C. Mackay Reilly Tambling
HF. Dangerfield Walker Knights
F. Douglas Tippett Porplyzia
1R. Jacobs Thompson Vince
IC. McKernan Sloane Martin
Sub. Jaensch/Henderson/Symes

Stevens likely to be included somewhere in the 18 however.

:thumbsu::thumbsu:

I'd like to see Callinan get a go right from the outset though.

Also excited about Tambling. Just the simple act of taking him out of yellow and black should improve his game markedly.

Carl, I've added an asterix next to Walker's name, for when he's eventually dropped. For somebody harder working. Who can't kick or handpass. But is great on the track.

Team for round 1

Attack is the object from day one!!!!

Lot of interesting teams. Look an even group. We lack A graders though. For us to have a good year we need a number of the potential A graders to make the transition

The 2010 flops Vince, Porps, Knights, Otten (latter 2 from injury)

The up and comers Tippett, Danger, Walker

Davis and Sloane bit young yet, maybe in time

We start round 1 with 1 former All Australian player

It's a pity they don't keep score at training. We would have won many, many premierships.

Spot on. That was what was so disappointing about 2010. Barely anyone went up a level, except Douglas. Most stagnated or went backwards.

You look at our list and there are a heap of 19-22 year olds to be excited about but it's a long way from "look like they will be" to "are."

B: Johncock, Rutten, Stevens
HB: Tambling, Davis, Doughty

I think we might go with one ruckman, Tippett & Stevens pinch hitting.

Surely after the last two seasons when we played one ruckman and it just didn't work. We won strings of games when we played 2 rucks and Tippett.

Even with the 3 interchange we need to have a 2nd ruck from either Sellar, McKernan, Maric or Moran to be mobile and play up forward or back. Stevo is many things but a back up ruckman he aint. Tippett has to stay in the forward line. Jacobs would have to have an absolute smashing PS and NAB cup to be No1. ruck by round 1. Maybe by round 12.

I won't hazard a guess as to the makeup of our team come round 1--too many variables. Points for couage to those that have.
A lot of people have Martin out of the Round 1 side. I will make one prediction--that 2011 will see this bloke become an elite midfielder. He oozes X-Factor.

I agree re the ruckman point - unfortunately that means Tippett rucking - hopefully only in the forward line. I worry about his mobility around the ground.

I totally agree.

I think we will just push Jacobs to ruck 80% of the game, he has outstanding endurance, Tippett ruck when the ball is in the forward 50, and ruck only for a brief stint in the middle of the quarter. Last year I was one of the most vocal for playing Tippett full-time in the forward 50. However that was largely because we were only playing with 2 tall forwards and Tippett clearly wasn't 100% confident with his knees. In addition, the new rule means that we have much less midfield options, so the luxury of having a 2nd ruckman is gone. I do agree that ideally Sellar, McKernan, Moran or Maric need to step up, I just don't know if that'll happen Rd 1. I'll be very happy to be proven wrong and have Tippett at FF all the time.

For mine, he's no doubt one of the toughest to leave out, along with Jaensch and agree that there's a good chance that he will develop into a very good player throughout 2011. Certainly one I look forward to watching.

Agreed, I just hope he gets his opportunity early. Has loads of upside compaired to the likes of Symes, Cook, etc. Just not sure who gets left out to give him his chance.

Question: Would our B & F winner get a game at Collingwood, Geelong or St Kilda?

Yep... easy

2010 ave
12.5 kicks 8.9 handballs 4.9 marks, 0.8 goal and 3.5 tackles per game

Douglas had a great season last year... if he improves again...
which seems quite likely... he'll be around the mark for another jacket...
and good luck to him too...

Go Crows...

I think way too many posters have simply forgotten how impressive Martin & Otten were in 2009 when our team was actually winning games. Staggering.

Otten's been named in pretty much every single R1 team listed so far.

I don't think anyone's underestimating Martin either. It's just that you can't fit 26 players into a team of 22. He's one of the unlucky ones who just have a few players ahead of him. I have no doubt that injuries will ensure he gets plenty of opportunities in 2011.

The players in the 15-28 don't seem to be overwhealmingly vast in their positions in the team.

The hope is that this will drive competition on positions.

If it weren't for an extended injury list, guys like Jaensch may have not gotten a game, Hendo, Martin etc.

A lot comes down to position as well, but it seems that competition all over the park is relitively fierce, especially at small forward, where Jacky and Petrenko will compete.

If that is our rabbit out of the hat for 2011, then we are well and truly rooted.
2nd that!!!:D

Martin, Jaensch, Young, Tahlia, Smack etc will all get their chances this year. Even if we don't have as many injuries as last season they will all get games. Who knows what will happen between now and round 1. Nothing hopefully:D, but the good thing is there are plenty in the wings wating for injury or form to give them a go.

It's a pretty damning stat.

Question: Would our B & F winner get a game at Collingwood, Geelong or St Kilda?

IMO there would be quite a few of our players that would get a game at the Saints.....

great credit to the Saints for making the 2010 GF, however I believe that they were eventually exposed for their lack of depth across the field... too reliant on too few
