Just a quick note of thanks to Leigh Colbert for bailing out while as captain.

The subsequent trade brought both Cameron Mooney and Corey Enright to Geelong who were both significant figures in the win on Saturday - Mooney being the leading goal kicker and Enright being the leading possession winner for the cats.

Thanks again.

Dont forget to thank Clint for going to the Dees as well as Micky M for enduring time at Carlton for the good of the Club. Chappy and Kel are well worth the swaps.

As good as it is in hindsight, I would'nt thank that scum for anything at all. I still hate him with a passion. One of the most treacherous moments in modern football.

There's a bit more to Colbert leaving Geelong than was ever really told. Wasn't he treated like sh*t by a few of the senior members of the team at the time because they resented him getting the captaincy over them. I think Mick Mansfeild was the main one. To Colbert's credit he never publically disclosed the reason for leaving but he has copped plenty from cats fans for his silence but he decided not to take pot shots on the way out and has maintained that pretty much.
Anyway who gives a toss about that it's ancient history, and the thread starter is right we did ok out of the deal.

This thread should be locked and deleted.

We just won our long awaited bloody premiership, and people are throwing out cheap shots to someone who left 8 years ago, and retired 2 years ago!

Build a bloody bridge. Be like the team, and revel in good sportsmanship.

This is not about who lost, but who won!

WE ARE GEELONG!

I really think you ease up on Colbert.
I was as angry as anyone at the time , but we have the Flag with players still going round and he is finished. He played over 100 games for us , and just like King was probably not a natural leader but then again one can't be a leader to those who don't want to be lead. We have won out of the situation , let it go.

Yeah, Mansfield and Barnes, and we got rid of both to try and convince him to stay, yet he still walked. He deserves jack. His 100 games should be deleted from the record books...

So Colbert got given a bit of grief by a couple of the players? It's a man's game and it's football people. It's not under 8 girls auskick where the coach should come in and tell the boys to behave. As captain he should've put these guys back in their place. Useless player. Instead he walks to 'win a flag'. I will always hate him, and it's not going to change just because we won a flag. Interestingly enough, he has current employment with the WCE. I wonder if he has been having words to their captain?

I wasn't that upset that Colby chose to leave us. What pissed me off was when he said he couldn't get a premiership with the Cats.

Shannon Byrnes - Premiership Player
Leigh Colbert - Who?

Even if he stayed, he would have retired before hand. Hindsight is some times a cruel tool.

I can't believe how you are shooting at him. You're worse than when we lost the greatest player to ever play the game.

No way. He's a traitor and I hate him.

*I wanted to type 'we', but I know not everyone has such a problem with his departure, so I'll leave it as 'I'.

I am with you Mack.
The thing that pissed me off the most was that he never thought the fans deserved an explanation for his departure.
Instead he decided to keep his reasons to himself.
I wouldn't have thought too many AFL skippers were that self-centered.
My assessment of him was that he was a gun footballer with extraordinary courage.
That courage did not continue in his off field role at GFC.
He jumped ship like a wounded rat, then had an injury riddled run playing with the Kangas and never quite delivered on his potential.
I don't believe in it myself, but I have quite a few friends that insist that this was his Karma.

Defending Premiers, Geelong, will this week travel to ....................
(I know this doesn't make sense but I just wanted to read that "Premiers" part.)
