Everytime I read a post on the Carlton board I note when talking about the G vs Dome vs PPark that everyone hates the dome.

Personally I love all 3 venues .... without question the G is great for the big games when the weather is nice but I must say when it is June/July and its a cold Saturday nite the dome is the place to be.

I really like our current arrangement of split games.

Anyway just posting some thoughts as once we start winning at the dome again it could be an absolute coldrum for us with 40,000 members meaning it is nothing but navy blue for hme games.

That is the biggest problem with TD! We have the worst record there:thumbsu:

Me personally the G is the place to be, rail, hail or shine....and if PPark was still in use that would be right up there with the G.

For me footy is a winter sport so you take the rain and the cold....we have all become a little too precious with playing under a roof IMO.

Bring back footy in the open air!!

I'd prefer us play at the MCG.
1, the rails at Telstra absolutely piss me off because if you do stand up (like me), theres limited spots where you can see.
2, a roof? It's a winter sport, and since when was playing in a heated arena winter?
3, all my childhood memories are from either PP or MCG.

TD is horrible as a venue. If you are up the back on the top level you will freeze, simple as that. The seating is uncomfortable at best, too close together. There is simply no atmosphere. There is also no sense of "home" games, or at least thats the impression I get- just a scattering of team colours here and there. The food is over-priced and disgusting (and yes, I do bring my own). The turf has major problems and we suck playing there. I also hate Ian Collins.

That all said I am working there next year, so Telstra Dome is the greatest place on Earth.

I don't why, the TD feels plasticy - lacking something atmosphere wise. Probably due to the roof and the greenish pillar things. It's gotten better now that I've been there numerous times, but IMO doesn't compare to what it was like at PP.

Pretty much summed it up.

  • Lack of atmosphere
  • lack of home game feel
  • extortion prices for food that is crap anyway
  • we don't play well there
IMO the first two are much more important than the other two. My memories from PP was it was absolutely rocking when we were playing down there, and teams would hate playing there.

The g is the g and those big games are magical.

Edit. Could also add lack of a 'real' social club as opposed to PP for both TD and MCG

Simple...

It isnt Princes Park. it never will have the same sort of attachment as PP does for most of us.

It is not and never will be anything like the G.

IMHO, Docklands is the new Waverly... yet another white elephant for the AFL commission...

Many reasons:
-For a start, I am an MCC member, so i can get into the MCG for free
-The surface is always under question and thought to create injuries
-Definatly not a home to Carlton in anyway at all like the MCG and PP are to us
-We play better footy at the G. Our record compared between the MCG and TD speaks for itself
Although I do understand some of the points that you bring up. It is a very good place to watch the footy.

because t.d is by far the worst ground a player could play on and you only have to look at the injurys that have happened due to the ground being so shit there to see that its true

I'ts not TD's fault we have the worst record there it's ours because we have been the worst team for the past 5 years.....let's see if the next 5 years brings us the best record at TD........haven't been there myself but coming to Melb in April next year and will go to unfortunately St Kilda and Essendon but going to see us towel up the dees on the Sunday at the G.....

TELSTRA DOME is the INJURY DOME.

THAT is where JUDD did his groin against Essendon.

That is where after recovering somewhat and showing speed again against WESTERN BULLDOGS, he re-did his groin.

He infact made his groing worse 3 times!!! at the TELSTRA DOME.

He himself complained about it.

GOOD luck to him playing there in 2008.

He will miss the glorious space and natural football sized Subiaco Oval.

TELSTRA DOME was accidently made for soccer, and the soccer world are now saying 'thankyou.

Telstra Dome needs to take some of the front row seats out and extend the ground for the benefit of Aussie Rules football. It will be perfect then

Why can't people see that.

Carlton really does have the best balance at the moment. 6 home games at TD and 5 home games at the MCG is perfect.
The MCG is best suited for the big games at the beginning and towards the end of the season. TD is best suited for medium size games during the colder, winter months, and on friday nights.

Since Carlton has moved TD they have been bloody ordinary, so people don't associate the ground with Carlton and success. In reality the ground is fantastic, its centrally located, easy to get to, and neither the game nor the fans are affected by weather. When Carlton is a better team they will be winning at TD and it will be full of navy blue and white. The games against hawthorn of late, where the crowd has been massively pro Carlton is just a taste of whats to come when the Blues become a powerhouse again.

There's only one good thing I like about TD. That's that livewire bar, $3.30 pots, TAB, I like going there for an hour or two before the game.

One advantage of the Dome is that you feel really close to the ground especially when sitting in the top tier compared to the MCG. Prefer the MCG, but we cant seem to win there. Have a much better record at the Dome. Hate that we are contracted to the Dome for a few more years yet as we need our players to get accustomed to playing on the MCG. Plus the MCG is where that debacle of a match was played in Round 3.

Firstly, there is no comparison to Princes Park - there never can be!

But Telstra Dome....

- We play rubbish on there
- There is no 'home' feel, the whole damn ground looks the same
- Footy should never be played under a roof
- It's run by Ian Collins
