Team of Quarter Century (2000 - 2024)

obviously we're not going to see eye to eye about Graham's quality or otherwise - and fair enough - but I should point out that the thread title is 2000-24, and all of the New Millennium fanfare was definitely at the end of 1999, not the end of 2000. Maybe you are technically correct about when to count a millennium, but it's not the popular understanding of it.
The 21st century started in 2001. There's not really any getting around that. Graham's 4 seasons have him around 40th-50th this century in my book. Can agree to disagree from there.

The thread title makes it very clear what timeframe this team refers to.

They literally define the timeframe (2000-2024) in the thread title.

The thread title could say 1995-2020 and it would still be as wrong.
Where in the opening post or the thread title does it make any reference to the millennium?

All it says is team of quarter century. That could be any 25 year period of time.

We could pick 1991 to 2015 and call it team of quarter century.

You have made an assumption that this team somehow relates to the current millennium. A wrong assumption.

I see - a rolling quarter rather than dividing each century into quarters. Fair enough.

I'll base my list off 2000-2024 then and make zero changes, because as you said, Graham doesn't go close. In fact nobody's 2000 season would push them on or off this team. None of Graham's 90s career would count.

At the end of this season I will post a revised quarter century list. Please let me know if this is satisfactory so we can close this fascinating aspect of the discussion.

EDIT - post deleted by me. Not needed and doesn’t add to the discussion

Here is the Herald Sun’s Cats team:

GEELONG

best TEAM 2000-24

B: Darren Milburn, Matthew Scarlett, Tom Harley

HB: Corey Enright, Harry Taylor, Tom Stewart

C: Jimmy Bartel, Joel Corey, Cam Guthrie

HF: Steve Johnson, Jeremy Cameron, Gary Ablett

F: Tyson Stengle, Tom Hawkins, Paul Chapman

FOLL: Brad Ottens, Patrick Dangerfield, Joel Selwood

INT: Cameron Ling, Mark Blicavs, James Kelly, Andrew Mackie, Steven King. COACH: Mark Thompson

Thoughts? I’m inclined to swap Chris Scott as coach for Bomber. 2 premierships each, but longevity on Scott’s side.

Also, no Duncan. Do we need Steven King as backup ruckman with Blicavs and Hawkins in team?

Cam Guthrie out, Holmes to a wing.

I wouldn't have Duncan in the side and Stengle is 100% the right call.

I'd have Blicavs, Ling, Tim Kelly, Cam Mooney and Mackie on the bench.

To join in the broader discussion, I wouldn't have Ben Graham anywhere near this team.

Agree with all except Cam Guthrie. Dual B&F including in a premiership year. We forget how good he became after Kelly left because of recent injury

We pretty much lost the premiership when Holmes tweaked his hammy in the pf last year. I can't remember Guthrie ever being that vital to our side.

It took Guthrie a decade to become an A grader. It took Holmes 3 years. Apart from longevity I think Holmes has him covered.

I disagree with this, Guthrie became an A-grader in 2016.

Guthrie wasn't as vital because we had Dangerwood playing in the exact same role.
