What does that mean exactly? They are both obviously not walk up starters because both have spent time in the 2s. Wojcinski will need to set the world on fire to be a chance... highly unlikely we'll see him again in '08.

Personally, additional to the changes made this week... I'd bring in Kelly for Varcoe and be done with it.

I don't doubt either of them, they are both good players but missing so much football, I don't think Wojcinski can contribute as much as, say, Prismall in the finals.

Gamble will always provide a better option up forward than Rooke who seems to be thrown where there's room at the moment and isn't contributing enough.

Football is not as complex as its sometimes made out and if someone can explain to me how Rooke is currently important to our structure I would be very interested to hear it.

Like all things in life it comes down to points of difference.
Geelong regardless of having a few champions in its team is so good because it really embraces the team ethic.
If you have a team of similar players (similar size playing style etc) you only have limited options.
Wojcinski and Rooke although well down the list in terms of out and out ability do have some great "points of difference"
Wojcinski has super speed and takes the opposition on, add a little bit of unpredictibility.

Rooke is super tough and genuinely frightens some opposition players (don't underestimate this aspect). his tackling is severe and he has a much better skill level than most people give him credit for.

These two bring talents to the "Team" that are not unique to the side however they do it at a level higher than most.

It means exactly what it says - they are obviously given specific roles and have attributes considered important to how the team works. Wojac - speed to burn, Rooke - tag, tackle, upset.

If he's fit? He played in the VFL last week and is named as 4th emergency this week, therefore will play again in the VFL this week. He wouldn't be playing if he wasn't fit... plain and simple.

His run is great to watch and a good advantage to the team, although at the moment Prismal has the poise and looks harder in at the contests, and I think he really gels well with the other mid fielders better. Bringing in underdone players into finals games is a rare occurance... for good reason. How much money do you want to lose?

Good changes although I'm surprised Varcoe survived and not Byrnes. I'd think he, Prismall and possibly Taylor would be the possible outs when Kelly and Rooke come back in. Not looking good for Wojak.

Yeah "Good comeback Pottsy" whats the number of touches got to do with a players intimidation factor. "be more specific" I think I was but as you are obviously using this because you cannot come up with a better response I choose to ignore it.
If you can't have a reasonable debate then forget it.

GEELONG football manager Neil Balme says his club won’t rush back David Wojcinski, instead waiting until the lightning-quick defender is at full fitness before testing his achilles injury.

Wojcinski appears to be at least another week away as he struggles to overcome the problem, one of few concerns for Mark Thompson’s men, who are three games clear on top of the AFL ladder after 19 rounds.

The Cats don’t expect the injury to hamper the 27-year-old’s ability to hit top speed once he overcomes the complaint.

However it appears the pacy Cat might be racing the clock to make it back to senior football before the finals after Balme confirmed Wojcinski was likely to miss at least one more week – with a probable return to footy then coming through the VFL.

“He’s still a touch sore but those things sometimes are a little bit slow,” Balme said on Tuesday.

“Obviously we’re keen to play him because he’s in our best side but whether he’s right this week I’d probably doubt it.

“I don’t know that playing VFL is necessarily what we’re going to do, it depends on how he’s able to go.

“He mightn’t be able to play a full game so it may be necessary to bring him back through there but he’s no guarantee of being right this week.”

Wojcinski has missed four weeks with the injury.

In round 21 2008: Byrnes - a fringe player once part of the best 22 who had struggled to find a place in the senior list in 2008.

I think Byrnes will be moved off the list at the end of the year regardless of whether he plays in the finals or not. He'll be picked up somewhere else, and good on him.

One is measurable, the other isn't. Intimidation factor is in YOUR head, not in our opponents.. They're too professional.

Football is not all about stats. Don't see what's so hard to understand about that. Who do think is blocking for Ablett a lot of the time he is able to charge away with the ball?

I didn't say it was, but it allows us to apply tangeable criticism to a player's performance. I was merely replying to a post by stating that if Rooke's opponents where so intimidated, why doesn't he get near the ball?

So his role is to block for Ablett? hmmm yep.

Despite winning we all know we weren't playing that well early in the year (Rooke missed most of it) and he was out when we were hopelessly out played by Collingwood.

Rooke played rounds 3,4,5,7 and 8, we played the pies round 9 so I don't think he missed most of it. He was out against Collingwood, yeah, so? He played in the PF last year against Collingwood and was terrible.

He is a no fuss 'grunt' player.

You can wrap as much spin around it as you like but fact is, Rooke is having very little influence on games at the moment.

Gamble is as hard-at-it as Rooke but brings more to a forward line, Prismal is a better option in the midfield and either Wojo or Taylor in the backline.

Ablett should have gone to Hale on the weekend, he's our best player, yet we didn't use him to shut down the opposition forward. Terrible coaching.

Hunt is good in defense, we should have used him. Despite the fact he's over 20cm shorter then Hale.

Harley is about to be named in the All-Australian squad having played this year and last as a small defender.

If this is true it is not deserved, as with Mooneys selection last year... not selected on pure individual perfromance, blown up due to the teams perfromance. Reiwoldt was twice the player Mooney was in '07, I'm still shocked that he got selected an Ottens didn't. Harley takes the 3rd or 4th best forward and reaps the benefits of not needing to do much at all while our side whipes the floor with teams every week. Very little pressure at all involved in his role in the side. Freedom to go 3rd man at pretty much any contest he likes. He would get so many shreds ripped off him in a weak side it wouldn't be funny!

He has taken name forwards in past years but shrugs it now... Leaves it for young Taylor to cop the bad press... stuff skipper. If they're gonna hand AA selection to him this year its a total disgrace. If anything, he should have been selected in '04 when our side actually faught hard to win games and his role had severe importance / played on name forwards... he lives in the shadows now.

Small defender he is not, a loose defender he is. A loose defender who happens to be a good mark but probably the slowest by foot / worst disposer of the football in the team... Possibly the only player in our side who continuely still goes sideways and backwards with disposal because he is not confident and very average in that area.
