Team for Round 1 2024

After the trade period, round 1 I would go with the side who brought home the cup with only the 2 obvious tweaks.
McStay in for Frampton forward.
Schultz in for Ginnivan.

B - Quaynor Moore Howe
HB - Maynard Murphy Crisp
C - J.Daicos DeGoey Sidebottom
HF - McCreery McStay Hill
F - Elliott Mihocek Schultz
R - Cox Mitchell N.Daicos
INT - Pendlebury Cameron WHE Lipinski Markov

Pies by 8 goals.

B. IQ - Murphy - Maynard
HB. Crisp - Moore - Howe
C. Josh - Nick - Steele
HF. Hill - McStay - Beau
F. Shultz - Checkers - Elliott
R. Cox - Jordy - Titch
Int - Pendles - WHE - Fin - Cameron
Sub - Lippa

Transitions during season.
Elliot - Harrison/Reef
Steele - Allen
Mitchell - Fin

B: Maynard Murphy Howe
HB: IQ Moore Marcov
C: Jaicos Mitchell Sidey
HF: Schultz Mihocek Hill
F:Elliot McStay McCreery
Foll: Cameron, Naicos, De Goey
Int: Cox, Crisp, WHE, Pendles
Sub: Lipinski

Whats great is our depth is very balanced now in every position with 2 players to cover
Key back depth, Frampton & Dean
General back depth: Nobel & Ryan
Mid depth: McCrae, Allan, Carmichael
General forward: Harrison, Richards
Key forward depth: Johnson, Krueger
Ruch depth: Begg, Stene (Kruger as forward/Ruck)
Utility depth: Frampton, Kelly

We'll average 2-3 outs a game, so most of the list will get a turn of playing, just like in 2023. And there will be the 2-3 surprise packets that have break out years to cement a spot. Hoping its McInnes, McCrae, Ryan, and wouldnt mind a consistently health Krueger forcing his way in as a reliable Forward/Ruck

while this "tool" on the vfl site isnt the be-all and end-all.....it's an indication of where Allen is at the moment....and he might be pining for his dada by the end of next season...

No, it isn't an indication of anything except his fantasy scores

well i'm not dreaming about him....so that must mean something. On a serious note, he probably should get a game next year to wet his appetite but it might be a slow road
We've contracted him until 2026, so I don't think we're in a desperate hurry. Seem quite high on him

B: 3 Quaynor 28 Murphy 38 Howe
HB: 4 Maynard 30 Moore 25 Crisp
C: 7 J.Daicos 6 Mitchell 22 Sidebottom

Contracts dont mean too much these days. Next year things might stay much the same and it will happen the following year but the end of pendles will be definitive.

Think our biggest area for improvement in 2024 will be the Nick and Jordy midfield duo. Didn’t play a lot together in 2023 in midfield. Be interesting how it works

And how they balance it out with Pendles Titch Cridp and co

And does Fin get a start in a tagging role

B: Howe, Murphy, Quaynor
HB: Crisp, Moore, Maynard
M: J Daicos, Pendlebury, Sidebottom
HF: Shultz, Mihocek, De Goey
F: Elliott, McStay, Hill
Foll: Cameron, N Daicos, Mitchell
Int: Noble, Lipinski, McCreery, Johnson
Sub: WHE
Eme: Frampton, Markov, Cox

I would love to see a more forward split from JDG, possibly 60/40 where he is still more of a mid, but drifts forward to add firepower.

On the contrast, Lipinski needs to be given more time in the middle, put him in his natural position. The loss of Adams as well as Crisp going to HB, and De Goey playing more forward, he should get more time.

Ash is Best 22. They could go Cox but i prefer to play Ash, he can enhance the forward line even further, which was our clear weakness last year. This means McStay probably is our 2nd ruck, which honestly i am fine with.

WHE is the sub, although this could be switched for Markov, but I prefer Will's flexibility, able to play back, forward, or wing.

Frampton to cover Key Defensive depth, Markov as the best small outside of the team, Cox to be depth for Ruck and Key Forward.

Out of the rest of the list, I think Macrae is the clear standout. If he puts in a big preseason, he could make his way into at least the squad. McInnes, Kreuger, and Carmichael are others of note. Allan/HH/Ryan are all expected to be seen again next season as they continue to develop into future best 22 players.

Lets flip this a bit...

What will our team look like 2024 week 1 finals?

Who will be the ins vs outs from GF day?
To give a picture on how things can change

2010 grand final replay side:

B: Nick Maxwell ~ Nathan Brown ~ Alan Toovey
HB: Heritier Lumumba ~ Ben Reid ~ Heath Shaw

M: Sharrod Wellingham ~ Dane Swan ~ Ben Johnson
R: Darren Jolly ~ Scott Pendlebury ~ Dale Thomas

HF: Alan Didak ~ Travis Cloke ~ Luke Ball
F: Dayne Beams ~ Chris Dawes ~ Steele Sidebottom

I/C: Jarryd Blair ~ Brent Macaffer ~ Tyson Goldsack ~ Leigh Brown

2011 qualifying final side:

B: Nick Maxwell ~ Chris Tarrant ~ Alan Toovey
HB: Leon Davis ~ Tyson Goldsack ~ Heath Shaw

M: Sharrod Wellingham ~ Luke Ball ~ Ben Johnson
R: Darren Jolly ~ Scott Pendlebury ~ Dane Swan

HF: Alan Didak ~ Travis Cloke ~ Steele Sidebottom
F: Dayne Beams ~ Chris Dawes ~ Andrew Krakouer

I/C: Jarryd Blair ~ Heritier Lumumba ~ Leigh Brown
Sub: Alex Fasolo

Changes from those sides:

In: Davis, Tarrant, Krakouer, Fasolo
Out: Thomas, Reid, Macaffer, Brown

Thomas missed through suspension and Reid through injury eventually replacing Fasolo and Goldsack for the prelim. Didak was dropped to the sub but made in back into the 21 for the GF after Beams pulled out and Fasolo was recalled to the sub.
