As long as Kennedy is coming in im happy. Pagan should give him free licence to explore the ground at his leisure and go for as many marks as he likes. Because when Kennedy finds his range and confidence he's going to be scarily good.

I'd rather we keep McGrath. He's a tough honest player. Kennedy for Teague was an obvious team change though.

That's one hyper-young team. Maybe our youngest ever?

so funky you're not happy sentanta getting another opportunity at the expense of mcgrath. personally i think we have to find out where carlos is at.

I'm not so sure about Kennedy playing, would prefer him dominating in the twos then having a big preseason and unleashing him onto an unsuspecting comp next year, but with Fish and Waite out I guess we haven't got much of a choice.

Ecstatic to see Setanta back. Hopefully they just plonk him in defense and tell him to relax and just enjoy himself.

Very happy with both ins. Setanta has to be played defense if he's gonna make it IMO. From all reports he's been good there in VFL, and with the tall forwards we have (Fev, Waite, Fish, Kennedy, Hartlett?), it'll be very hard for him to break into the team when all are fit. Hopefully he'll develop into a good defender.

great to see josh & carlos back in. that will help given fev's confidence may not be 100% especially in the pack situation.

also great to see blackwell, russsell etc staying in and will be great for them to play against one of the great midfields to learn from.

Agreed on both points.
McGrath a bit stiff, maybe needs a run in the magoos, is handy though.

Other ins fair enough.
But a bunch of kids from now on.
All for seeing them,
the usual suspects have had their 3 months.

Plus it is our next to last interstate trip (R22),
and i personally think these are great learning curves,
and develop a bit more bonding in the group.

Didn't think about that. Pagan's changed his ways. In previous years Russell would've been dropped after that 7 possie game. Great to see.

Here's a question for the stats buffs, is this the youngest side Carlton has put on the field in 20 years?

I'm happy for Setanta to be tried again to see whether he has learnt/improved from his unimpressive debut. He has been on our list for a few years now, and it's now or never to see what he's learnt * made of IMO, & I would prefer him in the defence rather than as a forward. I just hope he has regained some confidence, and plays well. Good luck, Setanta?
McGrath out, a little unlucky, has played some good games, but just not consistent enough. (Pity he wasn't in to play on his brother) Teague out, lost all form from his B & F year, probably delisted at end of year.
Kennedy is a great "in", should be given every opportunity to show his talent. He is going to be a big Plus for us in coming years.

1.
agree
2.
the outs were obvious
3.
wrapped to see the younger kids kept in ie Blackers and JR
4.
Adam Hartlett in the Bullants, hope to see as a CFC 'in' within a month or so
5.
Carlos - needs game time, needs to show he can step up, hope he has a few weeks in regardless of form, needs confidence, needs us to support and not bag if he has a bad game
6.
The team looks to have a nice balance of the 'old and new'

I know everyone wants to see Setanta in defence but he was also quite good in the preseason up forward. With Fev there to take the heat, Setanta may be the perfect foil.

SETANTA!!!!!!!!!! And about bloody time too.

Has been ultra consistant playing across half back for the 'ants all year. Hopefully he plays back and takes on his opponent and give us some run off half back like in the 2's.

And Kennedy should be in the AFL. He has shown me enough in the VFL and really just needs game time in the AFL. Thats the only thing that will help him develop.

Sad to see but thank goodness Teague and Coz are out. Id rather play the kids anyday!

CARN THE BLUES!!!

Setanta doesn't read the play particularly well and he has a tendency to run into areas we need to keep open for Fev. He'll be far better playing off a forward who can read the play for him.

He played so badly in his last game, just didn't have any idea where to run, what to do etc, I honestly believe he suffered from "Stage fright". The nerves got to him. I just hope he is over that now and gets on with it. IT'S TIME!!!

When Carlos arrived, his first pre season game at MC Labour Park (Princes Park) was versus Geelong in the backline.

He should be played there and remain there. He wil be lead to the ball, be accountable for a man, and learn much more than being lost and losing confidence as a forward.

As a forward if he runs, drops a ball, kicks a point or out of bounds he loses confidence. In the backline he can punch and has a little more luxury with his kicks. Thats not too say that poor disposal won't hurt us there, nor will it frustrate him if someone bodies him out for a mark, but it won't dent his confidence ( my opinion) as much.

Too many more accomplished options for forward line.

Nicely summed up. :thumbsu:

It would appear that Teague may have played his last game for Carlton. Will find it hard to get back in the team now, as players start returning from injury. I somehow suspect Teague is playing in the wrong era. He would have been a lot better in the '70s & '80s when a stack of courage would make up for a lack of pace and skill. He gave us one good year. We didn't lose anything to get him to the club. Always sad to see someone come up short in the Navy Blue, but the club is going forward into a new exciting era and players will need to be very talented to make it on to the Carlton list from now on.

Teague is contracted for next year though. Not sure what we're going to do with him because I can't see him having any future.

Very happy with the ins and outs.Obviously over the moon with Kennedy. Also really happy with Carlos as I was thinking a couple more steady performances in Ants and they might look at him for Blues,so this was a real surprise.I really hope he cements a spot for himself in the backline. He just needs to relax and trust his ability, its up to him now. Were needing a big fast backman so this might be his time.
