The likes of Saddington and Bannister aren't incredible...but Ackland, Armfield, Austin, Blackwell, Bower, Cloke, Grigg, Hadley, Hartlett, Jackson, Pfeiffer, Russell and Jamison are all okay for non-best 22, with half plenty of improvement to go..

Geelongs is good, as is Hawthorns...but I like Collingwoods depth as well...Pies have Anthony, Brown, Cook, Dawes, Dick (despite knee), Iles, Reid and Toovey with a more than a couple pre-seasons under there belt and would all be pressing senior selection, while a little more experience from Bryan, Holland, Lonie and Egan aren't probably in there best 22. Alot of balanced depth there...just too bad the retirement of Clement.

geelong lost a lot of depth at the end of last season. the eagles have weak players after their best 22. i think freo have great depth this year. we will trouble lots of teams with our dazzling array of skills.:thumbsu:

good joke(s). :thumbsu:

I don't think geelong has lost THAT much depth - only a few players. It doesn't seem too bad and just like every other team they'll develop throughout the year.
How have the eagles got all weak players after their 22? I'd like to know.
How has freo gone from not having very good depth to GREAT depth in a space of a couple of months and a game hasn't been played yet?

Dockers only have "depth" Because they are a useless team which always is trying to add or change their lineup to find some sort of cohesive team structure. Therefore no name hacks get 20-30 games before being relagated to "depth" players only then after two odd years they get delisted

If you think his comment about Geelong is a joke, think again.

no, it was more about the eagles and the dockers bit.
I know Geelong has lost depth but I don't think its in a dire state or in a situation where it will effect the team alot if you get a couple of injuries here or there.

i seriously think freo are going to do it this year, we have topped up and drafted well. are the chardy sipping pinkos starting to get worried?

yes, geelong lost a few very handy players that may have been useful if/when injuries pop up during the season.

13 Seasons later we are still shaking in our boots, preparing for the Juggernaut that is The Fremantle FC :thumbsu:

Which team has the best depth going into season 2008?

For my team, St. Kilda, i think we have great depth with a lot of decent young players and even older players that will find it hard to break into the best 22 with no injuries.

IMO Geelong would probably have the best depth.

umm..can you not? what a shit stereotype. I hate that with a passion.

No, we aren't getting worried..we get the same preseason hype for the dockers year after year and we still haven't seen anything spectacular. It would actually be nice (sort of) if they won so we can say WA has another
successful sporting team and it might stop the idiotic trolls about the eagles owning perth just because they are currently more successful than the dockers and which then leads to the perception that wce get more 'exposure' if thats what you want to call it.

We don't have high expectations for our team this year anyway, so why would be getting worried about 'hype'? I think 'Chris Who' summed it up perfectly actually.

and no, no I don't know why I'm even replying.

because you know this year your pidgeons are gonna get pwned.

Dockers have a midget one pace midfeild. Until that is fixed they won't be much chop I think.

I think Bulldogs are up there as far as depth goes. My top 4 in no particular order would be:

Freo, Geelong, St Kilda & Doggies

It is not only the quality of the players out of or on the fringe of the side but also the flexibility of the players already in the side. For example Ryder significantly adds to our depth within our team as he can play on talls and smalls in the backline or he can play in the ruck or in the forward line. I would imagine Hodge's flexibility to Hawthorn too.

I dont care who the team is, you can cover one or two injuries to key players. If the number starts climbing higher than that and/or the injuries are long(ish) term, I don't care what team it is, you will struggle against other strong teams not facing such crippling injuries.

Having said that, the poster that listed Hackland as a "dependable back-up" was surely kidding. On paper, he is probably your number 1 or 2 ruckman at Carlton at the minute.

This might be as stupid as anything I've read on bigfooty. Your club has the worst depth of any in the comp by a mile. You will start to build a good top 6 but the inability of Carlton to find players late in the draft to build depth has been a real problem. Carazzo one exception

Anybody mentioning Cain Ackland in any argument must be losing, unless the Q is worst player on an AFL list for 3 seasons or more

the original Q is easy Geelong by a mile]
