I reckon daddy 4 eyes was right Michele, the Kangaroos lost Bell, Capuano and Pike, and got Sav Rocca, Olarenshaw and Sinclair as some of their recruits
They've got some great players but I think the Kangas could very well fall down the ladder a few spots.

One piece of information.

The Melbourne Hawks thing has been tried and was an abysmal failure - who on earth would push that one again ?

And both Melbourne and Hawthorn amended their articles to add a claus requiring 75% approval from members before doing such a thing again

Meaning it is a relatively remote prospect

Diamond Joe has got more than his $3M worth in free publicity so why wouldn't he continue ?
Business people pour money into Enflish soccer teams for the same reason.
Look out for more of this in future

Hawks are doing OK thanks very much despite all the snide remarks about pets, moving to tasmania/southport etc

Ant,

Have to disagree with you. Daddy_4_eyes said....."Nth or Bulldogs, just holding on in the eight.."

North were ONE game away from playing in another GF.

Er, News Flash!!! Joe is in some serious financial shit, and guess which club will quickly fall off his list of charities when he has to tighten his belt.

The Eagles don't have a lot of room to fade in, they are likeley to finish higher on the ladder than last year so can be considered rising stars at least.

Fading stars will IMO be the Dees. They may even struggle to make the 8.

St Kilda have to rise, but probably not a lot.

Essendon must fade. A repeat of last seasons effort is very improbable.

Hawthorn looks an interesting one. They could shine or fade away.

Potentially 15 clubs could fade in 2001. If Essendon finish any lower than first, then they've faded.

Realistically, there are a few clubs that could fade. North, Melbourne (The Yo-Yo's) Geelong, Hawthorn, Carlton, Bulldogs. - Notice All Victorian clubs that made the 8 in 2000.

The question is, Who is good enough to take their place - StKilda, Richmond, Sydney, ........ maybe Port and maybe Freo - maximum 5 out of 6, more than likely 2 or 3 out of 6.

Let;s look at the Fade Away candidates.

North - after being up for so long, they are due for a fall, a 21 goal hammering in a final won't help mentally and an aging list which includes Rocca and Colbert.

Melbourne - Are capable from finishing anywhere from 2-15 who knows what they can do.

Carlton - Historically successful, rarely miss the finals but injuries to stars could hurt by the end of the season.

Bulldogs - A side with average history (I won't say tragic, I'm not that rude) but a top team that has been up for years, finished 8th in 2000 and could be gradually slipping, once again not a lot of change to the list.

Geelong/Hawthorn - I put these 2 together because they are very similar, both teams are capable of beating the best on their day, both are young sides who let's be honest played above what was expected of them in 2000. Both could be right up there this year and both could drop AKA Melbourne in 1999. Expect both sides to be up there consistently in the next 10 years.

Good summary, Gocatsgo

ps. Behind post

Essendon may well top the ladder this year but their win/loss ratio is unlikely to match that of last year. This would mean they have faded. (they still may well be the best team in comp)

Essendon will have arguably "faded" if it doesn't make the GF. To argue that teams that have a slight dip in their position have faded is ridiculous. I will, however, predict that whoever the Bombers play in the GF will fade away early in the first quarter.
