Thailand: Whats the facination?

Anyone been to Kanchanburi? Thinking paying the town a visit in November.

As the previous poster said you can stay a night or a couple of weeks. Plenty to do around the area. You can hire a river boat for a few days. The war museum in Kanch is well worth a visit (there are 2 of them - dont go the Thai one) as is Hellfire pass outside of Kanchanburi city.
If you have a car and the time, you can go approx 200ks past Kanchanaburi to Baan E-tong, which is a small village on the border very popular with Thai people holidaying (avoid going on any Thai holiday). The journey there goes through some national parks and mountainous scenic areas (very windy roads) and is well worth a visit

Pongphen guesthouse is a great place to stay in Kanchanaburi. Cheap, clean, friendly staff and best location in town. Lots of cheap tour agents around, a must for an Aussie is a trip to Hellfire Pass and the War Cemetary in town. Will bring tears to your eyes. 3 nights is long enough to stay there.
