How many decent cows do we think have a good chance of lining up R1? I won't pick anyone who isn't named R1 (e.g. Petracca idling away on the bench for way too long)

For last season's cheaper rookies who played R1 and went 60+ in the NAB (2+ games):
Tippa + Brown + Davis + Dunkley + Hewett + McCarthy + Adams + Menaspew = 8

Then we had 2 more expensive rookies that were pretty much seen as must have (Weitering, Mills), some people picked other ones e.g. Oliver or Parish.

Rest of the starting cows had AFL experience e.g. Dea, Kerridge, Libba, Wells, BenKen.

This year I am guessing numbers will be similar in each category e.g.
cheap rookies = I will budget 9 since it was a strong draft
$$ rookies = I guess 2 of them will look like scoring enough to be worth the price. Hope they are not mid only because mid is jam packed.
other cows = Myers, Swallow, Sandi, Black

It's tempting to max out on rookies to afford tons of premo's but I will stick to this template to avoid major re-work when R1 lineups drop.

Mills and Weitering weren't must haves at all. If you're spending that much on a rookie you'd at least want them to be DPP imo.
There's no point trying to figure out who's going to be playing round 1atm, still a long way from round 1.

I usually just pick my premos then chuck in some more expensive rookies so if worst comes to worst it easier scrounge up extra funds through them then it is to re-structure you're premos to fit in a few more expensive rookies.

not seeing any love for Bob Murphy round here....super cheap for a proven scorer!
is his roll to change? Has he not fully recovered from his leg?
I know he's getting on but he can still play the game and in the Doggies lineup I can see good scores on the horizon. He's still their General down back!
Rest the only possible issue...

Name one player ever in the history of the game that has returned from a knee and averaged the same?

So he did his knee the year before did he?
Bit irrelevant otherwise.

Only one I can think of is Eric Mackenzie last year but he still didn't play every game but averaged about the same as pre knee.

Murphys a gun but he was talked out of retirement, hes over 30, plays at etihad etc.

Hi legends. Another day another draft. Any criticism welcome. Some very good looking teams taking shape in here

Your forward line only has 1 proven premo, bit risky. Other than that it's a decent start.

At under 400k he's gotta be worth the risk.

$29K remaining.
Not going down the Sandilands road.
Was always picking Bont and him having lots of early games a good VC option.
If Beams falls over, Heeney the likely one to come in.

Maybe but if there's playing rookies in the backline I'd rather take a risk on a young mid in my FWD line like Henney, Touk or Caddy over a senior coming back from a knee.

why the dislike or discontent with people picking Hartlett?

has averaged 90s since 2011 and went 101 in 2015. 16 was hampered by injury but he will be back bigger than ever in 2017
Spot the Port Adelaide supporter

Get on Jack Watts - has played well now and then and was hampered by a shit haircut but he will be back bigger than ever in 2017

there is a genuine case to pick Hartlett despite your fruitless attempt to make a joke out of it.

he averaged 101 in 2015, nothing stopping him from averaging that again. at 423k, he is a bargain

Lenny Hayes was the exact same situation as Bob.

Version 2

B: Laird, Hartlett, Murphy, Thurlow, McGrath, Keeffe (Hibberd, Collins)
C: Dangerfield, Pendles, Kennedy, Bont, Fyfe, Heppell, Beams, Powell-Pepper (Myers, Mutch, Freeman)
R: Gawn, Sandilands (Strnadica)
F: McRae, Heeney, Ryder, Hoskin-Elliot, Schoenmakers, Bolton (Rioli, Eddy)

Made a few changes. Loaded up on mids!

he's coming back from a knee and his price show's that...Huge value there!
He has been a consistent player most of his career....the Knee wont take away work rate.
he has always been the guy they want to have the ball coming out of defense. They have other options now I know but I think he will still be the main guy clearing defense or being part of the play at least.
I don't see how he's in a worse class than others like Sandilands who has had knee troubles, and for a ruckman that can really hurt your game...yet he's in most teams you see...and Fyfe had a broken leg!....I'll back him in.

I jumped on Libba last year and while he wasn't at his best...he was more than serviceable.he ended up as a perfect M9.

..I'm not sold on Murphy yet, but its way too early to be writing him off!
let's see how the NAB goes for him. We'll know how he's traveling then...:thumbsu:
