Teammates that didn't like each other

Yea it would be interesting to know... I have a workmate who know’s or at least knew Cameron Thurley very well ( ex Roo also ) when he was in Geelong, & he told me that one day Cameron Ling was following Thurley into the club & saw him brush off two kids trying to get autographs, once inside Lingy apparently gave him an absolute verbal barrage saying something along the lines of “never again do you ignore our supporters like that”....Apparently Thurley was so taken aback he felt the need to go back outside & see the kids to say sorry and sign the autographs.

Good bloke Lingy

When I was a kid, Mum took me to a family day and since then hasn't had a positive word to say about Jason Dunstall. "arrogant pig" apparently.

I've heard Dermott say that Dunstall is a good bloke as long as you can offer him something of value

Nice way of saying he is an arrogant/self centred prick pretty much

If true good on Ling for that. Footballers need to remember their salaries come from the fans, and kids especially look up to them. They have to be good with kids and give the kids their time.

For all his faults Barry Hall was great at this. The kids loved him and he always seemed to give kids his time.

Absolutely agree, all us members are shareholders of our clubs & they simply don’t exist without us, never has that been more apparent than now through the Coronavirus. And on the kids that is dead right, they look up & idolise these guys, the players have a responsibility to give them their time. No doubt that was why Lingy was so blunt, because it was our club supporters who were also kids.

Talking about players being pricks. Out of Dermie and J.Brown most would expect Dermie to be the more stuck up yet I watched them at the footy waiting to do the pregame segment and J.Brown just stayed at the desk while Dermie was off talking to the kids on the fence. There was nothing wrong with what Brown was doing but thought it was interesting to watch.

I don't have a problem with that, as long as he is nice to kids when they approach him.

had the pleasure of meeting Barry over the tables as a Casino employee.good guy, down to earth
Come across many Afl players in that role and in all fairness over 90% are just genuine good ppl out for a break of routine.
My impressions on a few, Nathan Buckley: absolute solid citizen and gentleman
Shane Tuck : good bloke, Aaron Hamill: good bloke with an edge Andrew Mackie : cool, casual.cocky, wears a pair of thongs in winter,or did back then
Adam Simpson : Surly,Peter Bell : All Business, even back in '98 ,David Shwarz: popular, gragerious all round good bloke,David King : Edgy
Loon's : Aaron James,Stephen Lawerence,Shannon Grant,Nathan Thompson

Having been to our clubs best & fairest for multiple years now, I can absolutely verify that Dangerfield is a very surly individual to our fans....It is really disappointing to see tbh, especially when you compare him to a Guthrie or Selwood who are so great with their time....On the actual topic, I can tell you Josh Caddy & Scott Selwood could not stand each other in 2016, which reached the point of Caddy suggesting a conflict of interest with Joel as captain because he felt Joel was pushing Scott to be in the midfield & therefore forcing Caddy out of it down forward. It was a not so much talked about reason why he left that year while still in contract.

Would have wagered on J.Selwood being a bit of a dick in person, good to hear that wasn't your experience.

No he’s been great the few times I have me him at club functions, his wife Brit is also a very friendly person....Dangerfield, & Motlop when he was there couldn’t try to escape the public quick enough. But hey, every club would have good & bad players like that...Just sticks in your memory bank though.

Nah J Brown is a top bloke

Might just have been one of those nights where he wanted some peace and quiet

Dermott has also commented many times to the affect of Dunstall being the most selfish person who was the most selfless footy player one could possibly be. Incidentally, he considers Jason one of his great mates. Jason has freely admitted he is not really a fan of people generally, many times...

I don't think too many if any people have an issue with Jason who have either played or worked with him that I have heard, it's just that he likes his own space, does his own thing and does not cultivate friends. The joke on Triple M has been that no-one is better prepared or fine with isolation than Dunstall. Nothing wrong with that... Would strongly debate that he is someone who is or was disliked by his team-mates unless there are specifics that I don't know with certain individuals.

I believe this is in Sheedy's book from the late 1990s. I recall something about Sheedy taking an autograph book for a young fan around the dressing rooms and Bill Barrot signed it, "Get f’ed, Bill Barrot". Sheedy took exception and they punched on.
Maybe , another name came to mind , I think that could be a cover story! But I will not pursue it, as it seems well over and finished and needs to stay there.

There is no issues with Jason Dunstall. We all know his capacity, and yes its true he is not the great runaround social connecter, and can you imagine him and Derm not being mates, IMPOSSIBLE!
All people learn to get on when they are different types, really good mates can give a cobber a ribbing and never mean it and the bloke knows.
I would suggest that that is why these two are good friends, Jason was a champion footballer like Dermott, but Jason was /is a hard nosed business like person too. His efforts on The Bounce are pure clever and funny, having said that, I doubt the show if it goes again, will ever be the same, I feel bad even talking about it.
s**t they made me laugh. God bless ya Spud! RIP.

I wasn't criticising Brown at all but thought it was interesting watching Dermie off talking to the crowd when some people might think Dermie would be stand offish, not that Brown was.

Derm is one of the nicest blokes in footy.

Leaving aside some of the on-camera floggery he is a ripping guy. He was captain coach of a mate's lower grade cricket team a few years ago and was a real hit with everyone.

This is the first Sheedy story I've heard that made me like him
Seriously?
Sheedy is a legend for involvement in the game.
He is the first to arrive and last to leave at every engagement.
Granted, he's a lunatic when it comes to promotion, but when it comes to one on one people skills there's very few who are better.

I've seen him go to the boot of his own car and give a footy to a kid.
He was telling them to practice bouncing and kicking it to yourself.
This one kid said he didn't have a footy.
At the end of the clinic, about half an hour later, he went to his car said "where's my little mate that doesn't have a footy?"
He went into his own car and gave the kid a Sherrin.
Then he said to the people who were standing there open mouthed "every kid needs his own footy", got into his car and left.
Fair enough, it was probably Essendon's footy (he was coach at the time) but even still, the impact it made to that one kid was huge.
