Umpiring was terrible last night. How could they not call this out on the full?

AGREE 100%. I was thinking sirengate last night. If th umpire signaled it was touched then its no point. The only way it could have been a point is if it hit the post. While I am gutted we didn't get the 4points I reckon we should be asking for a please explain and chasing the two points. I just can't believe there isn't more discussion about this.I can't really see how the decision is correct. It's either a goal or nothing. For it to be a goal it has to come off a players boot and be fully over the line. If a ball is touched on the line it is not technically a goal or a point but play on.
When an umpire makes the touched gesture it is more about telling the crowd and players why the goal wasn't awarded rather than why point is awarded if that makes sense. If after the siren the ball falls 5 meters short and it knocked through the goal by a players hand then that isn't payed a point. Technically this isn't any different.
Is it possible for Richmond to protest the final score of the game? This isn't a case of a goal resulting from a free kick which wasn't there or wasn't payed when it was there. It's not even like the one where the goal umpire got in the way of the incoming ball. In those cases it can be argued that the player may not have kicked a goal from the free or the ball may have bounced into the post. The correct decision is black and white. This instance is closer to the Sirengate debarcle than just a goal not awarded for a free which wasn't there. Hell the AFL even brought in the video review system to make sure their goal umpiring decisions are correct.

Edit: note to self finish reading thread before responding. At least I know the specifics of the rule now. Bugger.

thx but this was in reference to the point after the 3/4 time siren which has been clarified. not the umpire getting in the way incident, in the 4th.It was a point because the Fremantle player walked it over afterwards.

Sorry my mistake.
Freo gave us a head start and still managed to catch us...
We crack under pressure..whether its soft players...poor coaching...poor decision making...with enough pressure we crack...
I wonder if it's common knowledge in AFL Land...

How about this for an idea..... **** the goal umpires right off the field altogether and use some form of technology (laser beam system, gps in the footy or some such shit) to adjudicate on goals. Would never happen (eg. what if system ****s up), but just putting it out there.
I generally hate to raise it but, sheesh, what did we need to do for a free
How was kingys trip being overlooked, jack being mauled without the ball or that holding the ball that wasn't paid in the last. Seemed to me the pies got every infringement paid whereas we got nothing. Back to the bush for those nuffies.
Surprise Surprise the one W.A. umpire umpiring last night was the one who along with the goal umpire did not call for the Review. If it was it very well may have been a goal as it hit the umpire on the leg which was behind the line then came back into play.It is undefendable not to call for the review that is what the system is there for.But you just watch the Giesch & AFL defend this terrible decision.
