Thoughts on avoiding Suns & Port players in starting side and targeting them as upgrades after their R9 bye?

Would be handy to upgrade a R11,12,13 bye player in round 10 and grab Ablett/Gray/Ryder/Hartlett etc.

That way you would avoid having any players out with a bye R9, and you'd also have the ones you trade in for all of R11,12,13..

You mean for starting with them? Going to have a bad week in R9 if you have a heap of Suns and Port players. Is R9 a normal week with 22 scoring?

Yep start with Ryder for cover if going Sandilands and take a look at potential top 10 for their line players such as GAJ, Robbie, Wingard, Pittard, Touk, maybe even Hall or KK.

Touk, Robbie, Wines, Will Brodie, Ainsworth, Powell Pepper, whatever other rookies emerge.. plenty of options... even if you only have 2-3 of them, it's 2-3 rookies you will have to play on the field while every other person has a full squad.

PS. I've got 3 Suns and 2 Port in my side, not including rookies.

Best to forget about West Coast rucks.
Naitanui out untill round 17 at best.
Lycett only half a pre season after pcl surgery.
Giles unfit and being held back during some training sessions.
Vardy made of bolsa wood held together with blutak.
Then there's Petrie.

Priddis is a good SCer but with Mitchell there now, no NicNat, you can get Fyfe for the same price, plus he did have back surgery but is already back into a full preseason.

I agree that Giles will ruck but i guess the question is what kind of scores will he produce. He's not a dominant tap ruckman and around the ground he's nothing special. Supercoach is not favourable to ruck's that can't get either a lot of hitouts to advantage or a lot of ball. Essentially my worry is he will score 60-80 range. Whilst oppositions will have Gawn/Goldstein/Grundy etc scoring 100-120.

The other thing is - you will ultimately have to upgrade him (both for scoring potential and returning players) and since you already have Sandilands that probably means you'll need to spend 2 trades on rucks during the season (I have Sandi too I think he's worth it).

Yes I was planning at least 1 of the 2 ruck upgrades during the byes, the other earlier with the order of the upgrades depending on how Giles and Sandi go. The benefit is that I get to see which Rucks look the goods during the early part of the year. History shows that rucks vary massively in performance from year to year and set 'n forget assumes you guess correctly from the start as to who is having a big year.

For what it's worth I think Giles will surprise a lot of people. WCE have literally no alternative so he'll have a big load to carry. I don't really see that much issue with the trades either. 30 is easily enough if you have discipline.

Can't agree with this. 30 trades is easily enough. And Giles is more likely to average in the 80-85 range.

I have no idea what is bound to happen. Super conservatively if you start with 13 keepers and use 2 trades to upgrade a rookie or midpricer to a premo (1 up 1 down), 18 trades gives you a full premo squad of 22 and leaves (for arguments sake) 10 trades for injuries and 2 for corrections. The only way you run out is if you trade to cover 1 or 2 week injuries and even then you would need to be incredibly unlucky.

Priddis up and down a lot, I would pick him up late after Nut Nut comes back. There are tons of stud mids with way better haircuts waiting to be selected in my start team ahead of Priddis (same with Selwood, but haircut is okay).

Its simply there is so muchhhh value in the mids this season

You could make the argument that the premo rucks are underpriced given there will be no 3rd man up sharking hitouts this year. Set & forget line for me.
