Hey guys just want to know what sort of team you will be lining up to play the tigers. Just want to know who is injured and who is having a good preseason to who you might play in positions.

Cheers

the intra club match should tell us a fair bit more.

we can speculate on which rookies will get a gig however if they cant get a kick in the intra club, i doubt they'd get a game next week.

all that aside I'll have a crack at a team, blindly and unaware of injuries or player form, just b/c its late in the day and i cbf doing otherwise:

from memory, there are 6 on the bench in wizard cup arent there?

B: Jacobs Roughead Dawson
CHB: Brown Croad Smith
C: Hodge Everitt Clarke
CHF: Boyle Barker Franklin
FF: Dixon Williams Miller
Foll: Lewis Bateman Vanders

Interchange:
Young, Taylor, Brennan, Ladson, Guerra, Murphy,

Rest: Thurgood, Mitchell, Crawford, Osborne, Sewell, Campbell

The way i fugure it, AC needs to quickly blood Dawson and Boyle. We are in desperate need of KPPs still. Similarly Murphy as a utility will be very handy early on. Guerra needs to get a game to see how he gels into the side. We need to persist with the development of Young, Tails and Brennan althouth Brennan may get droped for Birchall.

Thurgoods had a shoulder job so rest him. Mitch is still in recovery mode. Preserve him till fitness is 110%. Crawf doesnt need practise matches. Let him come on from rd 1 onwards, similar to the Hird resting strategy. Obsorne leave out because we've seen what he's capable of. Leaving him in stops up from giving one of Murphy / Dawson / Boyle a go. All 3 will be more important to the side longer term than Ossie. Its his experience that keeps him in the top 18 at present but not for ever. Sewell is a tagger with limited improvement in him. AC will keep him honest and by the sidelines for a rd 1 tagging role. As NAB cup is a bit of an experiment, AC will opt to go without at use Clarke instead as a tagger. Campbell will need to play some matches and prove his form till he gets a senior game. Young will get a gig definitely. With a pre-season under his belt, we will be looking for some improvement in him.

The rest is pretty straight forward however I included Miller in that squad even though his form doesn't always warrant it. Remember his 4 goals against Richmond last time they met. AC desperately needs him to find consistency and bring us some pace, inside 50s and crumbing in the forward line.

I'd hope we'll play both Gilham and Kane and judge who is best suited to make the step up fron the rookie list early on.

Gilham i can understand a use for given his height can play possibly as a key defender or utility but Kane I still dont understand. Surely at 22 there isnt much improvement left in him.

Kane is 183cm and plays where? back pocket? there's no room for him in the midfield and there certainly wont be in future.

We already have Ossie and Brown as small defenders and a plethora of half back flankers or young midfielders to start out on a HBF.

Why have we put Kane on the rookie list? Does he need pocket money? Am I missing something?

Is there any chance we could give Birchall, Ellis or Bailey a run?
What about Little also?

I think all those kids would benefit playing the 1st game of the NAB Cup in front of a bigger crowd. Just to get a feel and experience what the big times all about. I probably wouldn't play all 4 at once though.

ROFL...LMAO....Sorry to be so blunt, but i only just picked myself up off the floor! I know its a mistake, but you have Jordan Lewis in the RUCK!!!
Everitt is not a centerman, Boyle at 195cm would be the tallest HF flanker of all time and Lewis wouldn't win to many tapouts!
Seriously though, Barker won't be risked and Hodge won't play on the wing. Should look something like this:

B: Jacobs - Roughead - Dawson
CHB: Brown - Croad - Smith
C: Vaners - Lewis - Brennan
CHF: Clarke - Boyle - Franklin
FF: Dixon - Williams - Miller
Foll: Everitt - Bateman - Hodge

As Grendel says too hard to know at this stage, but I'm bored so here's a team I'd like to see with a good mix of experience to enable we go for a win, plus seeing some new faces.

Brown .......... Croad ............ Jaccobs

Gilham ....... ..Roughead .............. Smith

Osborne ........ ..Hodge .............. Young

Franklin .......... Barker ............ Dixon

Williams ........... Boyle .......... Crawford

Everitt, Lewis, Bateman

Int: Murphy, Birchall, Little, Kane, Bailey, Cambell

Definately Birchall IMO. Bailey outside chance, I'd like to see him get a go now. Not sure on Ellis because of his size.

We'll want to win as well, and also really want to try a few things out. It'll be tough for AC to balance the two, probably give guys a chance that he would expect to stand up this year before the youngsters, i.e osborne on the wing, boyle up forward, give Kane a run, try Gilham out, no point in drafting him if we aren't going to play him because he's prove at state level.

So first years might find it hard to get a game.

I'd like a serious go at the Tigers as well as seeing what some of the younger guys can produce, so I'd like to see something close to this-

3} Bailey, Taylor, Everitt split time in ruck
2} with Mitchell & Lewis on the ball
7} Osbourne, Birchall, Dawson, Jacobs, Croad, Smith, Sewell in defense
4} Bateman, Hodge, Ladson & Clarke in the center
4} Franklin, Roughead, Vandenberg, & Tuck @ HF
4} Dixon, Williams, Miller & Murphy as Forwards
---
24} total

What I'd just as soon not see-

Crawford - save him for games that count
Brown - let him get 100 %
Barker - give him another week

But in reality, coaches know what they need to see at this point, so we might as well throw darts blindfolded at pictures on a page as predict a full lineup for first NAB Cup game. Darts might be more accurate.

Like your line up and ideas there Lonestar :)

For me the main thing will be the spine. The rest, especially in NAB is just fillers with a mixture of new and old.

FB: Dawson

CHB: Croad

R: Everitt/Taylor/Campbell & now Bailey after Fridays performance.

CHF: Franklin

FF: Roughead

With the exception of FB that is a GOLD spine and bodes well for our future.

The only weakness is FB. I believe AC is going with the option if we kick more goals than they do, even if they kick a lot, we still win & quality around HB and last line of defence, Batemans, Smiths, Hodges, Browns etc.

Also, if Dowler recovers and gets his chance on the field and latter in the season is ready, he goes FF and move Roughead to FB.

To me the only other problem will be Everitt in the ruck. If he can stick around another 2 years, continue to play well and they develop Bailey, we will have a monster spine for years to come, dare I say it, a Grand Final winning unit.

Be reading some of the intra club match reviews and thought id have a shot:

FB: Kane Dawson Jacobs
HB: Ladson Croad Murphy
C: Bateman Lewis Young
HF: Dixon Franklin Williams
F: Taylor Roughead Miller
Fol: Everitt Hodge, Smith
Int: Mitchell, Vanders, Guerra, Osbourne, Campbell, Little

-Assuming Barks,Crawf and Brown rested, with Mitchell only getting limited game time as he comes back from injury.
-Would think both campbell and Taylor to play to compete for 2nd ruck spot. (until bailey later in the season)
-give kane shot in backline, if fails osbourne as back up. Ladson to provide run off hb and murphy to get his chance to show his skills, training reports have said he looks a lot fitter this year also good size to take 3rd tall if needed.
-Backline is v inexpiernecd on paper but if croad takes richo other forwards shouldnt provide too much trouble. Dawson needs to be fastracked as we are short of a KP backman. Lots of run from backline though
-Not having barker leaves a big hole at chf, but all 3 hf should be good marking targets, will be interesting to see if AC leaves willo further up the ground as in the intra club.
-Roughie mostly leading FF, Taylor parked in square (swap with everitt) with miller crumbing. Should definitely strech tiger defence and Talyor has shown that can take a grab against smaller oppenent (eg ted richards v essendon)
From reports dont think any first year players have demanded a spot although birchall, tuck and bailey a chance. Still lot of 2nd year players in team.

Overall think not a bad mix of old and new and if fwd line clicks definite chance of kicking winning score.

B: Osborne Roughead Jacobs
HB:Lewis Croad Smith
C:Young Mitchell Bateman
HF: Franklin Boyle Ladson
F: Dixon Williams Miller
R: Everitt Hodge Crawford
I/C: Bailey, Dawson, Murphy, Birchall, Vandenburg, Clarke

Rest: Thurgood, Brown, Barker, Campbell, Sewell (and whoever else I've forgotten).
* Am not averse to resting another senior player, or someone returning from injury, to give Tuck a run either.

If Wallet is going to play "Elbows" Stafford as full forward and "Dummy spitter" Richo at CHF,
Dawson wouldnt be able to hold him.

It would be a good chance to play Campbell at full back

Croad on Richo at CHF

Roughead could be tried early on Richo and would depend if AC wants to teach him a lesson or win the match.
Switch Roughhead to play in the foward line .
Full forward is a great idea

See your point, but what i really meant was the mobility factor! I think that Boyle and Buddy are similar heights but Buddy is very mobile and quick for a tall player. He plays more like a winger than key position player at this stage of his career. Sort of like Langford who started his career on a wing for Hawthorn!

Right!, and Franklin at HF at 196cm wouldn't be the tallest HFF of all time.
Also... Croad will not start on Richardson. Who is Vaners?

Hawthorn used to put everyone on the wing to start their career.

Jarman, Ablett, Kennedy to name a few.
