number 7 iirc. And he would have been picked by Wells i assume, and i sure hope he hasn't been fired....

Pick 7, the same draft that we took Thursfield, Spencer and Blake (as a F/S). There was some quality in that draft, a lot of it didn't go until pretty late though. Lost opportunity. Oh well.

I think Tenace's last two weeks have been among the best games I've seen him play at the club. Will be interesting to see what they do with him at the end of the year. They'll look at the depth and see what it is like, if it's not good he might go around for another two years.

For all Shannon's bad form, at least when he's in bad form he's stilll kicking goals (although it's a pity that he missed that one in the square). And while it wasn't his best game it wasn't his worst either.

*sigh* rooie, is 47% efficiency ever acceptable?

Don't worry, if he keeps playing like this it will be back to the VFL and you won't have to worry about the discussion.

not saying he played well, but i think he contributed. saying he was absolutely terrible is over the top, which was the point of my comment.

we all know that the DE stat is highly subjective, so if you only take that stat into account, and not the tangible ones, then ablett was pretty ordinary today too....

only one of byrnes disposals was a clanger, so whilst each kick may not have hit a chest, he only turned it over once.

ablett had 5 clangers from 40 touches at 68%, byrnes had 1 clanger from 18 at 47%. shows that these stats arent all they are cracked up to be.

Well put, I've been thinking the same thing for a while.
If anyone in the team needs a full on reaming at the moment, it's Mackie. His disposal and ever increasing number of clanger turnovers has got me worried. no one seems to bag the crap out of him though.

Should be a different thread but I have thought the same, especially today. Twice today caught with the ball and then the last turnover by foot was an absolute shocker. These turnovers almost always result in a shot on goal.
I wonder how he would go in a team that's struggling.

In my view, and in the view of everyone around me at the game, he was.

I'm not taking only that into account. I was at the game (were you?) and he butchered the ball today. Seriously, he was woeful.

Three of Ablett's clangers were free's against. When you get it 40 times, only 2 disposal clangers is pretty bloody good.

  :thumbsu:

He had played a good month or so of footy up until three weeks ago. Defending today's performance though is blind faith.

Best game he has played THIS YEAR. Yes that's the point. Maybe if he had a 6 week burst of games he may be able to show us what he has. Today was effective, and I'm not a Tenace fan. Always felt we should have traded him instead of Moloney. Now we have him he should get a chance against a pressure team like the dangerous desperate Hawks.

There's two reasons to play him at least a couple more games (well two I can think of). The first is to see what he can really do. The second is to show to other clubs what he can do.

We'd get something for him if we traded him. Given the compromised draft I have no idea what though (normally you might even get a late second round for him but I doubt you'd get that now). More likely you'd get a player. No names spring to mind though.

Goodes? :p

I said his stats don't look that bad, you said you can't look at Byrnes stats but rather his DE%.

I don't think he played a good game, i just don't think he was as crap as you are making out. So if that is defending him, so be it.

I don't think it was even possible given AFL rules at the time, but we were hardly going to trade away a top 10 pick at the end of his first year, a year in which he played 12 games, got a Rising Star nomination and won the 'Best First Year Player' award.

Fair point.

Loved his work today. Linked up well and that goal he kicked after intercepting a kick in was quality. Has put his name in the mix that's for sure.

He did impress - this now leaves only one maligned player - Blake

I don't think you would. It won't suit your argument.

As far as fringe players go, he was pretty good today. If he played like that regularly you couldn't have too many complaints.

Well said CE, heck you get a reputation and it's almost impossible to shake apparently; apart from his first kick where he missed Milburn [ I think ] from about twenty meters his disposal was pretty much spot on all day.

Have to agree with you about Byrnes also, unfortunately the "old" Shannon appears to be making a reappearance lately.

Also wanted to ask, where do you get the stats from so soon after the match?

Agreed. I don't care if his stats/points looked ok for last week. Classic example of them being misleading. Apart from his kicking for goal, Mackie's performances have been diabolical lately. He is there for his high skills, hard running and intelligence and reading of the play in defense. Right now he is hurting and already undermanned defense because he is providing very little of any of the above. Needs to lift.

The type of player (smaller running player) is what Geelong has in spades in the team already and have quite a few possible to develop in the twos over the next year or two. So there is nearly no chance Kane will make the cut at the end of this year.

Trade ? Would like to think so but if you got pick 32 (?) for Prismall what would you get for Kane ?

I think a straight swap for Macguire would be good - but they do not need his type either. Hard to see him other than being delisted and picked up late in the drafting process - a bit like Jason Davenport last year.
