Is a major problem on our roads. I'm sure we've all been guilty of it, or know someone that has been. I have been guilty of it and i'll be the first to admit that and have vowed to never do it again after realising how stupid I was.

Too many people believe they are invincible on the roads and think nothing will ever happen to them, thus the increasing negative attitude.

I constantly see people of all ages texting while driving while driving past them and I think it needs to stop. Unfortunately, I believe until someone close to them is involved in a collision they won't stop doing it. Perhaps young drivers need to be lectured on the dangers of this. I am not sure of the Legislation involving this but perhaps bigger penalties need to be applied to people who are guilty of it.

Discuss.

Saw a woman the other day texting while driving. Pulled up at the lights, looked in her car and saw two kids in the back. I give her a mouthful and she gives ME the finger. WTF.

How many million people text multiple times while driving every day, across the entire nation?
vs
How many people actually have a crash or even die from texting while driving?

How many incidents of texting while driving total
divided by
actual crashes/deaths from texting.

Was referring to when drivers first get their Provisional license. I have seen drivers of all ages do it too but it needs to be lectured into younger drivers early for it to have any effect imo.

Nothing wrong IMO texting at the traffic lights, but the you need to throw the book at those that have done it while driving.

Maybe if the laws allowed people to do it when the vehicle was stationary, this may help the cause.

After all we are trying to stop deaths on our road. Zero tolerance to using a mobile while driving be it at a traffic light is wrong.

I have that many bloody electronic gadgets and gizmos in my car its ridiculous I can use and distract myself with them but heaven forbid I touch the phone.

zero tolerance agreed.

It should be a privilege to be on the road.

Also ensure that they have a small 4 cylinder engine that goes 0 to 100 in about 2-3 days lol.

LOL I use it as an ice breaker at the traffic lights to chat to a chick if she is hot.

Yes it has worked once, where I got the number which led ........

However many fails too lol.

Done the same thing too, however a bit differently during a traffic jam, said something like 'Just a little dangerous isn't it". She pretty quickly put the phone down and nodded in agreement, I ended up thanking her, smiled and drove off. Should have gone the extra step though and asked for it...

Dunno about that. You could be sitting behind someone at the lights who is texting, you beep them to tell them off for texting, only to watch them drop their phone and speed off into oncoming traffic.

Look I do agree with you, the fact is they are going to use their phone regardless of the laws that are in place.

I think if there was an area during a journey where you could use it, it may make a difference.

Not saying your wrong, nor am I saying I am right. But, something from left field may need to be considered.

I think everyone would rather no use first, then if you had to use it at least at a traffic light only as a second option. Third is using it while driving in which we all agree with.

However here is the flipper argument to my thinking, I could see girls especially intentionally stopping at lights to text etc. You can never win.

Have done it in the past (usually on the freeway when I'm stuck and the traffic isnt moving) but will not anymore.

I keep my phone turned off and in my handbag when driving, so I won't even be tempted.

Forget texting, I have actually surfed the net.

I thank God, I didnt kill myself or anyone else. I used to do this regularly too.

I never text now and only use the handsfree system in my car.

.

This is probably just as bad as people who eat their breakfast in the car/ do make up, etc etc.

Just stupid, when I drive I focus 100% on driving. And sometimes adjusting the radio.

Is using a mobile still legal in the States? Was always flabbergasted while I was over there and it was basically a free for all, using your mobile when driving.

I dont disagree, I am just fortunate I didnt learn a lifes lesson out of it.

Actually saw a guy driving a tradie van on Alexander Parade talking on the phone on one hand while looking at another phone in his other hand - It looked like maybe he was reading an address or phone number out for the person on phone - he was slowing up to the lights and I was on the medium strip waiting to cross at the pedestrian lights...

I had a bit of a chuckle and wondered how a cop would react to seeing two phones in his two hands (and therefore none on the steering wheel)

The silly thing was there was a passenger next to him doing nothing!!

If I happen to be driving and my phone rings, I'll either pass it over to my passenger, or ignore it til I'm done driving

I probably wouldn't have said anything if she was on her own. But when I saw the kids in the car, I saw red. They rely on her to look after them. Driving whilst texting is not looking after them. If I've got my kids in the car, I am not going to do anything to put them in jeopardy.

What is that?
Were you standing on a steak?

Haha - touché -

I just googled it and I've been saying it wrong for a very long time it seems...

Median strip -

I always thought Canberra was Camberra.... for a while... that's probably worse than yours.

My apologies to our nation's capital.

Smart man. Agreed +1.

The funny thing is not in your case but for everyone's including mine, it does not f**** matter if there is no one else in the car, there are other drivers out there.

Even if you kill yourself there is a responsibility you also have to your family and friends.

More of a speech issue, because I can spell it correctly when writing/typing, but I always seem to ask my housemates for the the Vietmanese restaurant menu, rather than Vietnamese

It annoyed my ex-girlfriend to no end - I know that I say it wrong, but unless I explicitly think about it, I pretty much always say it wrong
