Really think McGovern is better suited as our CHB. I've already said it before I don't think brown will come back as well and barass is still 2 full years away from being ready in my mind. As it stands for starting 18 I will only consider players already on our list but here is what I think will happen.

FB Sheppard Emac Schofield
HB Hurn McGovern Wellingham
C Gaff Yeo Duggan
HF Lecras Darling Lamb
FF Cripps Kennedy Hill
RR Nicnat Shuey Sheed
I Lycett Masten Waterman ******
E:Nelson Newman Brown

Lecras playing more as a mid if his body holds up. Lamb and darling playing more of a dual CHF role and alternating their runs up the field as marking targets. May need 1 year contracts for hill and wellers permanently though to keep them hungry ;) ****** is our big name trade / free agency target.

I've worked on the perspective that selwood goes in free agency, brown doesn't come up quite as well from his recon / is depth. Priddis retires at end of 2016, rosa likely too banged up.

I'd take that at this stage.
Haha - maybe with WCE 00s midfield Mk2, but not so much now. Although Hansen did have a pretty good first half of a career.

Off topic, but rewatching the game, I think we should go after Brendon Ah Chee moreso than Coniglio. Would be much cheaper and there's something about him I like the look of.

Recruit him with our 2nd/3rd. Take his brother with pick 10-12.

And I suggest it would be the right thing to go for a KPP with our 2nd or 3rd (assuming we get 2nd round for a Selwood),

We may also be in a position of trading Brown or Schofield based on Barrass coming through the system. He is making some positive signs in EP - possibly block off 2015 as the year to learn your trade and dominate WAFL from FB or CHB or even a ruckman with a 4th or 5th round. May also be beneficial with McInness getting games that he may be surplus to needs and there is always currency in a tall aged under 22 with 20 games. That may net us a pick upgrade or a late 2nd early 3rd (allowing us another Nelson)

It will be a while, even best case scenario, before Barrass is good enough for us to trade out a KPD. We certainly don't want any less KPD on the list than we currently have considering we didn't replace Glass and want to move Gov forward.

Structurally very important.

Yeah, I reckon that's a good idea.

Apparently he's on a one-year deal so by all means shake him loose.

I'd suggest that we should have a list of guys like Ah Chee to target. Fine, they're not headline names or A-graders, or whatever, but they're a few years into their development and wouldn't command a huge bounty in return if they're out of contract and not actually best 22. It would be akin to the Dogs pinching Koby Stevens or us pinching Jamie Cripps.

I'd much rather keep our first-rounder and find a way to add 2-3 developing mids than overpay for one guy.

Definitely. He also seems to have some class/spark about him that makes you think he could be damn good one day. He's big, competitive, hard at it, good overhead and seems to have decent skills. Same sort of attributes that is making Yeo so effective.

Seen a little of Litherland - doesn't excite me as much as BAC. Jansen I haven't seen, but I reckon Port's mids will keep BAC out of the side moreso than Geelong's will keep out Jansen. Surely they start their cull pretty soon.

Jansen has been injured.

Litherland is a defender so no one is likely to get excited about him. But he looks quite composed, makes good decisions and is pretty mobile. He's behind Frawley, Birchall and Gibson in Hawthorn's defence.

I'm just saying, these are where you get the trading wins, like Kennedy to Sydney. Everyone wants that kind of deal but it's never particularly exciting to begin with. And it's partially a numbers game. You have to be attuned to identifying hidden value.

Hard to argue, although I hope Hill remains in the mix.

Overall, for mine, this emphasises the need to expand the midfield options.

Hoping lamb becomes a big bodied mid.

Hopefully still some good players available at our first pick (20ish ) XD

Do we need to make room for Coniglio? I suggest that the Giants will be more open to trading players as they a) need the draft picks to use on academy players and b) are bulging with a salary structure that will not fit into the normal team's salary cap.

We are looking pretty this week in the top 4 but the season is a lot longer than 6 weeks. All depends on where the respective clubs finish as pick 5-10 are worth a lot more than picks 10-20. The word is that the draft is pretty good this year but we will know a lot more after the U18 Championships.

Not sure I want to give up a 1st round draft pick for Coniglio. That said, a first round and a fourth round for Coniglio and their second might do it. I would happily give up a first round for Shiel or Treloar so possibly a good starting place at the negotiating table.

Looking at the game plan on Sunday, Simo is starting to build confidence and capacity to go down the corridor. We are yet to see Cavka - spoke with a couple of other BF tragics and it may be that we need to make space for Cavka running all day between CHF and CHB. That was the charter given to Nelson in Q4 against Power and whilst he did not impact in possessions, he damn well made a difference and shored up our centre corridor. Funny how stats alone make some people believe he made no impact.

Oh and I am a long way off believing Newman will make it yet. Based on the last 2 weeks, he is well behind Hill. Probably says just as much about Hill stepping up.

There are clearly two camps forming... those who want Gov to stay back and those who want him forward

I'm in the latter. It is a pity NN can't ruck 80% because I'd be tempted to run with Gov rucking 20% with JK and Darling forward

If Gov does go forward, Darling will need meaningful midfield time - otherwise we become too top heavy.

Exactly my thoughts. Either end he plays is going to be good though.

I guess the other option is Gov simply plays both ends. The lad is talented enough

When we come up against a side like Port - he plays back, when it is Freo - he plays forward.

For JK, NN, SL, JD, MB, EM, JM, WS - i think there is only 7 spots to get the balance right

SL?

Sharrod Lollingham?

Not sure we can play EM, MB, JC and WS in the same side.

If Schoey can focus on being a KPD rather than a flanker and keep the weight on, I prefer him to Brown.

He's a better rebounder, and I reckon with the extra KG he's just as good a spoiler. Mackenzie is the wrestler so we are fine there, and Gov is the interceptor.
