I wonder where Tex sits in our greatest ever players.

He’s been top 10 for some time but I think he’s now potentially worked his way up as high as top five.

Obviously McLeod is number one. Most would say Roo at number two. Then we’re talking the likes of Modra, Hart, Jarman, Goodwin, Rehn. Betts and Edwards as well. Walker clearly fits right in with these names.

Where would you have him?

Somewhere in the 5-10 slots. Tex just doesn't had the decorated career that a Hart or Goodwin had.

Wherever you have Edwards, I'd have Tex one slot above.

Still doesn't get close.

Those two are heads and shoulders above Tex - even if he kicks 20 and the norm smith.

They are all 300+ gamers.

McLeod 340 games, 3 B&F, 2 norm smith, 5 time AA,
Roo - 312 games, 3 B&F, 1 Brownlow, 8 time all Australian.

Tex - 300 games, 0 B&F, 1 time all Australian. His resume (footy wise) is probably a bit behind Goody & Ben Hart's, but his impact on the Club has been bigger IMO which means he is a clear 3rd.

I think I did these rankings for top 10 Crows in 2023. Might have slightly changed.

My Top 10:

Tier 1 - Roo, Macca
Tier 2 - Walker
Tier 3 - Goody, Hart, Modra, Jarman
Tier 4 - Rehn, Betts, Edwards.
Nigel.Smart needs to be in there.
He did well in an era of one on one defending some of the great Full Forwards

You can love him more as a player but comparing records you couldn't have Tex ahead of most of those names. He sits around the tier 4. Rehn as a tier 3.

Dawson will join that list soon if he hasn't already. As with Tex there is too much recency to rank him accurately, we have to leave it few years.

excuse the drop in..
Just wanted to congratulate Tex on joining the #300 club..
Have appreciated and watched tex for years now and have always admired his resilience and heart.
Spoken to him a few times at my work over the years and he has always be friendly and funny when we have chatted about richmond.
All the best for the finals crows... aim for the flag and go get that flag !!!!

Nothing on Tex on agenda setters both nights.

Kane and Caro didn’t have it in them to even mention it.

Tex has pranked called Kane and texted him some fairly abusive texts over the years when drunk.

Kane deserved it but he is hardly going to congratulate him given the history

Poor from guys like Hodgy, Daisy and Reiwoldt

I wouldn’t expect anything less from Hodgy, Daisy and Nick. Hodgy’s been the biggest crow basher of late.

I think the only one that can be argued to be ahead of Tex is Goody. It could be argued that Hart is close.

Tex has Mods, Jarman, Rehn, easily covered. They have been elevated due to the nostalgia of 97,98 IMO. Those 3 combined for 360 games for the Crows compared to the Texans 300.

Talk about missing the mark. You think Dawson is possibly on this list already (after 90 games and zero finals wins) yet its too recent to rank Tex accurately.

The Greatest Player isn't based on games played, it's a plays a part but only a small part.

You are underselling Rehn, he was the dominant ruckman in the comp for a number of years and it wasn't just tapwork. Tex has never been the best forward. Probably equal with Curnow in 2023.

Dawson has two all Australians and two best and fairest. Probably three at seasons end and turned the on field group around. A good argument that he has been one of he best leaders the club has had. I think he will rate high.

As I said I think you need to differentiate between your favourite player.

Anyway it's gone way off track. Agree to disagree.

Disagree. It plays a significant part.

Rehn was All Australian (best 2 at his position) in 94,98. In 1994 there were 15 teams so he was the top 2 out of 15.

Compare that to Tex who was all Australian once. But this is in a 16-18 team league competing against 6 forward per team.

Rehn was good, but played on a side that included most of our other best 10 players of all time - ROO, Goodwin, Hart, Smart, Rehn, Jarman, Modra all played together.

Dawson came as we were starting our upswing. He won 2 B&F of teams that finished 11th and 15th. Would need the flag and a Brownlow this year to be considered top 15. Still has plenty of time though even though he is 29 next year.

Where do you have 3 time B&F winner and 2 time All Australian Rory Laird?

As I said I think you need to differentiate between your favourite player.

Not my favorite player, just IMO has done enough over the past 16 years to justify top 3 at our club.

How you could have Rehn above Walker is just crazy to me.

Rory Laird? Not in the top 20. Won two of his B&F in probably two of our three worst years.

Ricciuto, Goodwin and McLeod all won 3 B&F - Laird is not in the same league. He is our equivalent of Kane Cornes.

Thats a high bar to compare Rory against. Top 20 for sure.

3× Malcolm Blight Medal: 2018, 2021, 2022
2× All-Australian team: 2017, 2018
2× 22under22 team: 2015, 2016
2013 AFL Rising Star nominee

This is a shit argument

So because Malcolm Blight played in a 12 team comp his Brownlow and AAs make him less a player?

Come on Man!
