Tex rubbed out for a push

Surely the grading of impact should be tightened.

Low - player stays on takes the kick
Medium - player comes off
High - HIA test, pass
Severe - Concussion

But then that wouldn’t let the tribunal build whatever narrative they want on the day.

Given the club contested it, I wonder if Thilthorpe isn’t ready to go.

Pretty obvious that this would be the outcome. Walker did the thing, so we were on a hiding to nothing trying to argue that he didn't. As usual, the problem is that similar incidents occur all the time and get let go. It's like the Rankine ran too far argument - yes, if you check, he ran further than 15m... but that happens multiple times per match and is never called. Well, we've seen multiple similar incidents just this weekend, but Walker's is the only one cited. It makes it tough when you're not allowed to argue on precedent! The AFL really only cares about the appearance of impropriety, not the reality. As soon as it was highlighted with clear vision and a narrative was set by the commentators on the night, Walker was done.

Mind you, I really don't understand Culshaw's argument. "It's impossible looking at the point of impact for Dawson to have contacted O'Sullivan high." What???? We've all seen the footage mate, O'Sullivan's head goes directly into Dawson's midsection. The contact explicitly occurs high. Why would you try to argue that? That's a losing argument out of the gate. You might as well have tried to claim that Walker wasn't even there and O'Sullivan just slipped on a banana peel.

AFL works backwards from ‘the look’. It goes hand in hand with penalising outcome over action.

? Did the afl not make a song and dance about having independent doctors looking at vision live and replays for any significant head contact?
In the event of a head knock, the doctors look for any signs of concussion. But if the player seems okay, they don't force an HIA just because a head knock occurred.

Forget Bailey and Neale, our main off season target should be Carlton's lawyer. We always seem to argue the most easily countered stuff in appeals.

I have said this for years. He has sought to hit us harder than anyone else when he gets to rule. The club should have gone hard at the AFL on previous occasions to get rid of him from that position yet here we are having to swallow another inconsistent decision going against us but not other sides. I wish our club would get nasty with the AFL along the lines that Eddie Maguire would have for Collingwood. VFL C**ts
How Michael Christian still has a job at the AFL is beyond belief. He makes stuff up along the way, as do the rules committee - based on isolated incidents, then wonder why there's controversy. I have no problem with cracking down on these types of pushes, but there should have been a process (before the season started) to highlight these as reportable offences. They pick and choose who they're going to ping far too often.

Classic failing up. The MRO role should be rotated every couple of years. The argument for his tenure is to provide a consistent objective adjudication of his findings but he has been everything but.

It’s the only out. He pushed him into the contest, that’s a given, all comes down to the definition of ‘forceful’. If that’s upheld, hope they don’t upgrade to medium impact.
As far as I can see, we didn't even argue on this point! Unbelievable! Even John Ralph has a better idea than our lawyers.

The fact that "his tenure is to provide a consistent objective adjudication of his findings" just tells me they know their system is flawed. If they had a sound system for assessing transgressions and the penalties required then ANYONE should be able to do it. They know the current system is subjective.

Conspiracy theorist incoming. I feel like the AFL need to demonstrate their intent to improve player safety and only need to put on record examples of it. Enter the Adelaide Crows, the AFL's Washington Generals.

Edit: Also remember before Christian took up the MRO role he was part of the same Vic centric media machine for a long time and before that just a Collingwood life member.

There was a small shove. But there are a million bigger shoves in every game, including around marking contests. The key question is - is there a connection between the shove and the impact? Seems to have been completely overlooked in the whole process.

There is no point arguing about impact to head and severity unless Walker is responsible for that impact.

But as others have said - ‘the look’, a prime time game, commentators banging on about it…

I still don’t understand the head clash verdict
Where was it and Tex responsible
Sorry I’ve looked at a few vids and can’t see the correlation
Maybe they need to provide the evidence publicly what they are adjudicating
Clubs and players need to understand
Where is the consistency ?

Good work mate, never heard of Bandle, what's that?
Music guessing game based on instrument by instrument.

I've also just realised I have posted this in the wrong thread.

Consistently inconsistant!

How many “potential to cause injury” suspensions have their been in the league?

McAdam might have been the first one?

Did any of the other “pushes” get mentioned anywhere? If it’s not covered on Fireball or Junk-Time I probably will miss it 🤣 (and I’m yet to catch up on Mondays pods)

Time for a panel to determine suspensions.

AFC need to stare they have no confidence in Christian's ability to fairly determine suspensions on a consistent basis.

It's a disgrace that a player is hospitalised for a similar incident & there are no repercussions.

When you start treating the afl as popcorn entertainment and less as a legit competition, it becomes much easier to not be disenchanted.
Yup and it's the rebadged VFL run by Victorians for the entertainment of Victorians. The rest of us are here to ensure the TV money keeps flowing into their coffers.
