Doe anyone know if Tenace is still under contract?
The reason I ask being I believe he is the key in retaining King. If we are able to trade him it should eleviate our salary cap pressure sufficiently to offer King a contract for next year ( which he deserves)

Wouldn't think he'd be on heaps anyway. Need to keep him on the list. Had a pretty bad run with injuries this year. Was going to be in the starting 22 at the start of the season but copped an injury in a preseason match and had another 2 injuries throughout the year that kept him out for extended periods. Keep the faith.

Now that the trade period is over Tenace remains uncontracted at this point. He's a definite keeper IMO giving us depth as a running back/ midfielder. Will struggle to get regular game time but will be very handy if Enright, Mackie or Kelly suffer injuries. Needs to step up and become more than a depth player otherwise will be gone at the end of his contract.

I think he'll struggle to stay on the list.

Nup. Players of his calibre aren't delisted.

With all the trades we made, the pressure is off now. He'll stay.

Yes a guy like Tenace wouldnt be delisted...but is he being courted for the PSD? It's occurred to me no doubt like many of you since 2pm Friday what is the real solution to the seeming strategy behind Geelong's present draft pick situation? Unfortunately this is going to take a while to explain...when in reality its quite a simple theory.

As we should we can take Wells at face value when he suggests we will have 4 picks in the national draft. In his own mind did he mean four picks total...or 4 'live' picks and Donohue? To be honest I'm not sure but realism given our list and whats been mentioned so far by the club would suggest 4 live picks in total plus donohue plus the 2 rookie upgrades is quite possibly the scenario.

Its been interesting to everyone that we traded King and Gardiner for pick 90... meaning virtually nothing...and yet opted to wait all week for pick 62 as a swap for 66 from the dogs for Callan. Why not just take 78 or 94 from the doggies and not worry about it at all? Remember we had already secured pick 44 for Playfair allowing us 17, 34, 44 and 50...so a clear cover for our 4 pick scenario....why wait on the Dogs for pick 62 when we already had pick 66 for Donohue or supposedly a pick we didnt need to use anyway? What it possibly suggests is that #62 was drafted in a way as to include its relevance as a possibly 'live' pick and not just a father/son selection.

My humble opinion is the cats are worried about at least one player walking into the PSD...the most likely candidate to do so presently is Tenace. The forgotten man almost who missed both flags but was never mentioned in the press. Was offered up at the start of trade week and hardly raised a ripple of interest. I have a funny feeling he could be the target of a PSD coup by either Richmond or a Carlton presently. He remains unsigned and no one has even asked him or his manager a thing about his future plans. Geelong may have asked them to stay quiet whilst they make a revised offer for a new contract? Why let the press in on something when they have fallen asleep at the wheel.

We all know Carlton and the Tigers have developed a pathetic culture of tanking games so as to receive reward for doing nothing and thats why they keep spending all their time at the bottom of the ladder these days. I feel particularly Richmond would be behind such a scheme as they seem to have adopted some self inflicted masochistic view of the Geelong Footy Club RE the Brad Ottens deal.

We need to do our regular delistments which most of us agree could/should be another 3 players to facilitate our drafting and rookie upgrading requirements... if Tenace walks too it might mean we have to use a higher pick as a replacement for him/midfielder and spend a fifth live pick #62 on a taller project player if we have only upgraded 2 rookies.

Our recent picks #63 for Egan, #61 Stokes and #59 Hogan is a pretty good track record for us so I am not daunted if we have to use pick #62 with Wells in charge.

Does anyone else think we have secured some contingency with #62 for a guy like Tenace walking into the PSD? Just a thought.

Your theory certainly is a possibility. If we knew the exact status of players contracts it would be easier to see the options more clearly.
Obviously there are still new contracts to be negotiated before the draft. I calculate up to 5 players whose contracts are still to be finalized.

You are a smart man.

I got the Geelong 2008 calender for my b'day today and Kane Tenace was on it, I don't think they'd put delisted or to be delisted players on it.
;)

Happy Birthday...that makes you 14 going on 19 right?...:)
13 going on 420, but hey, at least I know how to use a computer... Pretty good for a 420 year old.
Now I have to get used to when people ask me how old I am I say "14" not "13" ... "14."

I don't know about that, I got the '07 one for mine last year and... KENT KINGSLEY was on it!

Tenace's name mainly came up as a result of Paul Roos announcing in the lead up to trade week that Tenace wa on their hit list. Apart from that, he didn't really rate a mention. In the senior games he played, he did his job. Don't forget that once you get dropped from our side, it's bloody hard work getting back in. Tenace has value and therefore if he was put on the table he would've gone.
