Agar has stopped taking wickets... when he was selected he was taking them for fun.

Given the choice of an all rounder than can take wickets or score runs... I prefer the former.

It is why I like having Marsh in the side -has contributed to a number of wins.
I like M.Marsh too. But given more spin friendly conditions, do you pick the spinning allrounder instead?

In more spin friendly conditions you pick a second spinner and have Marsh as the 3rd seamer, potentially.

Nope - pick 2 spinners if it is going to turn and drop a quick

Maxwell isn't a test spinner's arseh*le...

Go on then

Given our injury list - Boland would probably be in there

But a bloke 10+ in the pecking order is just a middling talent and the difference from 10-20 isn't that great

FWIW - I'd pick Mitch marsh ahead of him purely as a bowler

For number 6?

For the test squad as the back up top order player given all of the Marsh bros, Handscomb and Maxwell are middle order players

For Sri Lanka I'd go with this squad:

Batsmen: Burns, Warner, Khawaja, Smith, Voges, S Marsh, Handscomb
All-Rounders: Nevill, M Marsh, Maxwell
Bowlers: Starc, Bird, Pattinson, Hazlewood, Lyon, O'Keefe

Not a fan of O'Keefe, but beggars can't be choosers. He's comfortably the second best spinner in the country right now. However I'd still go with the 4 quicks/allrounders as I don't think either O'Keefe or Maxwell are test match standard.

Burns
Warner
Khawaja
Smith
Voges
Nevill (+)
M Marsh
Pattinson
Starc
Hazlewood
Lyon

Fair enough, good to see him get some form back. I'm not sure they'll have room for all of those though, someone will have to miss out. I think the real question mark will be that number 6 spot so I reckon they might rather a middle order bat.

I know there is still talk on the WA board of him opening and Burns pushing down the order, which just wont happen anytime soon. I wouldn't be against him getting in the squad though, he looks the goods.

Burns moving down the order will only happen when Voges retires

I would certainly be happy with him opening and Burns moving down the order, but that's unlikely when Burns is making runs. I just think it would be better for both. But I believe Bancroft batted middle order in his younger days, while keeping, so there's no reason why he couldn't come in down the order.

For that to happen Burns' form would have to drop off also, you know the old saying if it ain't broke don't fix it. The selectors obviously think Burns is capable otherwise they would have picked Bancroft to start with.

There is a lot of water to go under the bridge before Voges retires though so I definitely won't count it out. But I also think we have some very young talented middle order batsmen that will be ready to take his place. It's great to finally see some young talent coming through, seemed not long ago that we were really scraping the barrel.

Any reason why there's no talk about Joe Mennie? Having an awesome Shield season (leading wicket taker with 35 @ 21.11 average, 50.00 strike rate, 2.53 economy rate), and good career figures too (28.71 average, 59.01 strike rate, 2.92 economy rate). Is it the "doesn't bowl 140" thing again?

He was in effective (at best) for the last season or two

So were Scott Boland and Jackson Bird.
Bird has been struggling with injury, and I thought Boland's selection was an absolute joke

Not enough weapons. Good FC bowler, unlikely to be up to it internationally.

So? You still have to take players, and Boland's had a good Shield season. We are talking about who will realistically go, right?

I might too, and if you look at my post you'll see I have them both in reserve...
