Well, I guess he has two years to prove himself - I remember when he came into the team in 2004 and did some fantastic things, but has gone backwards since. Hopefully he can get a big pre-season in him and start playing to his ability.

That said, I am with another poster - his kicking technique is suspect in high pressure situations. There's something about the way he drops the ball that doesn't look quite right. Think that might need a little work.

I'm pleased he's staying around because his pace used to be exciting. I still remember him running away from a chasing McLeod while taking a bounce. It seems all teams are trying to add pace and the Cats aren't that pacey that we can afford to discard such players without giving them every opportunity. I know we some fast players but most are only on the fringe of selection for the top 22.

I never see VFL games - is Davenport fast?

I think their is difference between the two. Tenace can kickhe just lacks confidence, Byrnes has never been able to kick...
I disagree. Tenace's lack of awareness and awkward kicking action are his downfalls and both have very little to do with confidence, they're skills that he just doesn't have.

No we're not as pacy as some other teams, but what we do si move the ball quickly and run hard all day, which more than makes up for it. A few people were saying before the GF that Port with all their speed demons might run us off our feet - well we know how that turned out for them.

That said, I don't think some extra pace would go astray, provided we don't lose the other things that have made us a great team. That's why I'm excited about Djerrkura and Davenport in particular - they will fit in really well and bring some real pace.

And yes, Davenport is very quick. In 2006 was apparently 2nd only to Byrnes over 20m at the club, and if you watch a few VFL games you will see that he regularly runs away from chasing opponents (something that Monty doesn't seem to be able to do). He has a hunched over style that doesn't look that classical, but is very effective.

I disagree. I don't think he suffers from a greater lack of awareness than most other players. He's not Gary Ablett, but he not Kosi either.

And I believe his kicking woes are 99% confidence. If you saw him in his junior days and also when he first came into the side in 2004, his kicking was actually quite good. Recruiter reviews from his U/18 games were pretty consistent - outstanding pace, always hits targets, and special skill of winning the contested ball in a pack and then just accelerating clear (sounds a lot like a former Eagle who is now a Blue, doesn't it?).

I think that's why quite a few of us still have hope that he will be a great player - he's got all the tools, he just needs to learn to use them with confidence under the pressure of the top level.
