Ok I'll preface this rant by saying i'm an MCC member so it definitely suits me to see the Bombers at the MCG, but WTF is with the fixturing?

A near full-house on Monday, guaranteed full-house next Sunday, and looking into the future I would expect the Hawthorn & potentially St Kilda games to full as well.

We are closing in on 40,000 members and playing marquee games at such a small venue is a joke.

I realise our record at the MCG recently has been poor, but it used to be a Red & Black stronghold. I really think we need to be using a facility of this size to increase our membership, fan base & comfort for all our our supporters.

We are a premier club & need to play at the premier venue - the only games we should play at the Dome are against interstate teams.

You'll be battling to find someone who disagrees with you there.

With our membership surging you could wonder whether being a TD resident actually holds it up. Perhaps we'd be even higher if members knew they'd always get a seat!

I completely agree with you. I hate having to book tickets and spend more money for games like that.

So I try to go early to the game, though still with a fear whether am I going to get in. (Eventhough I have a membership).

Then when you get there and they say it's a ticketed game. Then you ask for where you prefer to sit, and they will tell you we can't request it and that the machine will give you the best tickets available.

You go to your seat and find out it's the worse seats possible, third level right against the side of the scoreboard. Then you turn around and look to the middle, there will be so many empty seats right behind the goals. People rocking up even 5 mins before the game gets those seats or most of the times it's empty through out the game. Then you wonder what's the point in coming early.

I miss the "G". Only good things with the dome is that you get to see a good game of footy, without wind or rain affecting the game, and facilities are faultless.

Maybe Sydney and West Coast games should be played at the 'G' too. Rest of the interstate games at the Dome are fine.

It's funny that an MCC member is complaining about games being played at the Dome. I wouldn't have an issue with my team having 40000+ members at a facility that holds 54000. It would turn the Dome into a fortress of Red and Black :)

I'm happy playing home games at Telstra (never thought I'd hear myself say that)...but with the new stand at the 'G, we can't see a screen anymore! ;)

Blame the AFL. We wanted 2 of our 3 Melbourne home games at the G, the AFL decided to put all 3 at the Dome

Screw Richmond and North Melbourne, they won't draw more then 50k anyway.
Sorry but Richmond play their home games at the MCG, therefore they have every right to keep their game at the G.

Geelong play their home games at Skilled. It should be deemed a privelage for Geelong to play home games at Telstra Dome - away from a third world stadium like Skilled Stadium.

I am happy they are at the dome, I work there and get to watch my team play while getting played and eating discount junk food.

If I was a full-paid up member I would be disappointed as well but that won't be me for a few more years.

part of the reason essendon has 40,000 members is because they play at the dome. if they played 11 home games at the MCG, they probably wouldn't have that many.

if you walk in off the street at the MCG and buy a GA ticket, the clubs gets only a tiny portion of the gate receipt. but if you are forced to buy a membership (or better yet a season reserved seat) then the club gets 100% of that revenue. its business and its part of what has kept essendon such a strong club during the past 5 relatively lean years.

look at the eagles and freo - they have more members than us because often without a membership you can't go to the game. look at the big basketball and soccer teams overseas. people wait years on waiting lists, which means the club can charge what they want for membership and have the increased financial security that comes with that.

i should be open and honest and say i hold a reserved seat for essendon home games (dome and MCG) and i have an MCC membership. i realise that is certainly not within everybodys means and that i am fortunate. but you can't deny that financially the club is better off by playing more games at the dome.

nothing beats a packed MCG against the blues or the pies for atmosphere, but for the majority of games i would rather watch at dome anyway. i'm closer to the action, the facilities are better and 40,000 fans in the dome has a way better atmosphere than 40,000 or even 60,000 at the G.

Blame Geelong. It's their home game.

mate don't blame us. We aren't the lametards that think that the unfurling of the premiership flag should happen indoors.

Once again the AFL display a complete and utter lack of logic.

Seriously this fixture should be at the G every year. I can't remember ever going to a Cats V Bombers game with a small crowd.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't every Essendon home game a ticketed match.

If the AFL want to force us to play 3 home games (we told them we only wanted 2 and that both and them should be at the G) in Melbourne they can at least accommodate us properly

The MCG wants which ever game will bring the most people through the gates, they could care less about which teams 'deserve' to play there hence why they were dropping hints for the AFL to move the games around (such as saying "the game would draw 80k+" and "I thought it would be a natural MCG match").

Sounds like someone wishes their club had such a 'privelage' to have a home like Skilled, actually someone probably wishes their club had a home at all

On topic the only remaining seats are the ones that are normally closed next to the scoreboards. Pretty lame... hope the game is at least live on TV.

I agree with everything you said. Especially that the Dome is a better place to watch footy.

Me too. That game against WCE last year was amazing. You'd never touch that kind of atmosphere with even 60-70k at the G.

That said, if you're going to get 80+ at the G then you'd want to play there.

One of the best atmospheres you will ever experience.

The stands were literally shaking that night!

From my understanding Geelong made a request to the AFL in it's draw submission that it wanted this game and the game against Collingwood moved to the MCG but the AFL refused

While I like the Dome as a venue, but knowing we have nearly 40,000 members makes me wonder if having the Dome as our home ground really is in Essendon's best interest over the long term
