  • I felt we outlasted the Bombers
  • Pendles is a Superstar and Top 5 Player in the Comp. Sign him ASAP
  • Steele has been very Quiet the last Few Weeks
  • Didak looks out of Touch
  • Toovey had the Best Game I seen him play
  • Davis can play 1 on 1
  • Ball looks very good and even his Kicking today was Fantastic

Sidebottom shouldn't be dropped IMO. He isn't playing any worse than he was last year (when funnily enough I had his name up as a possible to be dropped and was smashed for it on these boards) He was pretty good last week and did some handy things this week. He may get a rest later in the season but for now I think he is doing a handy enough job.

Didak on the other hand I would consider dropping but Krak, LeCafe, McCarthy would all be ahead of the Ugle and Fasalo.

Get out of Jail win vs Bombers My Thoughts

  • I felt we outlasted the Bombers Yes - but we have the class these days in previous years we would have lost that game.
  • Pendles is a Superstar and Top 5 Player in the Comp. Sign him ASAP - Yes Agreed
  • Steele has been very Quiet the last Few Weeks - Yes
  • Didak looks out of Touch - Yes
  • Toovey had the Best Game I seen him play - Hmmm not sure on that (2010 PF vs Geelong was way better), but was pretty good
  • Davis can play 1 on 1 - Yes
  • Ball looks very good and even his Kicking today was Fantastic - Yes

My Changes for Rd 6 vs Doggies

In: Fasolo Ugle NO WAY :o

Out: Sidebottom - Maybe Didak - No

Steele to have rest, looks out of sorts.

Bring back Krakouer

Brad Dick had no influence on the game when he came on and look out of sorts. Back to VFL for at least 2 weeks.

Out Sidebottom, Dick
In Krakouer, Macaffer

My bests:
Pendlebury: Dominated. Essendon didn't give him enough attention and as always during big games had his usual big game.
Thomas: Didn't feel like he got allot of it, but when he did, just did things. Went for a few sensational runs and would be amongst my votes. Off the ball did allot and was important because of those things that don't show up in the statistical categories. Running, chasing, smothering. Great effort as usual.
Cloke: Very strong target. As usual a few cheap goal, but good for keeping critics away if it makes his conversion look better than it is. Kicked his goals when the game was on the line which was great to see.
Ball: Tackled and played hard as usual. Has some speed back. Thing he has added is kicking. Even on the left foot looked good and kept hitting targets he might not have hit last year which is a great sign.
I'd add all the defenders to the bests.
O'Brien: In the first half gave great run and consistantly beat his man. Back in form which is great to see.
Reid: Kicking from defense was first rate. Best in the league. Ever kick I noticed hit the target with perfect placement.
Toovey was very good and clearly beat his man. Showed great effort down back with chasing + tackling as usual. Very good game.
Tarrant excellent down back. Settled and now starting to play the footy we expect. Really liked his effort at stages.
Davis: Great 1 v 1 consistantly beating his man. Got allot of it but his decision making + disposal can often be iffy. Would want him to fix it up if he wants to retain his spot. But looking very confident and has his run and confidence back which is great to see.
Shaw continuing on good form..

Good signs:
Jolly looked good for probably the first time this season. Dominated the hitouts and looked dangerous going forward.
Wellingham has been down all season but played at a high intensity today which was great to see. Tackled hard.

Not so good:
Johnson I hardly noticed.
Didak didn't have a great influence on the game.
Dick didn't have a great influence when he came on. Would have liked for him to have spent another month at VFL level and still not convinced he has shown enough form yet. If anything McCarthy would have been a better choice and will again be pushing after a great week at VFL level.

Team notes:
Felt to 3/4 time Essendon as a team outplayed us and wanted it more.
Played inside the Bombers 50 more than it should have during the first 3 quarters.
On occasions beaten out of the centre a couple too many times too easily against an inferior midfield. Should have won the midfield battle more convincingly.
Would still like for us to become a better 120 minute team (4 quarter team). Needs to be a bigger focus on this, there will always be ebs and flows, but the effort and desire to win the hard ball needs to be consistant.
Would also consider the winning margin once again flattering. It's the sign of a good team to be able to win by more than you should (ala Geelong 07-09) but come finals time you want to be playing the better games consistantly and be winning the game not just on the score board.

Other notes:
Would have liked for Krakouer to have played to see how he stands up on the big stage against a quality team in a big game. If he didn't perform, then next week would be the week to drop him to the VFL. In any case not a bad thing giving Krak the message that he has to win a position in our team, because nothing is easy at this level. I think he will respond and show us why we recruited him with a strong 2nd half to the season.

My recommended changes for next week:
In: McCarthy
Out: Dick
Judgement call:
In: Krakouer (Only if Mick wants to bring Krak back, have a feeling he will have a strong view in one direction that it is either a 1 game thing, or he wants to prove a point that games aren't automatic and that they are a thing to be earned)
Out: Johnson (For rotational purposes. By no means perminant out)

Pendles,Davis,Ball,Cloke,Wellingham,Shaw were best IMO, Toovey and Ball stood out aswell.
Steele and Didak have been quiet all year dont think will be dropped though, and Harry O and Maxy werent their best either.
Dont think Dick will be dropped after being sub and only playing the last quarter he will be given a few more weeks of full games to prove himself.
Thought we did well today, they beat us in the second and third quarter but a wins a win can't complain.

in Inside Footy Crackers Keenan reckons we are not happy with how the Kids are going in the VFL:rolleyes:
Stop reading inside footy

easy fix

Stop the presses!!!! Our VFL team is performing like shit and the club isn't happy about our players performances. Wowee Krackers a hard hitting insightful statement right there.

Yeah I just laughed when I read that:thumbsu:

Mick said the opposite in his youtube broadcast to members, just stressed the inexperience of the current VFL team.

I don't understand Inside Football much, but I guess their drivel is understandable when they at least put it on notice they hate the Pies. Tim Lane and Robert Walls should openly do the same. Wouldn't it be great if they came out before a match and said, we all know we hate Collingwood, and let's see if we can't cheer on their opponents to victory.

Not too sure about changes for this week. I think probably given the current injuries or lack thereof, it's probably more about getting the right amount of miles in the legs given the bye is coming up. Unfortunately that bye is for both teams, AFL and VFL.

I'd be keeping the side pretty close to what it has been, probably using someone like Sidebottom as the sub, with Wellingham perhaps coming off mid Q3.

In terms of personnel, I'm not concerned about too many adjustments, but I would like to see a game where Davis, Dick and Krakouer are all in the team, though for team balance I can fully understand that Mick will probably not allow it to occur.

WTF is with people taking one average game as playing bad all year? Sidebottom was really good the week before and had another good game. Two other ok games and pretty average against Essendon but when you actually look at each time he was in the play he did some good things. His game time is always lower than most so look at quality not quantity. I do think he could be a rest but he's not going as bad as people think.

Ugle and Fasolo in, you're kidding me! McCarthy should be next in, Macaffer, Goldsack and Krakeour are clearly before those two.

Even though Mick stats he wants to play x amount of players they aren't going to drop guys or flirt with form. The team changes little each week even though people suggest multiple ridiculous changes.

What reasons do we have to be happy with the VFL boys apart from McCarthy? No one has dominated the lower grade, our key position players have been beaten and we have been smashed in the ruck and clearances.

Very little.

I think Macaffer plays better at AFL level. Wood has been alright but definitely a big downgrade on Jolly or Brown. Goldsack has been ok but still needs game time and fitness. Apart from that if we lose a key back (Taz or Reid) or if we get multiple injuries the depth isn't quite there.

I don't think it's a big concern because the VFL side is very young and most players would be 2 years off.

The players we need pushing through seem to always get injured eg. Sinclair and Thomas.

i cant help but buy that stupid magazine :thumbsd:

As if people are calling for Dick to be dropped after 1 game as a sub haha.

I don't think he should be dropped, but there is no value playing Dick as a sub. He isn't going to be a 20 minute explosive player in his first or second game back, and he doesn't have any defensive side to speak of besides his tackling. If we are going to play him again, start him in the pocket and sub him in the 3rd or fourth for Kraks. Waste of time to have Krakouer in the 2s at this point off of one average game, we could easily drop half the team for the same reason.

Irony of the AFL Ladder

While we sit Pretty at top of the Ladder we seen the Brisbane Lions Dead Last.

The team that beat us in the 2002 and 2003 GF is down the bottom now and we are at the top.

Your Thoughts?

Re: Irony of the AFL Ladder

My thoughts? That's not ironic.

Having said that, neither us or them have more than a couple of players that played in that era. They are nearly entirely different teams now.

All clubs need their time on the bottom, and it's nice to see Brisbane down there for a change after their significant period of September dominance.

Voss as coach has been really interesting for me. Would be very interested how things would be different if he had Leigh Matthews or someone else with an equal coaching reputation as assistant in the way Mark Thompson has been for James Hird.
Really tough even for a guy with Voss' winning pedigree to step into a senior coaching position without having even spent time as an assistant. James Hird for mine only is doing it because he has Mark Thompson.

Brisbane are just going to have to be patient and with players like Power, Black and Brown in coming years to still retire, it won't be a quick recovery for the once great Lions.

Re: Irony of the AFL Ladder

Brisbane won their flags on the back of the AFL fairy godmother. Now that the AFL has withdrawn its support they have plunged - not to their rightful position on talent - but because they still believe they can be a powerhouse without any effort on thier part.

Re: Irony of the AFL Ladder

Carlton is irrelevant. Brisbane are the ultimate rivals to Collingwood. Hope Voss gets burnt while they're down there. What an arrogant bloody team that was.
