Scandal Tex Walker's impact in finals

No.

His 2018 contract comes under the salary cap, the remainder disappears. He'll get paid out an agreed amount for the remainder of his contract (i.e. it will be something that he & the club negotiate) but it won't be under the cap.
I would think that his 2018 contract will be counted but I also think that the rest will be counted too, it will just depend on the agreed settlement as to which yr/yrs it goes into in terms of TPP

Some perspective rather than fanboi hate mail.

Getting him for nothing will always remain a coup...one you would have been stoked about if your club had pulled it off. It still stacks up.

It is extremely rare for any fwd/ruck to be averaging what he was doing at Adelaide, hence their desperation to break all the rules to re-sign him. They got busted. We took advantage of it. Boo Hoo. If we could do it every season we would.
Alas its not often a club as stupid as Adelaide were comes along....and all we had to do is find an individual average of $5-7Kpa of future player payments right across the senior list spreadsheet to secure him. Sweet deal considering the long list of impending retirements at the time. A 1st rnd pick trade value for nothing, and only $100-150Kpa overs to snare him from Brisbane who were just assuming he'd go to them for under market worth. Who the hell wanted to go to Brisbane back then anyway ?...who would blame him. Anyone crying over a player doing whats best for their career and future needs to go play/watch amateur sports instead.

As a comparison, the yr before it was well known that Mitch Clark went to Dees on $600-650Kpa and knocked back far more to go to Freo who were cashed up and aggressive. Tippett's record was far better, and the $780K required just took a small tweak of the spreadsheet over ensuing seasons.

Go have a look at your own lists to find a comparison utility ruck/fwd.

Kurt Tippett...1.8 goals per game, 10 Hitouts
Drew Petrie... 1.3 goals per game, 4 Hitouts
Mitch Clark....1.1 goals per game, 9 Htouts
Len Thompson....0.90 goals per game, 17 Hitouts
Paul Salmon...1.7 goals per game, 12 Hitouts

Tippett year on year so far

* 2015 are true champion numbers, missing 2 games and having two terrific finals.
See if you can find a single bloke who has averaged 2 goals a game and >17 HO's in the same season. That sort of season value is rare as hens teeth.

You just dont like his face ;) the way his chest sticks out a bit:D, his hair:drunk: his teeth:D and the fact we got him for nothing out from under Brisbane's noses. You think he's arrogant, overpaid, and plays on fumes when he feels like it. Its not important you like him.
You think he drops a few too many overhead marks, but he's a better overhead mark than Franklin ever was.
You really cant put your finger on what it is you dont like...its just the whole package you hate ;). Its good u hate him.

In terms of a trading coup, you did the same bleating and crying when Franklin didnt go to a cellar dwelling club where he wouldnt be an issue for you.

Adelaide got what they deserved for trying to hold him when he wanted out. They're still crying their poor little eyes about it...awww, that bad bad man didnt want to stay in Adelaide. Bunch of bloody amateurs.
All a player can do is further their career and on the numbers he was producing the queue for him was v v long. Gosh, did he mention Brissy was home but ended up going to Sydney instead ?...ohh booo bloody hoo. Get over yourself.

Even if he was to retire sooner rather than later, the bloke has been good without being an absolute star. Pushed thru some nasty injuries to stay or get back on the field, and made a damn solid contribution. Perhaps he hasnt lived up to his potential, but he has still been a matchwinner at times. Thats a hellova lot better than most can brag. He helped secure finals berths and played many great games including some great as well as poor finals. Nothing unusual there.

You can have a ruckman, or a forward. We got the versatility of having both...on the cheap. No training wheels, no 2-5yrs getting up to speed, etc etc.

I don’t think you understand what a coup is. He fell into your lap due to the mismanagement of John Reid and Steven Trigg. The AFL then overreacted and penalised us way too much and he was able to go to you via the PSD for free. You didn’t orchestrate anything. It was pure luck. You actually tried to trade for him which either shows you didn’t know what was really going on or you tried to overpay for a player you were about to get for free. Blind luck.

I like the way you downplay it ;). I can see the cynicism, but after all the s**t WE cop about Tippett, allow me to rephrase your words just to keep it real ok.

" We had a monumental fkup in terms of the entire club, and not managing the books well enough to hold a bloke contemplating leaving whilst absolutely essential to the list. It cost us a likely 1st AND 2nd rnder from Brisbane or Sydney, plus two years of stripped draft picks, our soiled underpants, and we went from 2nd to 11th the next season without him "

:p

Lets face it, he was close to being your best player :p...with blokes like Dangerfield still rising up the ratings 6yrs ago.
2 of his first 3 yrs he kicked about 50.
In his last final for you he kicked 4, and helped get you damn close to a GF. He took 11 marks, kicked 4, and gave a chopout in the ruck.
You finished 11 th the next yr.
I might be going out on a limb but that probably wasnt a result of missing a cpl of draft picks that yr ;).

He'd kicked 170 odd goals in 4 years, supported in the ruck, and contributed more than Taylor Walker has pretty much done ever since ;) Walkers best ever season was when Tippett was there next to him.

So if Tippett is a hack, what the hell does that make Taylor Walker ? :D...a stay home KPF that has averaged maybe 40-45 goals a season ever since Tippett left. Tippett kicked about 35-55 a season whilst at least helping out in the ruck.

That is what his next contract was based upon...he very much earnt a big contract and had been a tad better than "decent". Dont u reckon ? ;)

We may have taken the risk paying overs on his contract to snatch him, but with an upfront cost of jack squat i think we did alright ;).

You should look up Walker’s stats. He does a hell of a lot more than kick 40-50 goals. Walker craps all over Tippett.

Both go missing when the heat's on. Walker's 2017 GF performance was as bad as Tippo's abysmal effort in 2016.

Imagine Jack having to play in that forward line for Adelaide that day :$

A handicapped Sydney could be forced to go one player short on their primary list in consecutive years because of the late retirement of Kurt Tippett.

The highly-paid Tippett had three years of his contract to run when he surprisingly retired last month, citing fitness concerns after an ankle reconstruction late last year.

The Swans will have to play one short this year and almost certainly again next year because of strict AFL salary cap rules.

Sydney could have limited Tippett’s retirement damage to this year alone but his financial settlement is understood to be way beyond their 2018 total player payments limit, meaning his exit figure will probably have to be extended into the club’s 2019 salary cap, which could lead to him becoming automatically retained on Sydney’s list.

The Swans will not publicly reveal Tippett’s negotiated payout — believed to be a confidential $1 million-plus settlement, but much less than his contract was worth — however it is understood he will not have to remain a listed player for a third straight year, in 2020.

Ignoring all the other big games and finals in his career champ. Research is your friend. He had a huge influence in our comeback win over Freo in the finals for instance. You’ve got no clue.
Commiserations on Adelaide and their abysmal performance on the biggest stage last year. They were truly spooked. Good news is that you'll eventually get over it. In the meantime, chin up and keep on punching champ!

Came in here to read about Tippett's retirement, and instead learn that apparently Taylor Walker isn't a big game player? Wow. The ludicracy of some people.
I think the word you're looking for is 'lunacy'. Btw, Walker's performance in last year's GF was the definition of a big game choke.

Gets shown up as being full of it so tries to make a witty retort. Well done champ, keep the dumb comments up.

Once again, a one game sample size. The entire Richmond team just spent the last decade choking time and time again earning the moniker ‘ninthmond’. How about that incredible choke job during the regular season when you managed to lose to Freo with only seconds left? I mean seeing as though we are using one game sample sizes.

One game my friend. One game. He wasn't even half as bad as some are making out.

Walker is an excellent big game performer. One swallow does not make a summer.
