Don't the Western Bulldogs have a number of games in hot parts of Australia?

All that sun is bound to fade their jumpers!

Sorry!

I think all the Victorian clubs (bar Essendon and Carlton) are in danger of doing a Fitzroy (or worse). Obviously not ALL of those teams would fold, or merge. But (unfortunately) it's very much a case of the weakest links being purged (well, that's how I see it will be, anyway).

So out of Kangaroos, Western Bulldogs Hawthorn, Geelong, St.Kilda, and to a lesser extent Melbourne and Collingwood, I'd assume that 2 or 3, maybe even 4 of those identities will undergo some form of change (merger, takeover, relocation, fold), within the next 15 to 20 years.

Olmy, I'm please that Richmond didn't make it into either of your lists! (I think
!)

Figjam,

Cheer on your team all you like - but believe it when your team were in danger of bankrupting themselves during the Maggieland days.

If nothing else, Eddie will be known for leading you away from that financial precipice.

Ha Ha Ha CJH

The previous administration at Maggieland Ill - advisedly went into property investments. But If the McEddie administration had waited another 6 months or so tbefore shedding property they would have cleaned up on the rising property market. Collingwood would have millions in the bank.

Perhaps He'll be remembered as the administration which delisted Sav Rocca

Do you mean fade away as in slide down the ladder, or fade away as in do a Fitzroy.
If your talking about the latter, you've got no idea - Carlton will never die, as will West Coast.
If your talking aobut the former, your pretty much on the ball - but being an eagles fan, i need to have optimism.

If he means in terms of ladder position, then the eagles don't really have much fading to do. 'Fading' is a term that should only be used on has been teams that are still holding on to the top 8 eg:Bulldogs and Nth

As alluded to by CJH, I have asked for the Carlton boys to not hang themselves out to dry in the midday sun or hang around in windows for too long.

We should be fine.

Joel I know what The Jeff was saying since I read the whole post, but on first glance fade away sounds like a club not making a profit and eventually being kicked out of the competition, so I can see and understand what Viz was saying.

The problems with the original post are that if it was referring to ladder position:

1. West Coast has already faded (and if anything can only be rejuvenated)
2. All of the top 8 have the "potential" to fade away.

Nonetheless, Geelong appear to be a team that was reinvigorated in 2000 and is unlikey to be a "faded" team if they finish 7-10.

Can't wait to stick it up people saying Geelong will fade in 2001......remember we were tipped by the "experts" to finish 12-14th in 2000 (finished 5th). add Justin Murphy and Bomber Thompson as a second-year coach.......Let's just see, shall we?

Well our playing surface faded away a couple of months ago.

Who's your team Jeff. Then we can say whether they will fade away.

The team that will fade away this year is Essendon. They'll lose three games, Round 1, Round 16 and the Grand Final to the unbeatable ROOS.

Yeah, their supporters are the MISSING link! hahahahahahah!!!!

Still, for the strongest link you haven't won too many premierships over the last 40 years. What is it now? One????

Then you also have the financial disaster that was the 80's, and yep, pretty much most of the 90's as well. Not to mention you've been filling up all that space at the bottom of the ladder for the past few seasons.

How's Epping, btw?

CJH, I would say that Richmond are at a certain degree of risk. Even the Roys have made the finals more times than you guys in the last 20 years (and we haven't even had our own team in the comp for the last 4!).

Obviously clubs like Collingwood and Richmond have a large number of supporters to call upon, which is pretty much their saving grace. However, how long can a club go on without having success?

Melbourne, sure they have Diamond Joe, but even he won't back a dead horse. It's time to perform over the next 5 years - or you might be looking at the Melbourne Saints/Hawks/Bulldogs/Tigers (pick the most appropriate). Most of those teams are in the firing line, at least to some extent. I don't seriously believe that we'll see the same Victorian sides running around in 15 years or so, as we are now.

Geelong? They're a story all of their own.

Kangaroos and WB, they're already halfway to becoming interstate clubs.

Daddy_4_eyes,

North set to 'fade away'!!!! They finished ONE game away from playing in another Grand Final.
Seven consecutive Prem finals, 2 Premierships, 1 Grand Final.
With the exception of 2000, we also had very low draft picks.

If that's 'fading away', I am all for it.
