Teenyboppers

My teenybopper years were spent in the country during the early nineties . . . think Levis from Just Jeans, brogues, chambray (denim look) shirts, body suits, white denim shorts with frayed legs and early 90's "explosion" fringes. . . oh yeah and Cherry Lane, Espirit, Gucci and Sportsgirl logo t-shirts!

Then there was grunge, floral dresses and hiking boots then the A Line denim button-up skirts, then the black dress with thin straps and white t-shirt underneath craze. Never a lot of flesh on display.

The only makeup I ever wore to school was coloured mascara *lol*

Memories!! My teen years were mid to late 80's.

Madonna, lace, long shirts, skirts, tight elastic dresses. fluoro etc. The worst thing is that you needed so many accessories. At least these days teeny boppers wear so little clothing that it must be so cheap. They can get away with wearing practically nothing and with so many cheap shops around it costs nothing to copy a look.

Ah . . . the Madonna look - I'm going to an 80s club night at the end of the month, where does one get nunga bands from these days?? (black rubber bangles)

So right about all the mass-produced chain store fashion where you can get tops for about $5, good value for your pocket money and no danger of looking remotely individual.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! Thanks dogwatcher, anyway i didnt really go through the same kind of awkward stage from 14-17 (1988-91) i just went from brushed down fringe to Vanilla Ice flat top. Hmmmmmmm Might have to relive my youth, down to US college/NBA hats too.

I'm just a bit younger than you Adrian, but the Vanilla Ice flat top was something that graced my head for a while. Although - no intricate patterns were on display.
Flannie's were the dress of bogans then - saw plwenty of those in Elizabeth. US College/NBA hats which didn't have the brim rounded like they do today - way cool.

I'm an old man and remember the early eighties. Those tight tracky dacks things with long jumpers AND moccosins! Moccos everywhere -- down the street; to the movies; to the parties; even to bed!!! Don't forget the mullet -- Jason & Kylie led the way!!

The motto for the last 30yrs -- less is best. Next gen will wear nothing and then it will revert to full dress code again with corsets.:p

Apparently moccasins are back 'in' again, surf shops are selling them. Pathetic!

ha remember those gay trackies with the bit of elastic going under ur foot, stirrups? or something i think they were called.

I wish to forget these!! Shockers!!

What about the "home boy" scene in the early 90's! You had to wear your caps so they would just sit on your head, the cross-colours, and then there was East 17.....

I was one of these Kurt Cobain wanna be's. Glad these days are over!

I remember East 17! They used to wear very baggy clothes and caps that would lightly touch their big fat heads.

They also used to make lots of bizarre arm movements, as if they had some sort of arthritis.

yes i think thats making a comeback.

the latest one is to get ur hat and put some elastic around it at the back, so its then too small for you and the peak has to be pointing up into the sky at a stupid angle which defies the point of wearing a hat.

also the older generation of teenies are those tryhards who have just got their license and drive around in their VL TURBO (haha sed in a wog accent) with the drivers seat laid back so far that they might as well be looking out of the back side window, while wearing that hat style i mentioned earlier, stereo up as far as it will go with the subbies blaring, driving with one hand, which has to be positioned at the TOP of the steering wheel, and acting shark like doing laps around the main streets of whatever is their local suburb, and also laps around the local shopping center carpark.

Oh hell yes. Thank you. I've been banging that gong for a long time. I refer to it as 'the mandatory uniform of the unique individual.' These "solo" creatures wouldn't be caught dead without it.

"I'm a rebel. I choose the path least tread." says the guy with the shaved head, goatee, ear ring, tattoo, X-tra large shirt, baggy jeans, backward hat while standing in a sea of guys with shaved head, goatee, ear ring, tatoo........

:D

Peace,

Reminds me of the Far Side cartoon where there are hundreds of penguins standing around and one of them is saying "I've got to be me!".

Im 16 and i went through the whole 'teenybopper' look when I was 13 or 14 and now (thank goodness!) im over that and I wear normal clothes now (clothes that actually cover at least half my body!). I reakon that istead of sitting here insulting teenyboppers we should focus our attention on the d*ckhead guyz that drive past and scream stuff at u. I can't even take my dog 4 a walk with out a car driving past yelling out "hey sexy, show us your t*ts" or something along those lines. I've been walking around my suburb with my friend and a car full of guyz drove past us 4 times just so they could scream crap at us... It's not flattering, it's definately not going to get them anywhere so why do they bother?!?!?!

Is it just me, or is the number of teenybopper girls growing???

Everywhere you go, there are young girls wearing boob tubes and short, short skirts wandering around like they own the world. Most of them havent got the body for tight clothes, and they are so rude to people.

To be honest, I hope it is a phase that will go away. There is no need for try hard teenyboppers to be so damn rude to people.

There are none like that around here. Do you have any names of streets where you have seen them? ;)
