Well, technically he is correct. But really, nothing to see here. Move on.
Technically he’s not correct at all. The rule as quoted in the article:

(c) A Player who elects to retire or has lodged a ‘Player Request for Removal from a List’ form in the form prescribed in Schedule 1 as Form 40, will not be a Free Agent under Rule 17.1(b) in the relevant year.

A player who elects to retire OR has lodged the Form 40 will not be a Free Agent. You only need to do one or the other - not both.

Rioli has unquestionably elected to retire. He’s said it publicly, it’s on video and in print. There’s footage of him riding in the back of a ute parading retiring players around the MCG on GF day. There’s further media on him talking about how much he’s enjoying retirement.

Whether or not he signs the form now is irrelevant. By their rule he is not a Free Agent.

So Ross, single handedly cost saints the flag in 2009 and 2010.

Then cyril knocked over freo in grand final and prelim.

But Ross wanted leg speed?

Ross was concerned about Cyrils character yet......Steven Milne, Colin Sylvia, Harley Bennell...

There's so much gold here.
And they took Big Boy with the pick instead..... you couldn't make this stuff up!

The Howie Games podcast by Mark Howard is a cracker.
He interviewed Cyril for this weeks episode.

Finally got around to listening to this. Very good interview. Interesting to hear confirmation it was bloody Kennett who contributed to him leaving. Anyone heard any news of him pulling on the boots for St Mary's? He said in Oct he was aiming for after Xmas, so prob not going to happen.

He didn't say that at all. He confirmed there was some issue with JK but it had been discussed and sorted. Do you really think that drove Cyril to retire? You don't think that his Dad's health issues might have been a driving force? And the desire to return home?

All were contributing factors.

Anyone know if he’s plans on playing with St Mary’s? I’m not handling the fact that I can’t see him play footy!

Love ya Cyril!
