Very happy for the man, we got Dempsey and lonergan out of the deal as well. S beneficial for both parties I'd say.

Go teddy
This. A win-win for both clubs for a few years

Jesus Christ.

He Hardly did a thing when he was here and took 4 or 5 years to do anything at Sydney.

I'm as happy as the next guy for Richards to have had such a great year but I'd take Dempsey over the 2 years that Richards has finally strung together.

I think we're doing OK-ish in terms of the "Left Essendon to play in a premiership elsewhere" stakes.

Richards
Hardwick
Caracella
Manton
J. Madden
...Barry Davis?

Yeah, it's OK. Three of those had already played in premierships for us anyway.

I wonder which club has the worst record?

Can't say I give two shits about most opposition players but Ted is the exception.

Wasn't he an Essendon boy growing up?

Gutsy to play on one leg yesterday...had four needles to get through the game.
Being Jobe's best mate put him behind the eight ball with Sheedy...

Interesting to see that even the biggest egos can get nervous - Buddy didn't want to kick for goal by the end of the game.

He was bloody good in their loss to WCE. Bloody good. Played every game that year - barely missed since his move.

He was good in the first half then made those "Teddy" mistakes which cost them the granny.

He was dropped a few times early in his career at the Swans.

He's become a competent defender in the last 2 years. Its taken a long time for it to happen. I wonder if our supporters have the patience to allow Hooker another 2 years to develop?

For a period there perhaps. But he fought his way back in.

Richards was well beaten - close to being destroyed.

No excuses for Teddy being injured - Last time Buddy came off a 6 week break and Still beat Teddy.

I thought he was borderline AA selection - Every year the top 4 teams, get one or two players over the line for AA selection - Think Maxwell/O'Brien/Egan/Harley etc.

Richards was hampered by a ankle injury for the Grand Final and as a result he could not move like he usually does.

Excuses,Excuses, Excuses.

Didn't stop Buddy beating Richards in Round 21 after Buddy missed 6 weeks through injury.

Richards issue at EFC was Sheedy - When Henneman gets a game before you, it's time to move over.

The actual trade Richards VS Dempsey/Lonergan.

Swans are still ahead but we could break even in the next two years.

In the 4 years they played together Teddy managed 33 games to Henno 31.

Difference was that Richards only played 33 games, because Henneman was always injured.

Richards would have been lucky to play 10 games, if it wasn't for Henno's injuries.

Richards showed a lot more than Henneman at EFC.

Franklin v Richards in 2012

Goals: 7
Games: 3
GPG: 2.333

Franklin v everyone else

Goals: 62
Games: 16
GPG: 3.875

I would say that proves Richards has done a ****ing fantastic job this year on Franklin.

If we're looking at the raw numbers, one of those goals was an obscene bomb from well outside 50. Nothing any defender can doing about that.

Beat Franklin a couple of times in the 4th. You'd take it a 3 goal haul from Franklin every day of the week.

Richards did exceptionally well in their first meeting - Beaten in Round 21, comprehensively beaten in the GF.

Anytime a CHF gets 24 possessions ( especially in a GF ) - They have won their position.

Franklin was clearly the best key forward on the ground - The other forward who had a substantial impact on the game was Goodes.

I'll have to take Brownie points off Franklin for kicking goals outside 50 - I forgot about his 4 contested marks, the most of any player.

S20; Summed it up beautifully; Richards was about WOG at half time.

23 games in his first year, 23 the next, 24 the year after that.

2009 & 2010 he struggled a little; but he's played about 150 of total 170 since his move. A mainstay.

I'm not sure that I believe anyone who says they were that sad to see Richards leave.

Receiving a first round pick for him was considered a major coup (and massive overs) when the deal was done.

Was disappointed when he left, but good on him.

On the Franklin/Richards issue, Richards was clearly limited by injury (to some extent), but was soundly beaten. Franklin with so many disposals and 3.4 (and that laughable OOF) could/should have been the matchwinner. Not his day personally, but contributed to the flag, and that's what counts, right?

People can regret losing the player, but also be glad that the club has obtained some value out of the transaction.
