With the de-listing of Barry from the Hawks I thought it appropriate to express my appreciation for his time at the Bombers. I had planned to say this after the GF but never got around to it. Not the greatest player by any means but during his time at Essendon, especially last year, he was great assett as far as providing much needed agression or "moungrel" to the side. He would always be first in line to defend a younger player and get in someones face. Roo fans will remember fondly the great battle we had in '99. Also remember back in '92 I think, when Collingwood used to worry us physically. Bazza was the only guy who took it up to them that game when they brawled before the first bounce. Damn shame he missed out on 2000, much like Ronny Andrews did in '84.

So thanks Bazza for the influence, I believe, you had on the Dons success this year.

Also well done to Paul Hamilton, another battler who has been an A1 coach with Glenorchy (Tas) and The Eagles (SA), now with the Roos as an assistant coach.
Not only a great football brain but a great person too. Have had the pleasure on a few occasions and was a really nice gent. So all the best Hammer even if it is with the Roos

Hear Hear. If Dickie Knee had to go then Barry Young and similar types are fair game as far as I'm concerned

I like to think that Richard Taylor was let go so that he'd have better opportunities to play.

But tell me this. Rocky displaced him, what happens if he gets injured ? if the other replcements got injured would we wish for him (Dickie) back ?

Wasn't overly worried about us giving Bazza the arse from Essendon. Yeah sure he had that mongrel streak in him, but he lacked skill and discipline and reckon it was a reason why we didn't go on with it in the prelim of 99'.

Getting rid of him paved the way for Jason "the bulldozer" Johnson who has controlled aggression and is twice the footballer than Young is or ever was.

I too thought that he might be an assett for the hawks but as someone mentioned, Rocky outplayed him for that tough nuggety onball position.

Pess, much as i admired Dickie, he really did seem to struggle at times this year. Rocky too is (imho) probably good for next year only. As to the back ups, i think they are looking to Johnno my man, Nicholls (my other man and a resurgent Crawford. Also look for Smith (i have faith) to come good and show what a class on baller can do.

ps good luck to Dickie at the Coasters anyhow.

So, just one more year for Rocky? I was so happy that he had a good year this year....I'm hoping that he can do a Libba and just keep on going on. I saw a few Hawks games this year and spent plenty of time just yelling, "Go Rocky! Go Rocky!"...we even managed to start a little Anthony Rock cheer squad at one of the Hawks vs Cats game this year!

Yep, well done Barry Young on a great, tough career.

I wish you didn't go to the Hawks though, because the only person that it adversely affected was you ! Everyone would have been better off if you had stayed at Essendon.

But well done anyway
