We had the most wonderful farewell to a champion today. To anyone who hasn't seen it, he kicked a goal with his final kick in AFL, and EVERY Eagles player came to congratulate him. It was amazing for us diehards in the stands.

When the game finished, all his teamates (injured, suspended etc) came onto the ground, and a highlight tape of Blueys career was shown on the big screens (knew we got them for a reason

). Then there were video tributes from former coaches, teamates etc.

Bluey then spoke for a while, before taking a lap of honour in the back of a car, with the rest of the squad standing in the centre square cheering him on. When that finished, he was chaired off by the entire squad and officials.

Very moving indeed. And while I've never actually cried at a footy game, I think I nearly bit through my lip a number of times today as the tears welled up.... So thanks to Bluey and the Eagles for a well thought out and planned farewell. It's such a pity Whoosha couldn't get the same treatment. Oh, and the result too...

Yep when i saw Cousins break from the middle of the ground (i was watching tv) then he seemed to be only looking for one person.

Bluey took the mark and the crowd was deafening then there was a close up of Bluey and he winked at someone who i can only imagine was Benny.

He went back and slotted it through and again the first person to jump on him with the biggest smile ive ever seen was little benny with a fair bit of emotion i imagine.

Then the entire team no matter where they were on the feild ran and hugged and celebrated with him. I was all choked up and for some reason evenn more saddened than when my favourite player of all time Chris Lewis retired earlier in the year.

Seeya Bluey we'll miss ya.

Emotional stuff at the game! If only you could of heard the roars whenever Bluey came near the footy. I also noticed the eagles seemed to play with so much passion whenever Guy went on the ground.

Re: Bluey and Woosha's Bet:

Yep Woosha won and it was for an around the world plane ticket - maybe they can both go and be back in time to coach the eagles in 2002?

Thanks to EVERYONE who stayed until the end of the game - It meant a lot to the players and it was a highlight to end the season.

I'd now have to say yes - I've got a strong feeling the eagles will appoint Benny the captain and give the club a 'new look' for the future - I also hope Guy accepts an assistant coaching position at the club
