DANIEL VETTORI

112 Tests, 360 Wickets @ 34.42, 4516 Runs @ 30.10

Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan can consider themselves very lucky - they never had to bowl to the batsmen from their own team. Don't let the bowling average fool you. For Daniel Luca Vettori, it's been 14 years of tossing it up to Ponting, Tendulkar, Lara etc. with a reasonable return of s 5-wicket haul every 5 and a half Tests (better than Mitchell Johnson). Throw in his resilient leadership while New Zealand was/is going through one of its toughest periods, his incredible emergence as a bona fide batsmen with 6 Test centuries and the fact that after Joe Scuderi and Michael DiVenuto, he is cricket's third most celebrated Italian - there is no doubt that he deserves a spot at number 7 or 8 in this soon-to-be very intimidating line up (or perhaps I'm running out of quality New Zealanders to pick.)

WAQAR YOUNIS

87 Tests, 373 Wickets @ 23.56

The other half of one of the most feared attacks in the world, Waqar Younis tormented bastmen with deadly accuracy (56% of his wickets were bowled or lbw) and devestating reverse/late inswing, which was often simply unplayable - (see video). Statistically formidable and aesthetically breathtaking, Waqar Younis was a pioneer and a colossus of cricket in the nineties.

Probably. I've been waiting to be told it's my next go.

I've only had two so far, so I'll do my next one.

Shane Bond

Need a quality New Zealand player, Shane Bond's your man. Up there with the fastest bowlers of his time, along with a penchant for late inswing. Averaging 22.09 in test cricket with the ball, his body restricted him to mostly limited overs cricket (only a mere 18 tests, yet 82 ODIs). A fit and firing Shane Bond had the ability to destroy any batting lineup, as most evident during his contests against a dominant Australia of this era: attaining 44 wickets at 15.79 in ODIs.

Christopher Lance Cairns. As the NZ pool diminishes, one of the game's most entertaining all-rounders is ripe for the picking. Always a fierce competitor, Cairns opened the bowling with a dangerous combination of outswing and extra bounce, as well as playing a very important role at 6/7 with the bat in, for the most part of his 15-year Test career, a pretty fragile batting lineup. Held the record for most sixes in Tests matches until it was beaten by Adam Gilchrist. Will bring some very welcome balance to my side already dominated by bowlers.

62 Tests, 3320 runs @ 33, 218 wickets @ 29 (SR 53). All of that in a pretty poor all-round side. Pretty good looking bloke too, no doubt tore it up off the pitch as well*. Still plundering attacks in Canberra grade cricket, to boot.

Better fill my Pakistani spot. Next selection in the Gak Attack XI:

Javed Miandad
Javed-Miandad_Jumping.jpg
The best batsman Pakistan has produced. With an average of 52.57 and 23 100's and 43 50's to his name, Miandad amassed 8832 runs in 124 Tests. Was not the most traditional of batsman but he produced and won matches for Pakistan.

Should we just skip to Noobz0r?
