has with us if we are refusing to pick him this year and he believes he will get drafted by another AFL club.

Was flicking through the channel on Foxtel tonight and came across a NSW/ACT footy show on Aurora

It’s a weekly rap up show of the NSW/ACT league – the standard didn’t look that good so I didn’t watch for long and didn’t see any stuff on Taylor Walker. .

Anyone seen it – it’s normally on Foxtel channel 183 (Aurora) Wednesday night about 8 o’clock

As he was AA under 18 he would be pretty talented and one would expect him to be highly sort after. If he is a top 30 pick and we can grab him with a pick in the 70’s we would be mental not to do it this season.

And hes a forward which is what we need so if we don't draft him this year ill go kill some defenceless animals in a rage

We've got him covered, so why draft him this year when we can draft, or rookie him, next year? He's 17, so let's face it, he won't be playing any senior AFL footy next year anyway.

The only way the club would draft him this year is if:
a) he opts out of the scholarship and nominates himself for the draft; or
b) the club thinks it would assist his development by taking him sooner rather than later - training at the Crows and being allocated a SANFL club rather than continuing in Broken Hill.

That's a decision the club will probably make with him and his family.

because it's supposed to be a fairly week draft after the first dozen, so by the time our third or fourth round pick comes along I'd rather use it on a promising 17 year old forward than Alan Obst version 2

Can somebody please explain to me who this Taylor Walker is? Is he a father-son or something?

Excuse the ignorance guys....

The AFL came up with the idea of furthering the game within NSW/ACT. As a result, each AFL club is given 2 "scholarship" spots, with which they can scout out a junior player and sign them up. Basically it is an allegiance between, in our case, the AFC and Taylor, who give him a little bit of a helping hand, be it use of facilities, or any way in which the club can help his development. As we approach the draft, as has been pointed out above, we can either draft him, or place him on the rookie list. This season, since he is a bottom age player, he can not be added onto the rookie list, and must either be left to develop or pick him up in the draft. For the next 2 seasons, we have the exclusive rights to the kid, no other club can come in and take him away.

He looks like he will be a star, an absolute keeper. IMHO we should draft him this year, it's a weak draft, and really would be an absolute gem to pick him up late, I would expect him to go first round, no problems next season if he wasn't involved with the program, so might make up for the way we have been screwed over in the past.

You're right - I was watching some draft stuff and started to make a list up in my head of the players the Crows could do with - had about six or seven names....and they're all projected to be gone by the end of the second round. There's no reason not to take a gamble on Walker with our last pick; I mean as you point out it couldn't be any worse than listing Alan Obst surely?

In an ideal world, this is what I would be hoping for from this ND:
Pick #1: Brad Ebert
Pick #2: Austin Wonnaemirri (spelling?)
Pick #3: ???
Pick #4: Taylor Walker

Ebert is clearly the best of the SA kids this year and is projected to fall to around our where our pick is likely to be (6-8). As an added bonus, it would probably annoy Port no end for us to have an Ebert on our list - then again, no worse than them having two Cornes' on their list.

Wonnaemirri would appear to be the fast crumbing forward we so desperately need.

Walker is our future HFFer. Selected in the AA side, so you'd have to think we'd be seriously considering drafting him.

Given our desperate need to turnover the list, due to the aging 1st tier players and excess of middle-aged 2nd tier players, I would like to see us taking 4 kids in the draft. Not sure who we should be targetting with selection #3.

I beg to differ. I am not sorry in the slightest that we don't have the Cornes boys. They belong to Port Adelaide as they fit in down there - ie they are nuf nufs.

Hoepfully Graham will declare his allegiance to them soon and we can be rid of the whole family, as they all annoy me to varying degrees.

Us having Brad Ebert however would annoy the living #$%* out of the Port Power mob. Doubt he will slip to our frist pick though.

I agree Jars and Mr Cornes should be removed as an ambassador of the football club.

If we draft Brad Ebert, fantastic but I don’t really care where they come from as long as they make us a better side. The Adelaide Football Club winning is going to be enough to piss them off, so who cares who we have on our list.

i dont think neil craig ever (or never will) associates with the word "gamble"
