FOLL: Gardiner, Kerr, Fletcher

I'm surprised Glass is out.

I would guess that Green, Sampi and Humm are going out

Hmm.
Carroll = Worsfold's lovechild? Very surprised to see him still there- was pretty dreadful vs Adelaide, whereas Glass was okay.

Meanwhile, Paul Johnson is a surprise inclusion. I hope he isn't just swapped for Cox- ideally, I'd like Gardiner/Cox playing purely in the ruck, and PJ as a FF/CHF type- so lets assume a straight swap for Glass, with PJ freeing up Jako to play back as another tall defender if we need one.

As for the others, Green, Humm and Read..
Read deserves a game, Green may be the guy for Medhurst. Braun for Read, and then what?

this is directly off the official west coast eagles afl website: -

The squad: B: Banfield, McIntosh, Morrison. HB: Hunter, Carroll, Chick. C: Judd, Cousins, Embley. HF: Wirrpunda, Jakovich, Jones. F: Cox, Haynes, Phil Matera. R: Gardiner, Fletcher, Kerr. Int: Read, Green, Braun, Sampi, Wilson, Humm, Wooden.

so we are getting conflicting reports here, as this squad has wilson in and not johnson...

It's definitely Johnson in the side... not Willo.

And Cox can't be replaced by Johnson because Cox is in the 18 so will definitely be playing.

He can be dropped if he falls "mysteriously ill" on the morning of the game, no matter where he is named

I was shaking my head in disbelief when Woosh chose Carroll over Glass in round one, and I'm still doing it now.

Seriously, there must be some sort of personality clash.

Just to maximise the confusion, the Official AFL website (yes, the one that has every footy stat wrong) has the following team:

WEST COAST
B: Morrison, McIntosh, Banfield
HB: Hunter, Carroll, Chick
C: Judd, Cousins, Embley
HF: Wirrpunda, Jakovich, Jones
F: Matera, Haynes, Cox
FOLL: Gardiner, Kerr, Fletcher
I/C: (from) Green, Johnson, Read, Wooden, Braun, Sampi, Humm
IN: Green, Wilson, Read, Humm
OUT: Glass

which suggests that Wilson has come in, but Johnson is in the side.

WTF? At least Duncan Kerr's been selected.

good to seet he young guy Johnson come in as well as Read.

I dont think Humm and Green will play - its between Johnson or Sampi to get the boot.

Given that playing Sampi would give us four smalls on the bench, we'll probably play Johnson.

A guy of his height will be very hard to match up on.

Very suprised to see Glass dropped. I thoguht he did allright ,especially in the second half.

Carroll on the other hand is having another ordinary season.

I think Carroll, as I've said before, should be tried in attack while Gaspar is gone. We need a target around CHF who can deliver well.

If Carroll can take grabs, he is a good kick who will at least put it in front of the forwards.

Sampi should be left in the team for an extended period. The kid obviously has talent and seems comfortable when he gets the ball, let him get used to the pace and soon he'll be getting more touches.

Could Sampi be used in the midfield in a Kerr style role? I remember reading somewhere that with his ball skills and good footy brain he could be very good in the midfield, and with Fido in the team Woosha may very well use him there. As yet, he's never played in the middle, is he capable of it?

Yeah, thank god Duncan is in :D

On the team, well it's a tough decision who to drop from the 7 man interchange. They all have a case to play.

Johnson - it's no secret we need a tall marking forward which we have missed since Gaspar went down. He has had good WAFL form also.

Braun - midfield should be where the game is won, Braun is very good backup for when we rest Kerr, Judd or Cousins. Has played well in limited minutes in the early part of the season.

Sampi - IMO he needs more games in a row to really settle into the AFL. Has shown plenty but can he only play as a small forward or can he run through the middle. If he can run through the midfield then perhaps he would be more valuble than Braun?

Read - has shown terrific WAFL form and certainly deserved the callup. I hope he comes in as he may be very valuble helping to keep Farmer and Medhurst quiet.

Green - hasnt done much wrong IMO and would be a perfect matchup for Medhurst.

Wooden - hasnt put a foot wrong and I would be surprised if he wasnt on the field come sunday. Shut down Milne so he would be very valuble against Farmer and Medhurst, he can also run through the midfield with some effect.

Humm - Is Humm a back pocket or a midfielder? Not really sure but with Wooden, Read and Green also names I doubt he will come in.

Glad Im not making the decisions.

I think my little guy is not ready for the midfield as yet. He is still getting used to the pace of the game as well as body strength is still lacking a touch. I like him on the forward line for now, just the way he swoops on the loose ball with one hand, tosses it neatly onto his boot and slots a goal is worth paying the money to see week after week.

He has only played a handful of games, but is a legend in my book. :)

well, since he is my boy, go Johnson.

Hmmm, I'm not willing to stick my neck out and say who will be on the bench, they all have cases!

But I will say Read, he deserves it.

As for Johnson's case though. Well, we've selected a large 18, with two rucks, but Freo are quite big as well. I think Johnson should play, and actually should play most of the game. If he does. it means GArdiner can rest on the bench, not forward.

The little i have seen of Johnson, he seems quite capable down on either forward line, and although Haynes leads well (and marks well off those leads), we do need a "power" forward. And given Johnson is already Willosize, he could very well be the man.

so if Read and Johnson are on the bench, and I can't see Wooden being dropped, you do the math....

rant over
