Anyone bar this big sook!!
Just off the top of my head Jordan Lewis is twice the player of Wallet!
There's at least another team off 22 players who get a gig before that high voiced douche!
Get the feeling I don't like or rate him - you're 100 correct!

Burgoyne will be in the Hawks best team of all-time due to his finals record and long career span.

Burgoyne Hodge S Mitchell almost certain

Roughy, Rioli, Franklin, possibles. Roughy through Versatility, Franklin one of the best flankers ever, Rioli is Just Rioli

Lewis, Crawford, Lake, Birch, Gibson probably unlucky

I would have Lake in the Hawks best 22 of all-time. What he did during that three year span was incredible.

If Paul Salmon can make the team, then so should Lake who had a bigger impact in my opinion. He was the glue that held that defence up during the three-peat.

3 Premierships, norm smith medal, 83% winning record.
Didn't play 100 games.

(of course this may have already been addressed.

Burgoyne Jarman Roughead Greene

Good team but I'd have Russell Greene over Andy Collins.

Unlucky. Don Scott twilight of his career
Greg Dear very good at ground level
David Hale, like Salmon very tall ruck well and ability to drift forward for a mark and goal.
Jordan Lewis just can't squeeze him in.
Brad Hill played only 95 games.
Kelvin Moore the best backman in the 1970's, Langford's long tender gives him the nod.

Great thread:

Here are my certainties:

Gibson Langford Ayres
Burgoyne Mew Hodge
Dipper S. Mitchell Pritchard
Bucky Dermie Buddy
Bruest Dunstall Rioli
Foll: Platten
I/C , Jarman, Crawford,

I really can't decide on the last 4 spots.

It doesn't feel right putting Mathews, Knights, Tuck in the team.

I never saw Moore play.

It is hard to imagine a better FB than Langers - imo he could/should have won the 1986 Norm Smith (though Ayres was a very worthy winner).

Matthews was a small forward in this period and was still a force based on these stats.

81-48 goals
82-74 goals
83-79 goals
84-77 goals
85-56 goals

Moore’s best era for the club was the 70’s and was a star. This exercise is from 1980-2020.

So for this exercise, Langford gets the nod
and that’s why Knights and Moore miss out.

You're showing your age.

Matthews: Tough, elusive, kick both feet, great hands & dirty.
Knights: The best aerialist in the business.
Tuck; Run all day, great hands and great kick. Never beaten.

I think you misunderstood me/i wasn't clear.

They pick themselves in any team from 1925 to the present.

I think the exercise is more interesting if you leave them out.

(having said that, did you really feel the need to sell me on Mathews, Tuck Knights?).

Been watching a lot of old Hawthorn games on Fox and 7Mate. I noticed the following...
Salmon and Lewis were much better players than I remembered.
Langford made a lot of mistakes and gave away too many free kicks. Andy Collins was very sloppy.
Still, this is my team
Ayres Langford Gibson
Birchall Mew Hodge
Pritchard S Mitchell Dipper
Jarman Brereton Frankiln
Matthews Dunstall Buckenara
Salmon Crawford Platten
Tuck Lewis Rioli Hall (97 games so if I can’t have him then Burgoyne, or Roughie if we need a second ruck)

I loved Pritch but think Smith is already his equal if you wanted a pure winger.

Pritch

211 games
94 goals

Smith

161 goals
