In-law lives in South Brisbane. All broadband apart from Telstra are abandoning their area.

Basically they seem to be offering "NBN speed" plans for a premium on what you'd pay with the NBN, at a fraction of the speed.

The scuttlebutt is that the State Government, when building the Mater Children's hospital, had to use Telstra land. The State and Fed Government gave Telstra exclusive access to South Brisbane area for broadband. NBN will now not roll out in the area, leaving Telstra to milk the locals with overpriced plans on old infrastructure.

Apart from abusing Telstra staff, there doesn't seem to be much anyone can do but bend over and let Telstra have their way with them.
