Another good not great season from Tennessee. What do they need to do to take it to the next level? Some key personnel on defence should probably be a priority this season.
They're too one-dimensional relying on Henry. They need to open up the offense, have more exotic play designs. They've been found out now in the playoffs. They need to adapt.

So youre essentially saying Atlanta's hire of Arthur Smith was terrible.

No. Just that TheGreatBarryB 's new / original team, the Titans/Oilers, have a stud in Henry and over-rely on him. I am sure Smith at Atlanta can tailor a different offense around the talent he has at Atlanta. You're not gonna find Henrys all over the place.

Titans promoted Shane Bowen to defensive coordinator.
Bowen has been Tennessee's outside linebackers coach the last three seasons. The Titans went without a defensive coordinator last year after Dean Peas left, but Bowen took on a larger role. He'll be officially promoted this season, though HC Mike Vrabel may still handle the playcalling, so this isn't much of a change. Tennessee was 24th in points allowed and 28th in yards allowed under Vrabel and Bowen in 2020.

Titans promoted Todd Downing to offensive coordinator.
Downing replaces Arthur Smith, who was hired as the Falcons' head coach this offseason. This is Downing's second stint as an offensive coordinator, as he previously served as Raiders' playcaller in 2017. The Titans never showed much outside interest, with Texans QB coach Pep Hamilton the only other candidate to interview for the job. With Downing promoted, Tennessee may look to hire a defensive coordinator after going without one last season.

Yep, desperate for as much secondary help as they can get, and some better pass rushing depth behind Landry , Simmons and Clowney wouldn't go astray.

The decision between Smith and Davis will be interesting, doubt they can keep both. You'd think it would be Smith. But I could easily see some team overspending heavily on him in FA and take the decision out of their hands.

Former NFL defensive lineman Josh Evans died after a battle with kidney cancer, the team announced. Evans was 48.

Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk released a statement Friday: “I am so sad to hear that our Titans family lost Josh Evans today. His fight against cancer was one of courage and strength and his teammates were by his side encouraging him throughout that fight. We will remember his big personality and even bigger smile. We send our condolences to his family and friends in this difficult time.”

Evans asked for prayers from NFL fans last summer.

He underwent 13 hours of surgery after being diagnosed with kidney cancer in January 2020. Tumors were found on his kidneys, gall bladder, intestines and pancreas.

Evans entered an Atlanta cancer treatment facility last summer after learning the cancer had spread to his spine and liver.

Evans played seven years with the Titans franchise, originally making the Houston Oilers as an undrafted rookie in 1995. He played his final three seasons with the Jets. He started for the Titans during their Super Bowl season 1999.

Funeral arrangements at Willie Watkins Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Georgia, are not complete.

Derrick Henry has been named the Associated Press' Offensive Player of the Year.
Offensive Player of the Year is frequently won by quarterbacks, though it is often used a back-door acknowledgment of special seasons by non-signal callers. Henry certainly had one of those in 2020, rushing for the fifth most yards in NFL history with 2,027. This, in the first year of a deal that was hotly debated. You may have heard that paying running backs has gone out of style. It's not usually the best allocation of resources, but Henry creates panic in opposing defenses the way few runners do. He frees up so much space for Ryan Tannehill to execute the Titans' play-action attack. Headed into his age-27 campaign, Henry is on a Hall-of-Fame trajectory.

Well deserved for Henry btw, thought he and CMac were both stiff not to win it last year.

Titans GM Jon Robinson said OT Isaiah Wilson is "going to have to make a decision on if he wants to do things the way we want it done."
Robinson said the team has "tried to exhaust a lot of resources" into helping Wilson, who is on the reserve/non-football illness list for "personal issues that will take some time for him to work through." No specifics have surfaced about what has kept Wilson completely away from the team since being placed on the NFI list. They haven't spoken since early December. Wilson, the No. 29 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, also had a DUI and landed on the COVID-19 list during his rookie season. Hopefully he is able to get the help he needs.

A new one on Soldier Field, jesus, they really butchered it didn't they? Like a lady who's in her late 50s getting plastic surgery to look younger and comes out looking disaster. 😂

T Isaiah Wilson said in a since-deleted Twitter post that he's "done" with the Titans.
“Im [sic] done with football as a Titan…,” Wilson tweeted Monday night. “No further comments.” The post, since deleted, is the latest development in an ugly, ongoing spat between Wilson -- Tennessee's 2020 first round pick -- and the organization. Wilson played four snaps in one game for the Titans in his rookie year before the team placed him on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list. Titans general manager Jon Robinson said the team has "tried to exhaust a lot of resources" into helping Wilson, to no avail. It appears the relationship between Wilson and the team is close to irreparable.
