Re: 8 Teams Interested in Ben Hart

All Adelaide Crows supporters must be so dissapointed with the sacking of Hart. One of my all time favourites and ledgend of the game. In a way I hope he doesn't go to another club because it would certainly kill me if it was one of our guys going elsewhere to end his career.

Hart is on the veteran list along with Roo but noways you can have more players on the veteran's list. I think Macca and Tyson qualify and they will probably join Roo there.
Yes but more veterans = less rookies

I would think Adelaide would want to maintain 4 rookies ....it has been an advantage for us over Vic teams and this year I'm expecting to pickup some good bargains....also we can have one player over 23 on the rookie list (who hasn't previously been on an AFL list)

Good luck to Ben I say. :thumbsu:

His dad said this morning on 5AA that even if he did play for another club that he would come back to the AFC when that stint was over, because that's where his heart is.

Cornesy said tonight that he has always encouraged players not to retire too early, but rather make them drag you out kicking and screaming.

He followed that up with that's what Ben has done, and the club has naturally dragged him out kicking and screaming - it was inevitable once Ben went down that path.

Personally I'd be really surprised if another club did pick up a 32 year old non KPP with suspect fitness, irrespective of how good he has been during his career. We've been down that path ourselves, albeit with a 32 year old KPP with suspect fitness, and the results were schaisenhausen.

But if Ben does choose to go on, and a club does want him, then I have no doubt that Adelaide will facilitate that trade for a very minimal return.

And if all that happens, I hope it turns out to be everything that Ben wants it to be. :thumbsu:

Good luck to Benny. Sad for it to end like this. If he is managed well, like St Kilda is Managing Harvey, then I have no doubt he still has a few years left in him.

Good point. 2 Vets and 4 Rookies will probably be the way. I'd imagine Andy's bigger salary (compared to Tyson's) would mean that he would join Roo on the veterans list.

I think we need 2 mature-type rookies next year, form-willing, to come onto the main list in place of Hentschel and Rhett. The other 2 can be kids.

Good summary. :thumbsu:

That's the way I see it. At worst, 1 ready to go rookie if they're too scarce, but preferably 2.

You may be right and the Biglands/Hentschell injuries may force us down that path "reluctantly"

I'm sure we would prefer younger developing rookies ....but you play with the cards dealt you

Yes you can, if club A doesn’t accept what club B is offering then the player will simply nominate for the PSD but risk going to any club that is willing to pick him up.

Wont be in this case as Hart has been sacked by the AFC, he can nominate for the PSD, AFC has nothing further to do with it.

You cant sack a player then try and get a trade for that player:rolleyes:

No.

Hart has not been 'sacked'. He has just not been offered a new contract.

He is still on the list and if a trade can be worked out, he will go via trade. He can only go in the PSD if Adelaide refuse to trade him.

You don't know what you're talking about. The Crows certainly can trade him, if a club is interested. Just like Brisbane can trade Jason Akermanis, West Coast can trade Michael Gardiner, etc, etc. Do you need more examples?

Of course all these players can enter the PSD if they choose, but if they want a say in where they go, they need to agree to a trade.

Yes you can, if he wants to avoid the PSD and the risk of being taken by a bottom club.

Let's say Hart wanted to go to Sydney and didn't want to play for anyone else, with the knowledge that other teams wanted him, he could only guarantee getting to the team of his choice through a trade. The AFL dictates that must be either for a draft pick , a player, or a combination tehrof.

Good summary....:thumbsu:

our first 2 Rookie selections need to be made with the mind set of a nationa draft....given that they may see action in 2007.

We can turn this negative into a positve if we're smart.

You can only have maximum of 2 veterans any way

Channel 10 have reported that as many as 8 clubs have contacted Hart's manager in regards to playing on in 2007.

It would kill me to see Hart play for another club. :(
I would be honestly surprised if 8 clubs had shown interest in an aging back pocket player (albeit an ex-AA).

I hope he retires from AFL, as I can't see him in another jumper.

IIRC any club can have a maximum of 6 player listed outside of the main list as rookies or on the veterans list but every veteran player you have the club must reduce a rookie player.

This year we had 2 veterans (Mark Ricciuto and Ben Hart) and 4 rookies (Elliot, Bonaddio, Sugars and Redden), next year if we only list Mark Ricciuto on the veteran list would give us the opportunity to pick 5 rookies. So to answer your question if we had 4 players listed on the veteran list we could only have 2 rookies.

Sydney and Brisbane can have up to 8 rookies but half must be home grown players.

The key here is that players are actually contracted until after the trade / draft period and therefore can be traded.

Maximum on the main list is 38 plus up to two veterans Extra veterans are included in the 38 and only come into play in salary cap calculations For two you only have to count half their payments if you have three you can only discount a third or a quarter for 4 Next year we will have a maximum of 40 to select from until any rookies are upgraded for Biglands and Hentschel

what are the odds that any of these 8 clubs have offered better than the performance based contract we have been rumoured to have offered.

surely they'd only be thinking Perf Based too? presuming it's true that 8 are interested, and I'd be more confident of seeing babe fly past my window.

just a point of interest... everyone knows that thats not ben's biological father talking about him on the radio/tv etc

His biological old man is John Robinson who played 187 games for North (1965-1975).
