Tenace and Byrnes

http://www.geelonginfo.com.au/readarticle.asp?articleid=14596

Hands up who’s excited at the prospect of these boys patrolling the wings of Skilled Stadium?

Media reports are saying that Byrnes overtook Tenace as the fastest in the team over 20 metres and it looks like there’s a bit of rivalry going on between them (``I just wanted to beat Kane because he has been getting into me about it all year,'').

In reality they’re both probably fighting for the one position at the moment, but down the track I can see them both in the same team and what an exciting prospect that is!

There's nothing better than pace and class in a team and these two are all over it in that department.

i thought tenace was quick and byrnes is quicker! you beauty. the thing is i reckon byrnes can play, he has good skills and he showed a bit when he played last year. we have got some great depth this year which is good, competition for spots is good for the team.

That's not to say Tenace doesn't have talent - we all know he does!

Competition for spots will be where we make our biggest improvements this year I reckon. If you try to put our best 22 on paper, you'll find you won't be comfortable with 5 or 6 player who you've left out. That's a great sign especially when injuries start to play a part.

hmmm.

Tenace bulks up, Byrnes overtakes Tenace.

Id rephrase that... Tenace bulks up, Byrnes now quicker than Tenace.
A strong fast Tenace would be something to see lets hope he can have an impact this season, he really did lack the fitness last year hopefully hes worked hard on it over summer.

This was only quickest over 20m. Tenace would still finish ahead of every other player at Geelong with a ball in his hand and any distance from 30m to 200m. AND he'd still be able to kick the ball left or right foot to a player on the lead or through the goals from any distance and almost any angle up to 50m.

Byrnes, while a very good footballer, is a long way behind Tenace in many facets of the game. I doubt the situation would ever arise where Tenace is omiited for Byrnes. It may happen.... but I doubt it.

Byrnes is good, but Tenace is far better, and how he slipped through to pick 7 will remain one of football's enduring mysteries. :p

...and also lets not get carried away, yes its great to see Byrnes going so quick, but it was over 20m, and look at the splits

Byrnes - 2.77
Tenace - 2.84

It is 0.07 seconds difference, not a hell of a lot! But its great to see Byrnesy going so quick!

I assume they were hand timed...

if so that margin .07 is nothing, literally, andwith the wide hand time error margin, could easily be switched around.

But the boys are quick, and that is all that matters.

Sorry, the men are quick, personally hate it when the coaches say lets play the "kids".

And what's the story with Blake being up there with the quickest?

Someone is taking the p*ss ;)

edit: OR not. I just read the article, astounding.

edit2: Perhaps they just stuffed up.

New recruit Nick Batchelor clocked the second fastest time in the 20m sprint behind Shannon Byrnes with a time of 2.82 seconds.

VFL ruckman Mark Blake was next best in the sprint session with 2.82sec.
